Full disclosure – I have been a long time customer of the Bank of America. Actually I have six accounts. No money though! Anyway, that’s another column. I’m wondering if Bank of America deserves my little business.

Once I visited the Bank of America Branch on Martin Luther King Blvd. in Sunny South Dallas. Customers expressed dissatisfaction over the conditions and with good reason. The carpet was dirty, the furniture worn and the décor outdated. At the time former DISD Trustee Ron Price let management know of his displeasure. After calls to corporate, the branch received a makeover.

During a recent visit to the same branch, I drove up to the drive-thru and sat patiently. Then I realized I wasn’t going to receive service.

I drove around to the front of the bank and entered the premises. As always this branch has pleasant personnel. I asked about the closed drive-thru and was told a decision was made to close several across the metroplex. I told the manager I wanted to be able to pull up at a drive-thru and do business.

She listened intently as I talked about another branch, on Camp Wisdom in Duncanville. That branch needs a serious upgrade. The carpet is soiled and slimy in places, the furniture is worn and every time I enter the building, I am assaulted by the odor.

Even other customers have commented about the smell, which appears to be a combination of urine and puke.

Recently I had an appointment scheduled to discuss my accounts. When I arrived at the Camp Wisdom branch, the representative was not ready for me. I was asked to take a seat, but there was no way I was sitting on those chairs! I waited five minutes and departed after finding the smell unbearable.

Now my departure ended up costing me, but you’re late for my appointment and then I have to stand around and have my senses attacked? Do you think I received a call, a note or anything? Nope!

So, back to the closed drive-thru. I chose Bank of America over a decade ago because the representatives expressed a strong commitment to community and service while valuing diversity and being a good corporate citizen. I also liked locating branches as I traveled the country.

Additionally, I’ve met several of the branch managers and especially liked visiting the branches on Lancaster Road, Martin Luther King Blvd and Zang Blvd.

I was told to call customer service. NO, Bank of America, you call me – (469)867-6004!I expect the same quality of service when I enter any branch and I also expect to see the same quality

décor, furniture, etc. The Bank of America stamp should be on EVERY branch regardless of where it is located. It’s your brand!

I bet if the Bank of America executives flew into Dallas with their parents, they would not bring them to the Martin Luther King or Camp Wisdom – Duncanville branches.

And Bank of America is not the only business that seems to have an issue with providing the same attention to detail at EVERY location. I respect executive decisions to keep businesses profitable, however, it is imperative that every effort be made to ensure that company brands do not become tainted because of disparities.

It’s time out for providing substandard services and goods to certain communities. Find a way to spread the love or you may have to find time to examine dwindling profit margins.

Author Chanel Price was once ensnared by the mistress trap, but now she is teaching others how to avoid, break free or stay free of it. She is now on an all-out crusade to promote fidelity state wide with the launching of a fidelity pledge campaign.

She hopes to get 100,000 women in Texas to take the pledge and to initiate conversations about marital infidelity with the hopes of helping women who have engaged in it to heal and to discourage women who have not.

“People don’t understand, but this is a pandemic that has swept the world not excluding the church and this is destroying lives minute by minute.” she said.

Nationwide, the percentage of men who admit to committing infidelity in any of their relationship is 57%.

The percentage of men who say they would have an affair if they knew they would never get caught is 74%.

Ms. Price says these numbers prove that society has a big problem that needs to be addressed.

She is taking her campaign to the streets. Ms. Price sets up her table at events, churches, book stores or anywhere she can get an audience and start a conversation. Most of the time, she admits that women are a bit hesitant at first but later gladly sign her pledge canvas when they learn more about what she is doing.

“Sometime, someone will come up to me and whisper their story. I usually listen because oftentimes they needed to talk. This is not something you can tell a lot of people about. I encourage them to get my book because it offers healing and hope for women that have been in a relationship with a married man.”

Ms. Price’s book, The Mistress Trap, A Memoir of a Former Mistress, is a 113-page paperback that provides an inside look at infidelity from the seat of a mistress. The book offers practical and biblical principles on how to escape the trap. The book is filled with interesting personal stories about various women who have given in to the temptation of dating an unavailable man.

