How I will address my target audience

What is a typical horror audience?

According to the information shown here taken from the website http://www.valmorgan.co.nz/audiences/profiles/horror-movies/ , it is very clear that most horror fans are aged between 14 and 24 and are women. From this we can tell that in order to target a horror audience I need to market my horror film’s trailer to teens and young adults.

I plan to address my target audience by using codes and conventions that are typical of the genre.

This includes playing creepy or scary music or attempting to subvert the meaning of a song by using it out of context. This includes the film Jeepers Creepers which took the love song Jeepers Creepers and made it sound creepy for the film by making it refer to the film’s monster’s love of human flesh.

I plan to also use other horror codes and conventions such as not showing the killers or the murderer’s face in order to emphasise the horror.

As well as his, I also plan to use very enclosed and dark locations such as a canal or tunnel in order to emphasise the sense that no one will find you if you die in these places. It emphasises that the characters cannot escape from the horrors inflicted upon them.

Part 2

Another horror convention that I plan to use is the fact that a lot of the scenes will happen at night. This lack of visibility that is caused by night emphasises the fact that the villain is horrifying as he strikes when we ae unable to se him.

Finally, I also plan to use low key lighting and scenes of people staring in horror and disgust in order to emphasise the horrific nature of the trailer.
