Science and Geography

We will be looking at things that are classified as never living, was once living and was alive and exploring how we know. Mrs Bradshaw will be leading this. Later in the term, we will be investigating animals that live in different habitats and how they have adapted to live in those conditions. Geography will be closely linked to our Science work on habitats around the globe and our impact on them.

History We have been discussing Famous People and why they are famous. We will be looking beyond pop stars and have touched on Hans Christian Anderson and Tchaikovsky. We are looking for pioneers whose work and efforts made a difference to our lives too.

Computer Science Art and DT

In Maths we will continue to work on 2,3,5 and 10 times tables and develop skills in +, - , x and division and problem solving and reasoning skills. We will also be looking at different measures including money and time.

This term we will be using Code.org to develop computer science skills such repeat blocks or loops, as well as learning about how we use Information Technology in our daily lives. A big element of this will be about On Line Safety.

We will continue to work on finishing our hand puppets which we have designed. We will also look at the work of famous artists including Fahrelnissa Zeid.

Music PE

We are lucky to have Mrs Freestone to work with us this term focussing on tempo, rhythm and composition. Mrs Ling will continue to work with Year 2 combining French and Music. In French - birthdays and animal sounds, and in Music listening to the BBC 10 pieces developing appreciation, and responding to popular classical pieces.

We will continue to work in Gymnastics using the large apparatus. We will be taking part in the whole school skipping challenge. The children will be working on how many skips they can do in a minute. We are now building up our running skills to take part in the whole school Cross Country competition at the end of term. Tennis coaching is back after half term!

Mrs Moore’s Message Board Firstly, thank you so much for the generous, thoughtful gifts and kind words at the end of last term.

Please remember to hear your child read at least 3 times a week.

PE kits for indoor and outdoor PE please. We have a busy term! Mathletics really does help to develop Maths skills. Please spend some time doing this at home as well as practising tables. I would like the children to do some research on a famous person of their choice and produce a small document to present to the class. Card and paper is available!

Our trip is on Friday 28th February to Colchester Zoo to link with our work in Science and Geography. Further details to follow.

Library books are changed on a Friday.