Ms. Price starts the book telling her own story that illustrates how an innocent conversation can turn into years of heartbreak and

disappointment. She points out that initially,

everything seemed fine. There was plenty of excitement, gifts and wonderful evenings together. But after a while, it ends in hurt, shame and disappointment. “Sin is only good for a season,” she said.

Ms. Price grew up in a stable Christian home where values and morals were taught daily. “My choices were not a result of improper upbringing or a lack of Christian teaching, or a lack of discipline.” she said. “I was very selfish. I wanted happiness at any

cost.” She now warns women that the thrill is not worth the cost. She also challenges women to avoid thinking like a mistress, who thinks she can please the man better than his wife can. This

is not correct. She said, “A man can enjoy

intercourse with any woman. I am not equal or more important than his wife. You don’t have the same rights or privileges as a wife."

Ms. Price’s book and lectures are filled with compassionate straight talk to mistresses or those toying with the idea of dating a married man.

She points out all the logical and biblical reasons that dating married men doesn’t work. If he cheats with you, he will cheat on you, she said, adding that it is also morally and spiritually deviating to indulge in these kinds of relationships. “You open the door to demonic spirits when you engage in affairs with married men.”

Washington, D.C. - When Sylvia Traymore watched acclaimed actress Kerry Washington impersonate several characters in a comedic sketch on a recent episode of Saturday Night Life (SNL), a deep sense of overwhelm overtook her.

As the first black female impressionist to emerge on the entertainment scene back in the late '70's and early 80's, she vividly recalls having high hopes of performing a similar scene over 30 years ago after she first met and was hired by the show's creator/ producer, Lorne Michaels.

SNL veteran Garrett Morris had been so impressed with Traymore when she hosted Muhummad Ali's roast at the Apollo Theater that he personally arranged the meeting with Michaels for her.

The year was 1979. As a result of that meeting,

Traymore was offered a position as an associate writer at Saturday Night Live.

She is one of only a very few African American women ever offered the position. With SNL currently under the media microscope for their lack of diversity per hiring women performers of color, Traymore was compelled to reflect on her SNL memories. Traymore takes us back down her SNL memory lane with the first entry of her new blog, "Saturdays with Sylvia."

One of the first solo artist to tour with and open for powerhouse Whitney Houston, Traymore's career in Hollywood is legendary, even if not well known. The illustrious Redd Foxx recognized her talent early on and signed her to her first management deal.

She has opened for some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, The Temptations and Cher and amazingly impersonates Wendy Williams, Diana Ross, Mo'Nique, Whoopi Goldberg, Nicki Manaj and First Lady Michelle Obama, to name just a few.

Traymore's recently released

memoirs, available on Amazon.com, "Almost There, Almost...The Many Faces of Sylvia Traymore Morrison" vividly recaptures her escapades in the entertainment industry.

She is slated to open her new one woman show, "Come See About Me...A Fan's Diana Ross Story," in her hometown, Washington, D.C., at the Naval Heritage Theater on November 21.

As excepted from her blog, Traymore reminiscenses, "True to his word, Garrett and NBC sent a limousine to pick me up at my apartment and take

me to the offices of NBC's Saturday Night Live. Garrett took me to Mr. Michae's office and the three of us sat there to discuss my future with Saturday Night Live.

The show was not yet the icon it is today, but was certainly on its way. I must admit I was a little nervous and excited at the same time.

Other than the pageant and European television, I had not done a major TV show or even had a chance to do "Sanford & Son." Mr. Michaels proceeded to tell me what my job would be like..."

The Mavericks are going back to the future this season. As they continue to try and rebuild from the rubbles of failed plans following their championship season, they are going to resemble some of the old Don Nelson Mavericks’ teams at the start of the alts.

Running and gunning and not a whole lot of defense! However, there will be a slight difference from those teams. While Nelson had no interest in defense, current Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle will continue to try and preach on it as a measure of playing time.

