1. College Vision, Mission and Motto Year Founded: 2006 Vision: It is our vision to provide the best nurturing opportunities that unleash students’ potential, inspire excellence and cultivate lifelong learners and leaders of tomorrow. Mission: HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College (hereafter HLC) is dedicated to creating a positive environment where young minds are inspired and enthused to challenge themselves and strive for excellence inside and beyond the classroom. We are committed to nurturing students to be intellectually competent, with positive moral characters, values, conscientiousness and physical prowess. Passion for learning, knowledge and the broadening of horizons are the hallmarks of an education in HLC. We believe all these are essential for the greater development of inquisitiveness, curiosity, exploratory spirits and a global outlook, alongside academic pursuits. College Motto: Our College motto, “Wisdom in Action (智慧之源求實求真 )” guides students

towards a greater inquisitiveness and curiosity, not just with regard to their studies, but also towards life and the world around them. To actualize the College motto: Wisdom in Action, HLC develops students’ self-directed learning, self-discipline and self-efficacy in the spheres of Wisdom in Learning, Wisdom in Relationships and Wisdom in Living, with the cultivation of the 5 core values: Respect the others, Caring for others, Perseverance, Integrity and Responsibility, as the moral framework to mould students’ characters.

3. Our College 3.1 Basic Information

We are a Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) school not participating in Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA). Medium of Instruction: The College aims to help students to become trilingual and bi-literate. All subjects except Chinese Language, Chinese Literature, Chinese History and Liberal Studies are taught in English. English is widely used in assemblies and school activities. Putonghua is used in Chinese Language in S.1-S.2. Class structure: The College operates 6 levels (secondary 1 to secondary 6), each with a maximum of 5 classes. The class size on average is below 30. In the 2018-19 school year we opened up to 30 classes with a total of 715 students. School Fee: In the 2018-19 school year, the school fee was $24,600 per annum for S.1-S.3, and $36,900 per annum for S.4-S.5 payable in 10 monthly installments and for S.6, payable in 7 installments. We offer HLC Scholarships to students who attain high academic results and have good conduct, and fee remission to those in need. HLC Campus: Continuous effort is made to maintain a facilitative environment for learning and teaching. The coverage of wireless network is extended to classrooms and special rooms on all floors, making it more convenient for students to participate in e-Learning activities. The Blackbox Theatre equipped with theatrical facilities and furniture is for the development of English Musical and Drama. The LEAD Lab provides wide range of STEM learning resources such as LEGO MINDSTORMS

®EV3, Arduino and micro:bit. The College Library, as a hub of learning, is spacious and brightly lit. It is stocked up with a wide range of learning resources such as books, journals and multimedia materials. A quiet corner is specifically designated for self-study purpose. The Fitness Centre houses exercise equipment for physical training. The College facilities include:

3.2.3 School Governance and Operation

The College is managed by the School Management Committee which is accountable to the School Sponsoring Body. The Governance Review Sub-committee (GRSC) helps review key management and financial control systems and procedures. The areas reviewed in the 2018-19 school year included human resources management (staff recruitment and remuneration policy, other staff movements – contract renewal, termination, retirement, dismissal), and finance and resources management (fees and collections policy, accounting practices – fixed assets). In the 2018-19 school year, the Principal was assisted by the Vice-Principal, 4 Deans and 7 senior teachers in the Development and Management Committee (DMC) to formulate programmes and plans, and facilitate the day-to-day operation. Head Prefects and Student Union Representatives also joined the DMC meetings and they are actively engaged in policy formation of the College.

