Piloted
Kloodle with
75 students -
extended to
1000+
Rolled Kloodle
out with full
cohort
(2000+)
Introduced
targeted skills
weeks
Classroom
behaviour
informed use
Fully
embedded
Kloodle into
pastoral
programme
Wanted to
monitor extra-
curricular
activities
So, what have been the challenges?
Not lack of student interest.
Not student misuse.
Not privacy issues.
Not rolling out with such large numbers.
Not access to IT facilities.
The main challenge has been …
“So, how can we measure impact?”
“The specification is already too packed,
I’ve not got time.”
“How do I set up a group?”
“Do I have to
upload a
profile picture?”
“Can they see everything
on someone’s profile if
they make a connection?”
“Can they not just do it themselves?”
Main concerns
Familiarising staff
Packed syllabus
Top down approach - support of CLT.
Promoted Kloodle in full staff meeting.
Trained staff in small staff teams.
Solutions
Support of CLT - college agenda - SoW.
Introduced dedicated cross-curricular
skills’ weeks.
No extra burden - just a change of
language.
How to ensure students are
uploading quality evidence
Admin checks newsfeed once a week.
Scaffolds discussion during 1-2-1 reviews
and for mock interviews.
Continuing data developments.
Has it been a success?
Students can discuss and evidence their skill-
set with growing confidence.
UCAS and post 18 employment or apprenticeship
preparation now begins from day 1.
Informative and holistic work experience
diaries are maintained and regularly updated.
Students preparing for interviews
all year round.
Skills’ weeks have raised the awareness of both staff
and students to preparing students to be ‘work ready’.
Profiles provide a rich source of information to
prompt 1-2-1 reviews and careers’ interviews.
Students have used the quick look CV to
successfully apply for part-time and weekend jobs.
Student wide groups create a network for
aspirational students to compete nationally.
2017 and beyond
HoD will report back after each skills’
week detailing their subject’s involvement.
Each curricular area to trial use of
Kloodle tasks
Continuation of numeracy
and literacy as core focuses
of T&L team
All departments will
have a noticeboard
dedicated to employability
skills in their subject.
Continue to engage
students with
Opportunities on the site -
both locally and nationally
Using students as
Kloodle ambassadors
