How to build traffic to your website: Part One

If you build it will they come? Part one of a two part series on how to build traffic.

So you’ve poured your heart and soul into building your website.

You’re all ready and waiting f or those leads to come in, you’ve got your f irst webinar planned and and ready togo in a f ew weeks

But you don’t have any traf f ic and your Alexa ranking is in the tens of millions

How do you get started building traf f ic to your website?

Content marketing is important but traf f ic is the key ingredient you need f or building your list.

Building traf f ic is one of the hardest but most important parts of online marketing

Most people don’t know how or ref use to implement the basic traf f ic building methods that are crit ical tobuilding their business. I want to point out that you need to be consistent and patient as these methods arethe f oundation of building traf f ic and that your results will not happen overnight.

What you need to know about building traffic

1. Build traf f ic by using the right keywords

When it comes to building traf f ic, its like baking a cake and the f irst ingredient you need to have is the right

keywords. At f irst you won’t be able to rank f or the high traf f ic keywords like List buildng so it is better to f indand use a long tail keyword that f ocuses on something that your target audience wants to buy or learn about. An example of that might be how to build an email list.

The next thing you want to do is to use SEO Quake and do a litt le more research to see check out yourcompetit ion f or this keyword phrase. This is a f ree extention that you can add to your browser and check outyour competit ion. If the competit ion is low then you’ve f ound your keyword.

I suggest that you f ind more than one long tailed keyword to add to your marketing tool box.

2. Build traf f ic using original content

Content creation and marketing should be the cornerstone of your business and traff ic buildingstrategies. While you can and should research the most popular content in your niche, you should be writ ingf rom your own unique perspective on them.

Doing this allows you to develop your own voice and helps you to stand out in the crowd.

Longer post are more powerf ul than short posts! According to the graph below by MOZ, The longer a post isand more inf ormative to your audience, the more it will be read.

Personally, I think that it is okay f or you to mix it up. But remember make sure that the majority of your postsare longer. And that being said, make them readable. Read more about this here: Five Part Formula For ASuccessf ul Article

Every piece of content you create should have at least one graphic. IF you can add a video or inf ographic toyour content that will help to engage your audience even more.

I also want to point out the rising popularity of podcasting here. If you record your post and set up your sitewith the blubrry powerpress plugin you can get your content out on another platf orm that will drive more traf f icto your website.

3. Use Social Media to build traf f ic

Social media is what you use to build short term traff ic to your site. You’ll want to get your content outright away on the big three Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter. But don’t overlook StumbleUpon, Pinterest andGoogle+.

One of the f irst things you’ll want to do right away when you publish your content is go to your post and makesure you share it on google+. You want to do this because doing this alerts google right away that you havepublished new content and they will start indexing your site.

4. Interview inf luencers in your niche

You should know who the inf luencers are in your niche, I have built a list of 100 people who are inf luencers inmy niche to f ollow and begin to build relationships with them.

It is never to early to start reaching out and building those relationships. Ask them f or an interview by sendingthem a short email (LinkedIn is great f or this), introduce and tell them a litt le bit about yourself and ask f or theinterview. I suggest starting lower on the list of inf luencers, they will probably be more likely to agree to aninterview.

I suggest that you send them a list of questions prior to the interview. And then once the interview is f inished,

send them the recording and the notes f or the post. Ask them to share the interview with their audience. Ifyou are lucky and they have a good list, you will get a nice boost to your traf f ic.

5. Build traf f ic with Infographics

Graphics are an important part of marketing! They are the f irst thing that grabs the reader ’s eye, more thanthe copy itself .

Inf ographics is a great way to share your inf ormation in a visual way and if you are on Pinterest at all, youknow that they are some of the most popular pins.

You can get started creating your own Inf ographics using a tool such as Visual.ly.

Anatomy of a great Infographic

An attention grabbing headline

Make it vertical, not horizontal

Short points that illustrate your topic

include statistics where possible

Keep your points at 9 or less, otherwise you will loose the attention of your reader

Add your branding and url at the bottom

Promote your Infographic to build traff ic

This is where you want to use embed codes. This makes it easy f or your visitors to share your inf ographicand is a way f or you to naturally generate some inbound links, since your image will automatically link back toyour website.

Here’s how to add your embed code:

Add Embed Code Generator plugin on your websiite,

Add your inf ographic to your post

then click on the embed code f ield and add your to your inf ographic.

This is where embed codes come in. Providing embed codes to make it easy f or your visitors to share yourvisual content on their own blog is not only a great way to encourage sharing. It 's also a way f or you togenerate some inbound links too, since the embedded image will automatically link back to your website.