5. Our Staff The total number of staff was 90 including the Principal, 68 teachers (including Vice-Principal) and 2 contract Native-speaking English teachers. Support staff included 1 Executive Officer, 6 clerical staff members, 2 laboratory technicians, 1 laboratory assistant, 2 IT technicians, 1 library clerk and 6 janitorial staff members. 6. Learning and Teaching 6.1 Lesson Time for Key Learning Areas (KLAs) in Junior Forms

6.2 Academic Initiatives

6.2.1 HLC Curriculum

All teachers worked together and came up with the Overall Aims of HLC Curriculum after which all subject departments, committees and working groups would fine-tune their work according to these aims, creating the synergy effect. The College had made good efforts to cater students’ needs by introducing two more electives in the DSE curriculum starting from 2019, namely Visual Arts and Literature in English, resulting in a broader curriculum. Moreover, a 2X stream was newly added for students who wanted to focus on 2 electives instead of 3, and more lesson time would be given to core subjects. The above changes were based on survey results: 94.4% and 72.3% parents and teachers agreed the College should provide both 3X and 2X groups. The HKUxHLC Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) Initiative was launched smoothly in collaboration with the Technology-Enriched Learning Initiative (TELI) from The University of Hong Kong (HKU). MOOC was promoted to all S.1 students who were invited to attend the briefing session, workshops and ceremony at HKU. S.1 to S.6 students who were interested in MOOC were supported by teacher mentors and a series of lectures in HKU. A total of 30 MOOCs were completed in 2018-19.

The HLC Scholar Scheme, which aims to acknowledge the diversity of learners’ ability and move high-ability students through our curriculum at a faster pace, was first introduced in 2019. Students who have excellent academic performance in HLC and have met the MOOC requirements are eligible for joining the curriculum acceleration programme in which they can be promoted from S.1 to S.3 or S.2 to S.4. In 2019, one student in S.2 joined the Scheme. HLC has been an active participant in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) as the College would sponsor the top students in English, Mathematics and Science to take part in the competition every year in order to broaden students’ horizons. The Reading to Learn Curriculum was launched in S.1 to S.2 in Reading Sessions to promote reading and equip students with different reading skills. The elements of Information Literacy and other subjects were included. The provision of GCE A-level curriculum was explored and stakeholders were consulted. Percentages of S.1 and S.2 parents preferring HLC to offer the GCE A-Level curriculum were 81% and 76% respectively. Teachers visited Creative Secondary School, Diocesan Girls' School, United Christian College (Kowloon East) and ARCH Education to understand the implementation of GCE A-Level curriculum. Students’ learning experiences were extended through English Debate, English Musical and Drama, and a well-planned ‘HLC Global Week’ which offered students the opportunity to interact with foreigners and stimulate curiosity about the world. HLCians were invited to a “picnic”, sharing delicacies and culture from diverse countries and would equally get to interact with guests from different backgrounds. In Stakeholder Survey (SHS), the rating for all items in curriculum increased. On average, there was an increase of 0.2 for “my views on school curriculum”.

6.2.2 Self-Directed Learning (SDL) With a series of staff development measures like arranging interflow on Staff Development Days, lesson observations with various network schools from the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools and conducting in-house lesson studies, all subject departments were well-equipped and designed sets of guided learning plans. 3 key elements were emphasized in adopting SDL: (1) Clear and specific learning objectives (2) Cultivation of good learning habits with pre-lesson preparation, using

the structured pre-lesson learning tasks in the guided learning plans (3) Active learning atmosphere in class where students are sitting in groups

with heterogeneous grouping

6.2.3 Catering for Diversities To cater for learning diversity, teachers would evaluate students’ progress using assessment data. Subject departments had devised strategies to help students with different needs, e.g. designing graded questions, discussing learning difficulties in co-planning sessions, arranging extended programmes for enhancement and remediation, promoting collaborative learning, understanding students’ needs by pre-tasks and post-tasks. Furthermore, teachers were equipped with mentoring skills to support late developers and high achievers in different workshops, gaining more understanding about students with different needs. 6.3 Academic Achievements

Our students performed outstandingly in inter-school academic competitions and contests. We had a number of High Distinction and Distinction awards in Public Speaking and Debating competitions, Hong Kong School Drama Festival, Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, Mathematics and Science competitions, Sports competitions, Music contests and Harvard Book Prize. 3B Lau Hoi Chin Elisa was nominated to participate in '21st Century Cup' National English Speaking Competition held in Hangzhou. Students also achieved pleasing results in Chinese writing, business and management. We were the beneficiaries of Leadership programmes provided by various institutes. 2 of our S.3 groups got the Champion of the HKFYG School of Global Leadership Overseas Ambassador Programme and 4 groups got the second runner-cup.

