Parking, Parking, Parking! As I am sure all of you have noticed the new fence at the exit of the new parking area was damaged by an unknown vehicle. While our insur-ance will be paying for most of the damage we still have a $500.00 dollar deductible. The repair cost is $1,450.00. For additional security we will be placing four cement filled bollards in front of that section of fencing. This will cost an additional $1,200.00. As parishioners and guests become accustomed to the new parking area. Much less congestion is seen in the parking lot. Please remember: Courtesy and Patience go a long way!

New Evangelization If someone were to tell you that you need to evangelize other men, what would be your reaction?

Perhaps, it might be, “I evangelize by example not with words. That’s what priests and deacons do.” Or maybe, it would be, “I would like to, but I’m not trained or knowledgeable enough to do it.” Or maybe, “That’s something Evangelical Protestants do, not Catholics.” We as Catholic men have to get over the notion that evangelism is for Protestants. This notion is totally untrue – evangelization is the “essential Catholic mission.” Just before he ascended into heaven, Jesus told the apostles: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every crea-ture” (Mark 16:15). Beginning on Pentecost, the apostles did just that, and the work of evangelization continues to this day. It

is a calling that has not changed over the years, as Pope Paul VI affirmed in his letter on “Evangelization in the Modern World.” We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church. It is a task and mission which the vast and profound changes of present day society make all the more ur-gent. Evangelizing is in fact the grace and voca-tion proper to the Church, her deepest identi-ty. She exists in order to evangelize.

E-van'-gel-ize Several members of our parish Evangelization Team attended a day-long seminar entitled "Forming Disciples in Mission" at the Cathedral last Saturday, presented by repre-sentatives of the Boston Arch-diocese. The event was open to all parishes of the Dio-cese and was very well-attended. The program is designed to show participants how to evangelizers. One participant highlighted these key points: * Evangelizing means spreading the good news. * The good news is that Jesus is God become man, Who, for love of each of us, died for our sins so we could go to heaven, and gave us the Church to teach us and transmit sanctifying grace through the sacraments. * All Catholics, and especially lay Catho-lics, have a duty to evangelize. * The first person to be evangelized is one-self. We evangelize ourselves through prayer, learning and living the faith to the best of our ability each day. * The work of evangelization never ends.
