Summary

Incumbents in the Technical Coordinator series provide audiovisual guidance, advisement, and technical and logistical support for events, meetings, classes, and seminars held in the assigned department or building.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Technical Coordinator Senior is distinguished from the Technical Coordinator III in that incumbents in the senior level have the knowledge and experience to design technological solutions, work with vendors and other partners to develop equipment specifications, and to evaluate the effectiveness of those solutions after operation.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Technical Coordinator Senior typically reports to a Program Coordinator, Assistant Director, or Director. This classification may train and guide hourly and/or student employees.

Typical Functions

1. Provides systems integration and installation, testing, evaluation, and verification of classroom and presentation technology systems or programs.

2. Maintains, repairs, replaces, upgrades and/or troubleshoots Audio/Visual, sound and lighting systems.

3. Maintains inventory of all hardware; keeps maintenance records.4. Coordinates event support, which includes, but is not limited to venue room setups, ensuring

safety of patrons, enforcing policies and procedures, and communicating with the public.5. Schedules equipment and personnel according to the needs of the event.6. Operates technical equipment throughout class and/or event.7. Creates and maintains records and creates reports as requested.8. Communicates with faculty to identify needs and solve problems.9. Designs technology enhanced classrooms, installs equipment, and evaluates the effectiveness of

the classroom technology and learning environment.10. Ensures that equipment adheres to codes, specifications, and University standards.11. Maintains wiring diagram records for all equipment.

regarding the operation and performance of hardware, software, and other system functional specifications to define and meet needs within the specific scope of the job.

14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Knowledge of audio and video application for events, including sound, lighting, projection, and staging.

2. Knowledge of mobile technologies.3. Knowledge of video conferencing and classroom design and technology use.4. Ability to work flexible hours as needed.5. Ability to train and guide hourly and/or student employees.6. Skilled with computers and programs, including Word and Excel.7. Ability to maintain accurate records.8. Ability to create reports.9. Ability to maintain confidentiality.10. Ability to learn new systems.11. Ability to train both technical staff and non-technical users.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree plus four years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an IT related field plus two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. Employees are frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. Employees must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds and retrieve and transport audiovisual equipment.
