Happy National Vocation Awareness week! What, you’re not celebrating? You should be, since we all have a vocation, a calling only you or I can answer. Being aware of why we’re on this planet lends purpose to every hour and decision. As Socrates said, the unexamined life is not worth living. If we’re vocationally aware, our lives will be abundantly worthwhile!
Contrast vocation awareness with the simple power grab. That’s where the scribes and Pharisees are at in first century Jerusalem. The chair of Moses isn’t an actual seat—more like an office held, as the chair of Peter is kept warm by the current Pope. The teaching authority of Moses once belonged to Israel's priests and Sadducees got fat on the Roman payroll, scribes and Pharisees rose in the esteem of the common people. Jesus warns that those who insist on the title Rabbi (literally, “my great one”) are probably not the best religion teachers. Only God can be great.
The saints became great souls of precisely by not seeking greatness. Which saints best inform your personal vocation awareness?

Donna Usselman, 83, died on October 24th. Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Vincent’s on November 3. Burial at Belcrest. Crown Memorial in charge. Rosary was private. Children are Catherine Ferris and Michael (dec.), husband Delbert died in 2006.
Ernie Zielinski, 89, died on October 29th. Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Vincent’s on November 2. Burial at City View. Wife is Lola, three children. Howell-Edwards in charge.
Eleanor Prather died on October 29th. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Vincent’s on November 6 at 11 am. Burial at Willamette National. Daughter is Ann Birch. Crown Memorial in charge.
Albaro Cortez, 22, died October 29th in an automobile accident. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Vincent’s on November 7 at 11:30 am, rosary at 11 am. Burial at Claggett Cemetery. Keizer Chapel is in charge.
May these families be consoled in their mourning. May our prayers bring strength and peace. May the families remain blessed in the Lord, the Lord grant the joy of salvation among God’s people.

The essence of stewardship – everything we have and everything we are, is a gift from God. We are not “owners” of anything; we are merely “stewards” of the gifts that God has given us, especially our very own lives. Pray to God daily and ask Him how He wants you to use the gifts He has given.
We are starting a program of stewardship in the Religious Education Department. Each student will receive color-coded envelopes for them to place money or a prayer of thanksgiving and gratitude for what God has given or done for them that week.
At Mass, there will be a special basket on the Altar and the children are invited to come up to place their envelopes during the Collection of the Gifts. The children will need to be in the main part of the church during Mass. If your family attends Mass at another church, the envelope(s) MUST be signed and dated by a Priest, director, Sister or staff member after the Mass and then brought to the Religious Education Department office the next class night. We thank you in advance for your participation. First Reconciliation Book and Packet — There are 30 families who have NOT picked up the First Reconciliation Book and Packet. Please see Sheila as soon as possible!

La esencia de Ser Administradores – todo lo que tenemos y todo lo que somos es un regalo de Dios. No somos "dueños" de nada, simplemente somos "administradores" de los dones que Dios nos ha dado, especialmente nuestras propias vidas. Reza a Dios todos los días y pregúntale cómo quiere que uses los dones que Él te ha dado.
Estamos comenzando un programa de ser buenos administradores en el Departamento de Educación Religiosa. A cada niño se le darán sobres con un código de colores para que coloque dinero o una oración de acción de gracias y gratitud por lo que Dios ha dado o hecho por ellos esa semana.
En Misa habrá una canasta especial enfrente del Altar y los niños se lo invitara a colocar sus sobres durante la Colecta. Los niños necesitarán estar en la parte principal de la iglesia durante la misa. Si su familia asiste a misa en otra iglesia, el sobre debe estar firmado y fechado por un sacerdote, director, hermana o miembro del personal después de la Misa y luego debe ser llevado a la oficina del Departamento de Educación Religiosa la próxima noche de clase.

All money earned is dedicated to the Parish budget.

Hope Scholarship The Salem Catholic School Foundation has matched donations from committed community members to start the Hope Scholarship for St. Vincent de Paul School. The scholarship is renewable every year and will support a student through their time at St. Vincent de Paul School. Please contact the school for more information. Christmas Bazaar is scheduled for the first weekend of December, along with the Scholastic Bookfair. Please plan on stopping by the school gym December 2 & 3, between 9 am and 3 pm. In our Catholic tradition, November is the month to offer prayers and light candles for those who have died. We believe in the communion of saints, the communion of the living and the dead. These stand as a sign of mystery. We remember the dead in the promise of life and the holiness of God to which we are called. These have handed on the Faith to us. Blessed by God in His angels and in His saints.
This weekend, November 4 & 5 at all the Masses, we will light candles for parishioners who have died within the past year. This takes place at the time of the Prayers of the Faithful. A scroll with the names is hanging in the Gathering Area. We invite you to bring photos of your deceased loved ones to place on the Remembrance Table. There is also a Remembrance Book to write the names of those who have died.
All Souls Envelopes are available in the Gathering Area of the church. Envelopes may be placed into the collection basket.
En nuestra tradición católica, noviembre es el mes para ofrecer oraciones y encender velas para los que han muerto. Creemos en la comunión de los santos, la comunión de los vivos y los muertos.
