HOW WILL I ADDRESS MY TARGET AUDIENCE

WHAT I NEED TO DO

To address my target audience I will have to show in the ident video the key connotations to my channel. I will also have to get across a preferred reading that is very clear, to ensure that the audience understand exactly what to expect from my channel.

SEMIOTICS

Use of semiotics is key. If I use cliché signifiers and stereotypes I will be able to get across to the audience the message and connotations I want. This is very important in an ident video as they are usually only a few seconds long, meaning I do not have much time to communicate my message. So any quick signifiers are useful.

SIGNIFIERS IN MY VIDEO PT.1

A long road - this will be used as anchorage, it shows that my channel will involve transport and I do not need to feature a car all the way through the video. The length of the road can symbolize the large amount of content on the channel and shows that the channel does not stop broadcasting.

SIGNIFIERS IN MY VIDEO PT.2 A fast/nice car - Showing a fast or expensive car will show the

luxury of the channel and can entice people who are seeking luxuries. If the car is expensive it will most likely be something that is quite rare and not usually seen, this means the channel will be offering things that people will not ordinarily be able to see.

Alternatively, by showing a rare modified car it will represent what the channel is about and entice those who modify cars themselves.

My logo - To make sure that the audience understand exactly what the channel is and this links the video to the brand. Therefore the video will instantly be an icon for the channel.

A loud engine sound - Engine noise is something that people interested in motorsport find very satisfying, therefore by having a nice sounding engine I will be able to attract people who are interested in motorsport just by the sound, meaning they don’t even need to be watching the TV to be attracted.
