The 2016 election came and is still a very interesting debate. An election is a formal and organized process of electing or being elected, especially of mem-bers of a political body. Many people have different views about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. They were very sophisticated candidates as Presi-dent for the United States of America. There are many different issues that the candidates hope to resolve, and also improve over the years. Hillary Clinton was the Democratic candidate. President-elect Trump was the Republican candidate. Some problems both wanted to improve included; our economy, jobs, immigration, and healthcare. In the debates, they had ad-dressed these issues . The candidates both had different opinions on how to handle them. Everyone in America wanted one or the other candidate. America is still very anxious from the outcome of this election coming so soon. In summary, both candidates have good ideas but only one could win. As we know, at Huber Street School the fourth grade mock election claimed that Clinton outvoted Trump. As the fourth graders said, Clinton got 60% more votes in the school than Trump. But that didn’t mean that America will thought the same. The voting took place on November 8th 2016. President-elect Trump won. Time will tell if the concerns and issues spo-ken about will be resolved.

Dr. Garzon joined the Secaucus School District as a Su-pervisor for the Secaucus Elementary Schools. She en-joys being at Huber Street School and loves it here. She also likes meeting with the teachers, but finds it chal-lenging for her to switch between both schools.

Dr. Garzon was a teacher in Jersey City before she came to this school district. At her last job, she was al-so working with students and teachers. She taught all subjects and she was also a curriculum coach. She misses being with those students, however, she loves it here because she is able to work with new teachers and various grades. Dr. Garzon feels very welcome at our school.

Kindergarten Goes Pumpkin Picking

By: Isabella Badillo and Mili Bakshi

The kindergarteners went pumpkin picking at Wightman’s Farm, on October 7, 2016. Most students had a parent or chaperone accompany them. Once they arrived the students went on a hayride, picked their own pumpkins, and went through a maze. They also took pictures, ate fresh donuts and drank delicious apple ci-der. After talking with the Kindergarten classes, their favorite activity was the hayride. The students found all the activities very enjoyable, and the kindergarteners had a great time.

Cystic Fibrosis By Mili Bakshi &

Isabella Badillo Cystic Fibrosis is a disease of the lungs. People born with

this disease usually don’t live past the age of thirty-two. On Oc-

tober 14, 2016, there was a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis that

Mrs. Leon attended. She was very close to the person who start-

ed the foundation. His name was Nicholas Costantino and sad-

ly he passed away two months ago from Cystic Fibrosis. He

went to the Secaucus High School and was well known and

loved in our community.

There was a gala at the W Hotel in Hoboken. The gala’s

goal was to raise $50,000 for this foundation. There were items

auctioned off to raise money. On October 12, Huber students

were allowed to wear purple, the color of Cystic Fibrosis, if

they donated a dollar, For more information go to EvHoboken-

Cares.com.

Our Week of

Respect By Hailey De Guzman & Edily Javier

The Week of Respect was celebrated from October 3rd to Octo-

ber 7th. The Week of Respect was for people to learn how to be re-

spectful. Students were allowed to wear many different types of cloth-

ing throughout the week. On Monday, students got to wear crazy

socks. On Tuesday, students got to wear a sports shirt. On Wednesday,

they were able to dress up as adults to show what they want to be in

the future. On Thursday, students wore school spirit shirts. On Friday,

they wore blue and/or yellow shirts. On October 7, the fifth grade clas-

ses joined together and played a game called “No Bullying Basket-

ball”. There was also a magic show for all the students. It taught kids

about being respectful in a fun way. Even though the Week of Respect

was only for five days, it was to reinforce the idea that we need to be

respectful everyday of our lives.

Restaurant Night in Secaucus By Angelina Bedwany

The Town of Secaucus hosted an event called “Secaucus Restau-rant Night” on Thursday, Sep-tember 22, 2016. The event took place at the Se-caucus Ice Rink, which is located next to Buchmul-ler Park. The people from the town had to pay $5 for each sample of a restaurant’s signature dish. This was a great deal. Some restaurants included: Bonefish, Natoli’s, The Plank Road, Lorenzo’s and La Reggia, just to name a few.

The History Behind Halloween

By Mykailla Harper When we think of Halloween, we imagine dressing up in cos-tumes and getting candy. However, that wasn’t originally what Hal-loween was all about. Halloween is believed to stem from a Celtic festival, Samhain, where there would be bonfires and people wear-ing costumes to ward off surrounding spirits. October 31st (Halloween) was believed to be the day in which the line between life and death would cross, and evil spirits would arrive to Earth. These spirits would cause harm to families with sicknesses, and damaged crops. On the upside, the spirits did allow the Druids, Celt-ic priests to make clearer predictions of the future. In the eighth century, November 1st was designated as a day to honor all the saints and martyrs, which later became the holiday All Saints Day. This holiday happened to incorporate many tradi-tions from Samhain festivals. Since November 1st was made All Saints Day, the night before (October 31st) became All Hallow’s Eve. For the Celts, their festivals, All Saints Day, and All Hallow’s Eve were the most important sources of comfort and direction to guide them through the winters that they faced. Over the years, go-ing trick-or- treating has developed from wearing the original ghosts,

witches, and vampires outfits to now dressing up as popular char-acters.
