And it’s this philosophy that has kept D & M Leasing on top of its game. “Seventy-five percent of our cus- tomers are repeat … if we give them good service, they’ll come back to us,” said Gulam. Roger Lee, president of D.R 2 Marketing, is a repeat customer, hav- ing leased eight vehicles with D & M over the past 15 years. “It’s just so easy,” said Lee of the relationship. “You avoid all the has- sles. All my transactions have been done over the phone.” Lee explained that on the way home from the airport one day, he decided he wanted to trade in his SUV for a smaller car. He told D & M what he wanted. The company asked him “What color?” and it was ready for him within an hour of his arrival. The paperwork was even in the front seat, ready to go. After experiencing the company’s customer service firsthand, Lee eventu- ally went to work in the marketing department at D & M, which later spunoff into a separate company, D.R. 2 Marketing. Lee co-owns the agency with Mike Hernandez, who also owns D & M, Mortgages U.S.A. and Sellstate Realty. And Lee still leas- es from D & M today. Gulam says it is this focus on cus- tomer service and satisfaction that has kept D & M going strong, despite industry challenges such as rising interest rates, increased competition, war and the economy. “Over the years, we’ve really tried to take care of our customers, and do what’s right by them,” said Gulam. “They are the crutch of our business.” D & M Leasing was established in 1976 as an auto leasing company by Don Davis and Davis Moritz. In 1988, Hernandez, 45, became a partner, eventually buying out Davis and Moritz. Hernandez got his degree in engi- neering from A&M. One of his col- lege roommates was John David Moritz, who introduced him to Moritz and D & M. He eventually joined the company and helped open an office in Tampa, Fla. called Apple Leasing, a former division of D & M. D & M provides customized leasing programs and, in addition to leasing opportunities, offers several other serv- ices.
