Career History

TravellingSeptember 2014 – April 2015

My wife and I had the opportunity to go travelling around the world which has always been a life’s ambition. We started in the USA and continued onto Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and Dubai.

Getting the chance to meet so many different people and embrace their cultures was something I’m truly thankful for and I hope to be able to bring these experiences with me wherever I go.

Data Protect UKOperations Manager (formally sales executive)September 2003 – September 2014

Data Protect UK is a leader in offsite data storage around the UK with over 350 clients.

DPUK began in 2003 and from its inception, working closely with its founding director I helped to build a multi-million pound company.

Since being with the company from its beginning I have had a hand in its growth at every level from sales to driving, account management to overall operations management. My initial role when starting the company was sales and expanding growth. It was imperative that not only did I meet sales targets but exceed them in order for DPUK to survive.

In year 1, having no experience of the business I was now helping to build, I met my sales target of £30k.

In year 2, I exceed my £30k sales target by 400%, In year 3, I exceeded my £30k sales target by 350%. In year 4 I exceeded my £30k sales target by 150%.

The eventual results of not only my sales figures but that of the directors also was the need to identify, kit out and fill a second building.

In 2005 I was presented an opportunity which would see DPUK grow its client base outside of London. It required an immense amount of forward thinking, problem solving and business acumen.

The end result of this project was DPUK securing its biggest client to date and as of 2015 having 35 clients outside of London and opening the door to endless opportunities.

As the years went on I continued meeting sales targets even though my role was changing from building the company to maintaining its stature as one of the biggest tape storage companies in the UK. This was achieved by building a strong relationship with each of our clients, sometimes having to go above and beyond was what expected to achieve the results.

As Operations Manager, my role evolved, working day to day with the Managing Director to ensure the smooth running of the business; deputising for him, solely running the business in his absence.

What I enjoyed the most from my time at DPUK was the fact that every day was different; from the minute I walk through the door I could be greeted with a number of different scenarios meaning multi-tasking was imperative.

My duties included;

Sales and Account Management

Generating and following up new business leads; I was responsible for bringing in 50% of DPUK’s highest earning contracts, including large corporate clients across a variety of sectors such as banking, media, legal and professional services.

Managing the 100+ of the 350 clients I brought into DPUK. Successfully implemented an outsourcing agreement with other suppliers in order to expand

DPUK’s offering outside of London, resulting in securing the company’s biggest contract. Responding to tender requests and preparation of quotes and contracts. Attending meetings to negotiate the step by step instructions of starting an account with

DPUK. Liaising with rival businesses to ensure a smooth transition period when contracts were

successfully won. Gaining business through the expansion of our clients businesses or from IT staff moving

onto different companies. Attending conferences / events and identifying potential business leads. Identifying potential clients through warm and cold leads. Annual re-negotiation of client contracts. Providing clients with up to date stock inventories. Dealing with day to day account queries. Building and maintaining ongoing good relationships with clients.

Operations

Overseeing day to day operations and managing office and library staff to ensure smooth running of the business.

Managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts, including DHL contract (outsourced work) and handling all office supplier contracts.

Arranging and overseeing client audits, dealing with the appointed external auditors to ensure compliance.

Liaising with the federation against copy write theft (FACT) and managing the annual audit, to ensure FACT accreditation.

Ensure any day to day issues are dealt with quickly and professionally. Inventory management; labelling client tapes correctly and keeping accurate and up to date

records. Handling client complaints and seeing the issue through to a satisfactory conclusion.