2019 ICAS Results: Regarding the results of the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) 2018-2019, HLCians have attained satisfactory scores in both English, Mathematics and Science. Out of the 34 students who participated in the English section, Elisa Lau from 3B and Edith Wong from 5B were awarded high distinction (top 2%) whereas 7 other students were also awarded distinction certificate (top 8%). For Mathematics, among 33 participants, 17 students have been awarded credit certificate. Apart from English and Mathematics, we also participated in Science this year. 13 students were awarded credit certificate.

2019 HKDSE Results: Our S.6 students obtained excellent results in HKDSE, with 91.9% and 57.6% of them meeting the entrance requirement for sub-degree programmes (2222+2) and degree programmes (3322+2) respectively, which are far above the Hong Kong average. For the four core subjects, the average percentages of level 2 or above and level 4 or above are 96.5% and 48.2% respectively. For all subjects, the average percentages of level 2 or above and level 4 or above are 96.3% and 47.5% respectively. Among all subjects, our students performed particularly well in English Language with 100% and 52.5% of them obtaining level 2 or above and level 4 or above respectively. 2019 JUPAS Offer: With the outstanding HKDSE Results, 66.6% of S.6 graduates received JUPAS offer.

7. Student Development and Support 7.1 Discipline and Guidance

HLC adopted a whole-school approach to embrace students’ flourishing lives. All teachers were involved in promoting positive education (PERMA model) by Wisdom in Action Programme, while Form Teachers were trained to take part in sharing positive elements and proper values with students. The high appreciation of Wisdom in Action (WIA) programme in survey to teachers proved its effectiveness. In order to provide professional support, HLC strengthened the collaboration with NGOs and universities. Working with the Centre of Suicide Prevention and Research of HKU, the HKFYG under the project Joyful@School and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, we provided a systematic structure (3-tiers supporting programme) for those who needed extra emotional support by cell group training and individual counselling. Furthermore, HLC also received professional services rendered by School Social Worker and external professionals such as Education Psychologist and Speech Therapist. From Stakeholder Survey, students, parents and teachers all agreed that the school climate is positive. Other than working on preventive and correctional measures on students’ behaviour, Discipline Working Group played a part in nurturing Leaders of Tomorrow this year. We reconstructed Class Association by introducing “Class Leaders”. Every student shared the duties in serving his/her class. Through collaboration with others, students gained “Positive Relationship” by taking up responsibilities. Discipline working group also held Poster and Slogan Competition and the winning works were displayed in the campus.

7.2 Careers and Life Planning Careers Working Group helped students explore their “Meaning of Life” in PERMA. For Junior Forms, students learnt to understand themselves and set their life-planning through the WIA Programme. For Senior Forms, apart from preparing students for university life, students were guided through different tasting programmes offered by the Buildings Department, New World Development, Fundamentum Limited, Linguistics Wonderland 2019 (City University of Hong Kong), Cathay I can fly, MTR Train for Life Journey, Life Buddies, Yuen Long District Summer Internship and Poly U STEM Day in 2018-19. Different workplace visits were also provided, like visits to Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of CUHK, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and Cathay City.

Besides programmes, Careers Guidance Working Group also organized the Overseas study tour to Finland. The tour included university visits (University of Oulu and University of Helsinki) and workplace visits of different industries (technology, environmental protection and design) in Finland. All participants found the study tour meaningful. Our students also joined the Oxford and Cambridge World STEM and Entrepreneurship Summer Programme sponsored by Dr Lee Shau Kee STEM Fund. In 2019-20, Career Guidance Working Group will liaise with Hong Kong Employment Development Service to provide life-planning programmes for HLC students. Besides, HLC has paired up with the New World Development (NWD) under the Life Buddies Mentorship Programme. Various life-planning activities will be provided to our students by the mentors from the NWD.

