It is used when we want to give more importance

to the action instead of the person who

performs.

Example:

◦ Active: The dog bit the mailman.(El perro mordió al

cartero)

◦ Passive: The mailman was bitten by the dog. El cartero

fue mordido por el perro)

General rule:

◦ Subject + Ailiary Verb (TO BE) + Past Participle

◦ 1. The object changes in the subject of the voice passive.

◦ 2. The subject of the voice active changes in the complement agent of the active. It adds the end of the sentence introduces for a preposition “BY”.

◦ 3. The verbs of the active sentences changes into in passive verb.

Subject + Auxiliary Verb (TO BE) + Past Participle

The verb present simple in active voice changes

for the form:

Ex: She buy a new car (active)

The new car is brought by her (passive)

Am/ are / is + verb past participle / verb regular (-ed).

This change is the follow:

EX: He read the book in the park(active)

The book was read in the park by

him(passive)

Was/ were + verb past participle/ verb regular (-ed)

Ex: They have begun a fantastic travel (active)

The fantastic travel have been begun by

them (passive)

Have/Has Been + Verb Past Participle / Verb regular (-ed)

Ex: Susan had chosen an incredible buffet for

lunch (active)

The incredible buffet had been chosen for

lunch by Susan (passive)

Had Been + Verb Past Participle / Verb regular (-ed)

Ex: I will become a good administrative (active)

A good administrative will be become by me

(passive)

Will + Be + Verb Past Participle / Verb regular (-ed)

Ex: You are going to played the tennis match

(active)

The tennis match is going to be played by

your (passive)

Is/are Going To+ Be + Verb Past Participle/ Verb regular (-ed)

Must:

Ex: I must eaten some fruits (active)Some fruits must be eaten by me (passive)

Can:

Ex: You can eaten some fruits (active)Some fruits can be eaten by your (passive)

Should:

Ex: She should eaten some fruits (active)Some fruits should be eaten by her (passive)

ACTIVE:

He (subject) built (active voice) the house (object)

PASSIVE:

The house (object as subject) was built (verb passive) by him

The milk is drunk in the container by the cat (passive)

2. She wrote a letter to her friend (active)

The letter was written to her friend by her (passive)

3. The hen has laid five eggs in the corral (active)

Five eggs has been laid in the corral by the hen (passive)

4. The fishing is going to fished some crab (active)

Some crab are going to be fished by the fishing (passive)