Good luck! Out of their top nine rotation players, only veteran Shawn Marion and newcomer Samuel Dalembert have any interests on that end of the court. That’s normally a recipe for disaster, which is why the Mavericks only will likely be slightly improved from last season.

That team never seriously challenged for a playoff spot and finished in 10th place in the Western Conference with a break-even record (41-41). That team had to get hot in the last month of the regular season just to get to the .500 level.

“This team should be better for a couple of reasons,’’ said former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. “They will have a healthy Dirk (Nowitzki) for a full season at the top of his game. And they also will have more consistent point-guard play from (Jose) Calderon.

“I also think Monta (Ellis) will help take a lot of the load off of Dirk to do all of the scoring. Monta is a proven scorer in this league, and he can create and get his own shot. The key thing is developing the chemistry between those two guys to learn to play off of each other. And I’m sure Rick will make that happen. If and when that happens, they will be able to score with anybody, which will put a lot of pressure on

the other teams to keep up.’’

Most of the so-called experts have the Mavericks pegged in a battle for the last playoff spot in the western conference. That’s mainly due to the fact that once again, six of their top nine rotation players are newcomers to this season’s roster.

So, other than defense, developing chemistry could be the other major issue with this team.

“We feel good right now about our chemistry at this point,” Carlisle said. “It takes time to develop. It’s not something that happens overnight. It’s about building a trust with the players and the

coaching

staff. That’s something that can’t be forced or rushed, you have to be patient.”

He continued, “It’s all about understanding your role and what is expected of you. That’s what chemistry is all about even if you’re a veteran team,

or a young, inexperienced team. We have a good, solid group of veterans who just want to fight for the same cause with the same goal in mind, which is to win a championship.

“We know what it takes and what lies ahead on this journey.

We’re hungry to get better and to keep

improving all the time. So far, they’ve done everything that we’ve asked of them. If that keeps up, we’ll see what the results will bring.’’

It’s not a good sign when your three best players are in their 30s (Nowitzki, Marion and Vince Carter). That normally is a sure sign of mediocrity making a long stay, and not just a visit around the franchise.

“This season is better than last year from the simple point that you don’t have so many guys on one-year contracts (the Mavericks had nine players on one-year deals last season),” said former Mavericks coach Gar Heard. “That leads to too much turmoil and uncertainty no matter how many veterans you have around because they are trying to secure a long-time deal.

“There has to be a happy medium, which the Mavericks may have found this time around. You have to have that mixture and flexibility. Because they still have some room for the next go round of free agents next summer to be a player.’’

The championship window appears to have closed on the Mavericks. The road to relevance is what they are embarking on now. And with Nowitzki in the last year of his contract, the future still could be sketchy at best.

Funding supports new primary care sites in 236 communities to serve more than 1.25 million additional patients

Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced $150 million in awards under the Affordable Care Act to support 236 new health center sites across the country. These investments will help care for approximately 1.25 million additional patients.

Community health centers work to improve access to comprehensive, culturally competent, quality primary health care services.

Community health centers play an especially important role in delivering health care services in communities with historically high uninsurance rates. Community health centers are also on the front line of helping uninsured residents enroll in new health insurance options available in the Health Insurance Marketplaces under the Affordable Care Act, through expanded access to Medicaid in many states, and new private health insurance options and tax credits.

“We are committed to providing more people across the country with the quality patient-centered care they deserve,” said Secretary Sebelius. “Health centers are key partners in the improving access to quality, affordable health care services for those who need it most. With new, affordable health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act,

community health centers are also key partners in helping uninsured residents sign up for health coverage – many of whom have been locked out of the health insurance market for years.”

As community-based and patient-directed organizations, health centers are well positioned to be responsive to the specific health care needs of their community.

Through the Affordable Care Act’s commitment to expanding access to high quality health care for all Americans, these grants will support the establishment of new full-time service delivery sites.

