    练习 young people in china

Modern entertainment has changed greatly in the last 20 years in China. Along with traditional pastimes, many new pastimes have become fashionable. Many young people go out with friends to participate in a variety of activities. Along with shopping, eating out, trips to the countryside and to famous sights, people enjoy karaoke, discos and other such activities.

People living in the city can go boating, enjoy amusement park rides, bungy jump at a variety of venues or simply go strolling and picnicking at famous scenic spots with classmates and friends. In the cities there are zoos, parks, cultural centres, aquariums, museums, amusement and theme parks to visit. Beijing now has one of the largest aquariums in Asia – run by Kelly Tarlton's, an Auckland based company.

Teahouses have also reappeared in the streets of China. People go to these teahouses to chat or meet new friends. However, it’s the ballrooms, karaoke halls, coffee bars and nightclubs that are the modern meeting places for young people. Just as their parents visit public parks to practise ballroom dancing, young people can be seen out and about practising disco moves and breakdancing.

  • With the computer age, computer games, DVDs and VCDs, the Internet and PlayStations have become part of life for many Chinese families. Almost all large cities have Internet cafes and computer game arcades. Chinese is now the second largest Internet language and modern electronics are common in China.

Changes have taken place in Chinese entertainment, as in other parts of Chinese society. Seeing movies used to be the only entertainment available. That time is almost over. Modern forms of entertainment have become more widespread, as patterns of leisure and consumer spending power have changed.