7.3 Moral and Civic Education

HLC Core Value, “Integrity”, was successfully implemented this year. MCE Ambassadors and teachers shared celebrity stories, quotes and news on integrity during morning assemblies. A video making competition with good quality works was held to further promote “Integrity”. Other than promoting “Integrity”, Civic Education, Love and Sex Education, Service learning, Ladies and Gentlemen Manners Education, Election Education, Media Education, Basic law and National Education were also included this year. Different voluntary activities were held inside and outside school. 11 students were awarded the Volunteer Service Award by HKSAR Social Welfare Department. In January 2019, our MCE Ambassadors collaborated with the Christian Family Service Centre to organise a programme called Tin Shui Wai “Love & Sustainability” Community Engagement Project —New Year Bazaar (天水圍「愛‧可持續」新年市集) in HLC campus, to serve our

community. Last but not least, in order to arouse the awareness of the social issues, MCE Working Group prepared display boards about the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance Conflicts in June 2019. It provided a platform for HLCians to express their views and feelings on that issue.

7.4 Other Learning Experiences Other Learning Experiences Working Group is to brighten students’ “Accomplishment” in PERMA. The College offered a wide range of co-curricular activities including sports, academic, cultural and social services activities. Students achieved outstanding results in many competitions in 2018-19. HLC was proud that our football team player, Chang Chi Ho, Horace, was awarded an England training tour by AXA Foundation Liverpool International Academy Hong Kong 2019, which provided professional soccer training with Liverpool Football Club UK. Furthermore, our students shone in swimming and debate competitions. Girls got the Grade A Overall Champion in Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation Inter-School Swimming Championships (Yuen Long District) in 2018-19, whereas our debaters got Champion in Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition and the 1st Runners-up in the 4th New Territories Joint-school British Parliamentary Debating Tournament. Other Learning Experiences Working Group took a step forward to consolidate students’ fruitful learning experiences at Education Camps by introducing a presentation day after the Life-wide Learning Week. Students showed their learning outcomes through different means, like poster design, video making and PowerPoint presentation etc. The representatives from EDB, Students Mainland Exchange Programme Section and a Supervisor of HKFYG Youth Exchange joined our presentation day and celebrated the success with HLCians.

7.5 Student Bodies Sense of belongings to HLC were fueled by various activities held by Student Bodies Working Group. We encourage students to engage in school activities and promote “Engagement” in PERMA. Student Bodies Working Group held the first student-teacher competition – HLC Kitchen, which filled our campus with enjoyment on that day. Besides, student-led activities were promoted in order to realise HLC Curriculum Aims – to nurture “Leaders of Tomorrow”. From 2018-19, all student leaders, Head Prefects, Students’ Union and Houses were elected by all students and this enhances students’ sense of belonging to HLC. Our student leaders, Students’ Union and Houses, helped host and actively participated in all school functions, including opening and closing ceremonies, giving speech on Sports Day etc., whereas S.6 Graduation Affairs Committee played a main role in organizing the Graduation Ceremony and the Graduation Dinner. These measures successfully enhanced students’ leadership skills and values as moral leaders.

Student Bodies Working Group also collaborated with HKFYG Leadership Institute in broadening students’ horizon by organizing global leaders talks and workshops. All S.3 students were fully sponsored by HLC to join the Overseas Students Ambassadors Programme 2019. 6 groups of students were awarded with the study and research on global issues, such as gender equality, global poverty etc. According to teachers’ survey (Keep-Improve-Start-Stop analysis), colleagues were impressed by the measures of nurturing Leaders of Tomorrow. In July, our SMC member, Mr. Chan Tak-hang invited our teachers to share our strategies on Leadership training with 60 teachers from other schools. The feedback was so encouraging and we are assured of our directions in how to develop and nurture Leaders of Tomorrow.