Health centers also link individuals to care through outreach and enrollment, assuring that individuals in their communities have the information and assistance they need to enroll in care through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Today, approximately 1,200 health centers operate more than 9,000 service delivery sites that provide care to over 21 million patients in every State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the

Pacific Basin. Since the beginning of 2009, health centers have added 4 million patients and more than 35,000 new full-time positions.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide additional Affordable Care Act resources to health centers to establish new sites,” said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Administrator Mary K. Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N.

NEW YORK-- From primetime television to cable news, African-American women consume more media than any other comparison groups, and today, there is more mass and targeted content featuring African-American women than ever before. Still, in a 2010 ESSENCE-commissioned study on the State of African American Women, it was revealed that 93 percent of media does only an 'okay' to 'poor' job of reflecting the audience the way they see themselves.

This year, ESSENCE commissioned New York-based research firm Added Value Cheskin to bring more attention and definition to these findings with the proprietary study,

After dedicating ten days to recording the images they viewed on the Internet, television and other media, participants in the independent survey revealed a range of responses, including feeling 'saddened' and 'disrespected'. During the first phase, the research firm conducted interviews with experts on the subject matter from academia, finance, and entertainment. Digital ethnographies were central to the second phase in which online communities were created based on life stage and gender. Through innovative visual diaries, participants shared their unrestricted reactions to wide-

ranging images of African-American women across all media types. In a moderated forum, community members also had the opportunity to respond to visual images curated by fellow members. The final phase was a quantitative study that included 900 Black women, ages 18-54.

Consistently, Black women see and acknowledge many inspiring images of celebrities, from Oprah to Beyonce. However, the study establishes there is a dearth of imagery that reflects relatable images of everyday Black women. The key findings were more pronounced among younger Black women who are at once more culturally open and more culturally affiliated. Additionally, a new lens

on beauty led a set of emerging typologies that the audience would like to see more often in media.

"The study offers a path forward for marketers and content companies to create more authentic images of real women," says ESSENCE President Michelle Ebanks. "By elevating the inspiring 'images of me', ESSENCE stands as that bridge to engage and connect with Black women. All women should be more visible and powerful in media."

Power is the Word of this day. It’s probably one of the more misunderstood words in the secular as well as the Christian world. There are so many things we associate power with i.e. money, influence, authority and even intimidation.

Supposedly, the more power you have the more you can affect the lives of others and for the sake of this column, I am asking you to look at how power might be used for your good and against the evil we all face on a daily basis. I think power is only understood when you use it or have it used against you.

When it comes to the power of prayer, or the power of faith, or the power of the Lord, people tend to make up meaning based upon their own experiences.

We say God is all powerful. There is nothing an omnipotent God cannot do. Every religion in the world gives all power to the God or Gods he or she worships. Christians believe God is all knowing, all powerful and is everywhere.

God doesn’t have the answer. He is the answer. It is a truth to us. We believe power comes from truth. For example, there is inherent power in the truth of who Jesus Christ really was; who He is and who He will always be. That truth brings peace of mind. That peace of mind brings about power.

I’m not talking about some ideological rhetorical power that one refers to in some romanticized sense. I’m talking about withstand the devil, stand up against evil, walk in the real world power.

I am reminded when I read the bible that those who believed in and then acted upon the belief in the God we serve, they were, and in many parts of the world today, are still being persecuted in such a way, that their very existence is called into question. Can you imagine the power that exists when the threat of death doesn’t deter one’s faith in God’s promise of eternal existence? That kind of power allows you in the face of death

to confess unwavering belief in God almighty. That kind of power is indeed all powerful. Peter’s fear had him deny Christ. Divine power realized allowed him to be crucified

upside down, so I’m told. Let me cut to the chase.

Have you ever wondered what gives some people the will to do right, act right, be right in the face of adversity, temptation and yes, the threat of death? What makes the righteous persevere? What is it about the righteous that strikes fear in the unrighteous? Why is the happily married man or woman the preferred target of the sinful suitor? I just believe power exercised is power realized. It is realized in the name of truth, in the name of faith and in the name of love. History reminds us that real power always becomes a threat and if possible, must be destroyed.

