1. Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal information, local attractions, personal habits and practices, local personalities).

2. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

3. Describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

The course is for those who have completed Marugoto Elementary 2 A2 Modules 1 & 2, or those who have an equivalent background in Nihongo, and are interested in further developing their Japanese language proficiency and understanding of the Japanese culture. Communicative Language Activity (Katsudoo) and Communicative Language Competence (Rikai) books are provided. This is the last module in a series of three for the A2-2 level. (This level is almost the same level with Minna no Nihongo II.)

The Japan Foundation has been developing course books to embody the JF Standard for Japanese‐Language Education and to use them for Japa‐nese language courses in JF overseas centers. ‘MARUGOTO: Japanese language and Culture A1’, the first book of the series, was published in May 2011. Aiming at Japanese‐language for mutual under‐standing, ‘Marugoto’ is designed for learning not only the Japanese language but Japanese culture as well. Grammar and writing of Japanese charac‐ters will not be the main focus of the course.
