○ A tax on manufactured goods called a tariff was put in place to help boost the economy and prevent a national debt after the war.

The Star Spangled Banner
Francis Scott Key, a US lawyer was a prisoner on a British War ship during the bombing of Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor.
After 24 hours of bombing the smoke cleared and the US Flag was still flying over the fort.

The Star Spangled Banner
Key was overjoyed and wrote a poem describing the scene.
It became a popular song.
In 1931 it was titled “The Star Spangled Banner” and became the national anthem.
