THE GIFT OF GOD’S WORD On this day of gifts and gift‑giving, it seems appropriate that we take a moment to reflect on the great gift of God’s Word. Because it is creative, God’s Word always points to its author, always calls us to respond. Because it is powerful, God’s Word can link the sublime with the ridiculous, the transcendent with the immanent, the divine with the human. Because it is graceful, God’s Word establishes a relationship of deep intimacy between us and God. At the heart of God’s Word lies a tantalizing tension between the mysterious and the mundane. In our liturgical celebration, this unre-solved tension both reveals the meaning of life for us and calls us to respond, to act upon that meaning. Once accepted and opened, the gift of God’s Word is a gift that keeps on giving and keeps on calling us to give in return. It dares us to be like the gift‑giver and to become gifts for others, not only at Christ-mas, but at every moment of life. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora

Merry Christmas! Christmas is finally here, but most especially God is here. Emmanuel – God with us. Christmas this year is quite special since it falls on a Sunday, the Lord’s Day. Our hearts

should be filled with gladness and joy to receive this very special gift from on high, the gift of a person, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, Jesus Christ our Lord. God is a loving God who is generous to give us His very pre-cious and greatest gift, His Son. As we end this year, count your blessings and you will see how generous God has been to you. To breathe everyday is already a blessing. The sun and moon, the ocean and the hills are our blessings too. Your family and friends, are your blessings too. Don’t forget to count all of them. Our parishioners have taken on the image of God; they have been so generous this season and throughout the year. When we prepared the Christmas Giving Trees, the cards were taken right away. Our parishioners responded to the requests or wishes, even if some of the items were expensive. Here are some of the items that were requested: portable radio, tennis shoes, camera, neck-lace, warm pants, record player, sweat suit, Target cards. We also put on additional cards for some of our parishioners, besides the Janet Pomeroy Center clients. Thank you for your generosity also to the Archdiocesan Annu-al Appeal. We have not only completed our goal, but have exceed-ed it again. Our parishioners have been generous with their treas-ure, a component of the Stewardship way of life. Cecilia Bermudez, our Church Environment coordinator, has been giving so much of her time, talent and treasure to our parish. She suddenly lost her husband, Vic, a week before Christmas after coming home from the Parish Advent Retreat. His body was laid to rest at Holy Cross few days just before Christmas. Cecilia’s great-est gift is offering her husband back to the Lord. Despite her loss and moments of bereavement, she continued on decorating the Church to make it look special for Christmas. A loving and gener-ous person continues to serve despite of everything. A mother and her small daughter were thumbing through a Christmas catalogue looking at toys. “I’d like that big red bike,” said the child. “When you’re bigger,” the mother said. The little girl pointed at a toy stove, a doll pram, a little fridge. Each time the mother made the same answer, “When you’re big-ger.” The girl kept pointing a still more toys and each time the moth-er’s answer was, “When you’re bigger.” Finally they closed the catalogue and the mother asked the daughter, “Well, have you decided what you want for Christmas? “Yes, Mommy,” she replied. “I want to get bigger.” That’s what I want for Christmas, “I want to get bigger” in faith, so I can continue to serve despite of everything.

“Behold, I bring you tidings of Great Joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is CHRIST THE LORD. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in

swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” -Luke 2:10
