1. Green Booklet and the Green Doctor Following a briefing and meeting with the Green Doctor, we will design & supply her with booklets that show, in a very graphical format, how the residents and their children can make sustainable adjustments to their lifestyles. The booklets will be filled in by the children workbook-style, and will include engaging activities and games, and a space to write inspirational/aspirational messages for the future. The booklet will be highly visual in nature, in order that it can be used in both the UK and France. It could also be used for similar future events, both at home and abroad, and could be given to schools.

1. Green Booklet and the Green DoctorFollowing a briefing and meeting with the Green Doctor, we will design & supply her with booklets that show, in a very graphical format, how the residents and their children can make sustainable adjustments to their lifestyles.

2. WorkshopWe will prepare a number of ‘housing kits’ - simple flat pack houses that each participant can construct with ease. Once assembled, a small lamp fitting can be installed into each house so that it can be illuminated from the inside.

The house models will have window openings so that graphical tokens symbolising green technologies and lifestyles changes can be chosen by the participants and slotted into the model. These symbols will be etched onto the tokens so that they glow when the lamp is switched on.

3. RetrofittingWe will explain during the session that the key to successful green living is not only installing new sustainable technologies, but also adopting a sustainable lifestyle. We will allow the participants at this point to swap their tokens around so that their ‘houses’ have a harmonious mix of lifestyle and technological considerations.

The resulting houses will then be displayed in the community centre, hung from a section of the tree canopy that will be used in the final exhibition.

4. ExhibitionThe participants’ house lamps will be displayed publically at a number of galleries; bringing the positive work of the young energy pioneers, IFORE and Amicus Horizon to a wider audience.

The centre piece of the exhibition will be a suspended tree-like canopy from which the illuminated houses will hang. The canopy will be modular in design so that it can be easily transported and scaled up/down to fit each gallery space. Finally, images and textures can be projected upon the canopy to bring it to life.

5. PresentationDuring the summer a public event will be held within the community to celebrate the accomplishments of the participants. The house lamps will be given back to their respective owners (having been on display) so that they can take them home as a reminder of the workshop and to ‘think green’.

Concurrently a film documenting the workshop and the final exhibition will be projected so that the community can see the good work that has taken place.

6. Community PicnicThe event will culminate in a community meal in which attendees will be invited to bring a plate of food to share at a final buffet. As the evening draws in, the table and picnic blankets will be lit by some of the remaining house lamps.

An event of this nature could also be held in Outreau, with the possibility of running in conjunction with the Rushenden evening. A live link could take place to cement the relationship between communities and celebrate the overall success of the project.