Is anybody trying to kill your spirit? Is your righteousness under attack? If not, then maybe you ain’t got no power. If not, maybe you are not yet at peace with God. If you were, then everyone around you would know it and you would automatically be a magnet for the righteous and a target for temptation. The internal power of faith resonates from you. It is a power you exercise, one that you realize because with it, nothing can deter you from the truth. “His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3. We have come by our power honestly. It is real and given to us to be used in His name. I urge everyone who feels powerless due to situations and circumstances to read the rest of this chapter. By doing so and exercising an understanding of this gift through power, we secure all of God’s promises. If you don’t believe me, surely you believe God.

My name is Alma. I’ll be writing a weekly advice

column. The name of my column -- "Ask Alma."

So what makes me qualified to dispense advice?

Well, I’ll tell you a bit about myself and let you decide.

I like good food, yard sales and fancy earrings. Never met a piece of cake I didn’t like. But after topping 300 pounds, I found a healthier way to eat. Without surgery or gimmicky diets, I lost more than 100 pounds. Yaay, me!

I have worked since I was 18. That’s when my Mama said, “Okay, girl, go do your thing.” That was her way of letting me know it was time to strike out on my own.

I quit college, got married and eight years later had a baby.

That husband left me and his toddler son for a beautiful international

flight attendant. I initially thought we had been robbed and called the police. The stereo was missing and, as I later realized, so were all of the clothes on my husbands side of the closet. I cried for 30 days.

But I got off my knees and made plans for my son and me.

I lost my sister to cancer and married again. This one has lasted 16 years. Between my two marriages, trust me, I’ve had almost every life experience one could imagine.

And I’m still here, living my truth. We all know that the truth ain’t always neat or pretty.

If you have a problem with your Boo, your boss or your relatives, let me help you. Perhaps your neighbor is working your last nerve.

Let’s talk about it. It helps sometimes to have a different perspective on things. I won’t print your name or your email address. I’ll print only the question you ask.

So look for me every Friday right here, and tell a friend.Our previous advice columnist, Gwen Baines, stopped writing for health reasons. Beginning with our next package of stories on Monday, Alma Gill will write an advice column titled, “Ask Alma.” She has a strong following on Facebook and Twitter and that social component should provide a broader array of questions.

Dallas Police surveys residents for feedback on communications

The Dallas Police Department wants to learn more about how individuals prefer to communicate with the department and is releasing a survey this week in the hopes of finding out. Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown has made social media utilization a priority for the department. He said the goal of the survey is to learn residents’ expectations and preferences in order to improve communications with the police. “It’s important that we hear directly from people who live and work in all corners of the city,” Chief Brown said. “We plan to go to great lengths to be sure we have the entire city represented,” said Chief Brown “because only then can we make solid decisions for going forward.” Chief Brown added that the Dallas PD will use the results of the survey to help design the future communications strategy of the department. The survey is approximately 20 questions long and asked questions about how residents currently share information with Dallas Police as well as how they would prefer to share information with Dallas Police. It also asks what social media platforms citizens use. “Our focus on social media is out of recognition that this is how people communicate today,” said Shawn Williams, Manager of Media Relations for Dallas Police. “We want to make sure people throughout the city get the information they want, the way they want.” The City has hired LAwS Communications, a Massachusetts-based firm to conduct the survey as part of a larger project to move the police department forward with social media and other communication strategies. The Dallas Police Department expects to roll out its new communication strategy by the first part of 2014. Studies by theUniversity of Texas atDallas Institute of UrbanPolicy, United Way andTexas A&M are takingplace now to assess thequality of life in the SouthDallas community beforebillion dollar projectsinvolving the new DARTLight Rail and the Trinity

Toll Road are brought tothe area. Some construc-tion has begun with thedemolition of homes tofollow later this year.At a meeting held by the

three institutions, a focusgroup of sorts dished ideasand findings on the surveysthat have told the story of theresidents of South Dallas.“We are measuring con-

ditions that may vary fromstreet to street,” said Dr.

Timothy Bray, director ofthe Institute of UrbanPolicy Research. He helps
