2017 Pro-Life Petition Drive Oregon Life United is sponsoring The Stop Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. A successful signature campaign would put this issue on the 2018 Oregon State ballot. Our effort at St. Vincent’s will entail gathering signatures before and after Church service, for at least two weekends. To sign this petition we must be registered to vote in the State of Oregon.

No Golden Years in September, no Mass, no luncheon, no adoration. We hope to pick up and be back on schedule on Tuesday, October 10th. Golden Years is the second Tuesday of the month.

Pastoral Council Meeting on Thursday, September 14 at 7 pm in Room C. On agenda is Parish Feast Day activities, commission reports, parish and school Reports; scheduling for the sacraments (Baptisms, confessions, First Communions, weddings, and Confirmation. Parishioners are welcome to attend.

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time / XXIII Domingo Ordinario September 10 / 10 de septiembre de 2017 - Matthew / Mateo 18:15-20

“Go and tell your brother his fault between you and him alone.” Very few of us enjoy being morality cops, telling our family and friends what they’re doing wrong and how they need to change. For one thing, most of us feel we’re in no position to judge others—which is absolutely true. For another, we dread embarrassing people we care about by telling them something they will not be glad to hear. Most spouses don’t even alert each other when they have a bit of parsley in their teeth, much less when their faults are showing. To be sure, the correction talk must be handled delicately—and alone, as Jesus insists. We don’t come from a superior position but from love, which makes a big difference in how we come across. We only need to say a truth plainly and briefly. Then we leave room—for listening, or for silent reflection. When I’ve been on the receiving end of the correction talk, I’ve never said, “thanks, what a help this has been!” But after sitting with the truth for a while, I find a place for gratitude in the long run. When has someone told you a hard truth about yourself? How long did it take to transform you?

Muy pocos de nosotros sabemos disfrutar siendo policías de la moralidad, diciéndole a nuestra familia y amigos lo que están haciendo mal y cómo necesitan cambiar. Por un lado, la mayoría de nosotros sentimos que no estamos en actitud de juzgar a los demás, lo cual es absolutamente cierto, pero por otro parte, tememos avergonzar a las personas que no estarán contentos escuchar. La mayoría de los cónyuges ni siquiera se alertan unos a otros cuando tienen un poco de perejil entre los dientes, y menos lo hacen cuando están mostrando sus fallas.

Para estar seguro, la charla sobre la corrección debe ser manejada con mucha delicadeza y a solas, como insiste Jesús. No venimos de una posición superior, sino de amor, lo que hace una gran diferencia en cómo nos vemos. Sólo necesitamos decir la verdad clara y breve. Entonces dejamos espacio para escuchar o para la reflexión silenciosa. Cuando he estado como escucha de la charla de la corrección, nunca he dicho, "¡gracias, qué ayuda ha sido esto!" Pero después de haber dicho la verdad por un tiempo, encuentro un lugar de gratitud espiritual a largo plazo.

Classes begin this MONDAY, September 11 for returning students and TUESDAY, September 12 for first year students. All children MUST be registered in order to attend classes. We will meet in the school gym. Doors open at 6:50 pm. Please park at the Church and walk your children across the street to the school. There will be a MANDATORY parent meeting both nights. Spanish speaking parents will meet in the Church, English speaking parents will meet in the gym following the dismissal of the children. We need volunteers to assist the children crossing the street on class nights. If you would like to help please see Sheila or Yadira. Thank you. We are looking forward to another exciting and faith filled year.

MUSIC NOTES: With Summer coming to an end, it’s time for our Music Ministry to

resume rehearsals. You may have thought of singing with one of our groups, this would be a good time to give it a try.

The Ensemble, sings at the 8:15 am Mass, and rehearses every Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm, starting September 20.

The Parish Choir sings at 10:15 am Mass and rehearses each Wednesday from 7 – 8:45 pm. Weekly rehearsals started September 6, but come anyway! All rehearsals are in the Church.

Our Music Ministry always welcome new singers and instrumentalists. If you’re unable to make the first rehearsal, just let us know when to expect you. Or, just show up at the next rehearsal, you will be most welcome, there will always be a space for you. Do you have uniform clothing that your child has out grown? Would you like to help but don’t have any gently used uniforms? Feel free to donate new clothing as well. We allow white polo shirts, and navy blue or kaki colored pants or skirts.

Uniform clothing can become expensive with a growing child, so we do what we can to help lessen the cost for our families. Please bring donations to the school office. Thank you.

Youth Ministry Registration THIS weekend! We will be in the gathering area after all the Masses September 9 & 10. Come pick up information for the year & sign up for your registration interview. This includes First Eucharist and Confirmation preparation for high school students.

Sacramental Prep for High School students. We expect those planning to receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist and the Sacrament of Confirmation to be actively involved in their Parish community in addition to regular Mass attendance, for at least one year prior to receiving the Sacrament. Active involvement includes, but is not limited to weekly attendance of one of the following:

High School Youth Nights

Eight grade Religious Education classes

Liturgical Ministry (Altar Server, choir, lector, etc.)

Youth Leadership Meeting THIS Wednesday, September 13 from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Youth Leadership Training next weekend ~ Sunday, September 17 at St. V’s. Please make sure to turn in your permission form or bring it with you.

Youth Ministry Kickoff! September 20th ~ 7 pm to 8:30 pm. We will meet in Reedy Hall to talk about what’s happening this year; bring your entire family to help kickoff our year, refreshments will be served!