8. Home-school Cooperation The College established admirable partnership with parents. It is believed that a harmonious relationship between parents and teachers would greatly enhance students’ development. 8.1 Communicating with Parents

The College provided varied and convenient channels to facilitate home-school communication. A total of 3 Parents’ Nights and 1 Parents’ Day were held to disseminate school news, update students’ performance and collect parents’ views on school policies. The College also made very good use of information technology to further enhance communication with parents. The e-Discipline App provided instant information to parents about their children’s behaviors at school. The College instant updates in the HLC Facebook Page were welcomed by parents and students. A series of four booklets of HLCian Press which were prepared by Student Editorial Team and offered latest news of the College and student achievements were distributed to parents and HLCians.

8.2 The Parent-teacher Association (PTA)

The PTA was founded in 2008. The PTA Standing Committee (PTASC) and parents actively participated in school activities and provide appropriate support to the College. Regular PTA meetings held by PTASC served as a bridge between the College and parents. Parents provided assistance to support the College, e.g. student welfare (procurement procedures of tuck shop and school uniform) and school events like Sports Days and Foundation Day. Two parents from the PTASC were elected to be members of SMC and served as a link between parents and the School Sponsoring Body.

The Annual General Meeting cum the 11th Standing Committee election of PTA was held on 28th September 2018, with School Supervisor Ms Alice Lui’s presence. Ms Shirley Yeung Wai-man was elected as the Chairman. The PTASC altogether held four meetings. Discussions on the adjustment of school fee and Reserve for Construction, Maintenance and Upgrading of Above-Standard Facilities were included in the meetings. The PTASC worked closely with the Student Welfare Working Group of the College on the major student service providers, such as tuck shop and school uniforms provider. Besides, the PTASC organized a Christmas party in December, a talk on Empathy and a day trip to Ma Shi Chau in April, shoe-polishing and ironing workshop and Yoga class in May, and “Press to Shock-Save a life” AED course in June. Our heartfelt thanks to the PTA and parents for their unfailing support.

9. Achievements and Reflections on Major Concerns During the 6th Staff Meeting in June 2019, through group discussion, all teachers reviewed the progress of HLC Development Plan 2018-21 and evaluated the effectiveness of HLC Annual Plan 2018-19. Among the 12 strategies (5 for Major Concern 1 and 7 for Major Concern 2), the top 3 that rated by teachers are as follows: 1. Celebrate students’ achievements and success (Item 2.4);

2. Strengthen the roles of student leaders by enhancing their participation and

autonomy in organizing activities (Item 2.5); and

3. Enhance students’ positive values by refining school-based “Wisdom In Action” (WIA) programme (Item 2.2).

Major Concern 1: Cultivating Passionate Lifelong Learners a. Promote Self-Directed Learning (SDL)

Conduct lesson studies focusing on subject-based strategies to promote self-directed learning.

Enhance students’ self-directed learning by e-Learning tools and guided learning plans.

Establish students’ habit of self-directed learning by collaborating with external institutions.

Reflection 87% teachers agreed the lesson studies could help prepare them for the use of SDL. 100% subject departments have produced a set of guided learning plans. 100% teachers agreed they were more aware of the strategies of SDL. In teachers’ survey in SHS, the rating of the item “I often teach my students learning strategies, such as doing pre-lesson preparation, using concept maps, tool books and on-line resources, etc.” increased from 3.9 to 4.1. Also, the rating of the item “I often arrange various learning activities such as group discussion and oral presentation in lessons” increased from 3.7 to 4.0. In student’s survey, the rating for “I take the initiative to learn” increased from 3.5 to 3.6. For “I am able to apply learning strategies, such as doing pre-lesson preparation, using concept maps, tool books and on-line resources, etc.”, the rating remained to be 3.5.

Having gained the experience of adopting SDL guided learning plans, teachers could further develop more guided learning plans for 2019-20 in S1 to S5.

In general teachers needed more support in using e-learning to facilitate students’ SDL, e.g. arrange interflow and workshops.

Teachers agreed lesson studies helped them understand how to adopt guided learning plans in class. In 2019-20, the focus should be on how to use e-learning tools to facilitate SDL.

b. Enrich School Curriculum to Cater for Students’ Needs

Improve students’ reading habit by refining Reading to Learn practices. Realise the “Overall Aims of HLC Curriculum” in practice by refining school-

based curriculum. Devise plans to support students’ pursuits in aesthetic and sports developments. Explore the possibility of implementing international curriculum. Reflection

DSE Visual Arts and Literature in English would be offered in senior curriculum starting from 2019-20. S.4 Curriculum with 2X stream would be offered in 2019-20. In SHS, the rating for all items in curriculum increased. On average, there is an increase of 0.2 for “my views on school curriculum”.

With the Overall Aims of HLC Curriculum formulated, subjects should fine-tune their assessment tasks in response to the overall aims in coming years.

As the College has planned to offer GCE A-Level Curriculum starting from 2021, science and math teachers will start to prepare relevant teaching resources and attend training. We will also arrange interflow with other schools or parties to understand more about GCE A-level curriculum.

The S.1 and S.2 ‘Reading to Learn’ curriculum should be fine-tuned and the atmosphere of reading can be further strengthened and more collaboration between library and subject departments is required.

For aesthetic and sports development, we will further explore the possibility of provision of DSE Music and Physical Education.

We should explore the construction of sports complex or swimming pool.

Major Concern 2: Embracing Flourishing Lives

a. Equip students with elements of well-being and broaden students’ horizons by enlisting external support

Collaborated with HKU and completed the Positive Education Junior curriculum. According to teachers’ survey, it was found the programme helped students understand more about positive psychology and established well-being.

Collaborated with HKFYG by joining Joyful @ School. An S.2 and S.3 cell group was set up with systematic training, which strengthened their resilience.

According to SHS, the average score of 4.1 was recorded in the item: “My view on Student Development” which assured our direction in the work on student development.

Reflection Due to the completion of HKU and Joyful@School projects, the Guidance Working Group will take up the role of promoting PERMA through assemblies, thematic weeks and extra-curricular activities. Also one more social worker will stay at HLC to work on emotional cases and she will run cell groups in order to strengthen students’ resilience.

b. Enhance students’ positive values by refining school-based “Wisdom in Action” programme

The PERMA elements in WIA Programme were consolidated. The learning and teaching materials of WIA programme have been updated and revised. Form Teachers are ready to take up the role to lead the lessons in 2019-20.

The APASO and the SHS results revealed an increasing result in the related items like “Social skills” and “Opportunities”. Also from SHS, the average score of 4.0 was recorded in the item: “The school actively helps students develop correct values”. Besides, from the “KISS” survey, colleagues also highly recommended the WIA programme. These data proved that our WIA programme has bought positive impact to students.

Reflection To further enhance the effectiveness of the Positive Education, cultivating a caring school climate is essential. A future task is to deploy senior students as mentors to run a Freshmen Programme for S.1 in 2019-20.

c. Facilitate students’ life-planning by strengthening network programmes and introducing Student Portfolio

The Cover of the Student Portfolio has been designed by students. Students tasted various programmes and were actively engaged in workplace

visits provided by various organizations.

The data from APASO of the related items like “Expectation on Career” and “Goal setting” showed an increment to 3.0.

Reflection

For further development, Career Guidance Working Group will liaise with Hong Kong Employment Development Service and New World Development to provide life-planning programmes for HLCians. Individual counselling services will be further strengthened to cater individual needs. d. Celebrate students’ achievements and success

A post Life-wide Learning Week sharing afternoon was held. The representatives from EDB and Supervisor from HKFYG joined our presentation day and celebrated the success with our students. An excellent video assignment from S.3 was shown at the Parents’ Night in May 2019.

Three Prize Presentation Ceremonies were held at Friday Assembly to celebrate students’ achievements. Students welcomed this new arrangement.

Reflection

Although this item was highly rated by all teachers, according to APASO, a decrease was found in enjoying school activities. Students may need more platforms to show their talents in front of their fellow schoolmates. In order to enhance their sense of accomplishment and let students shine, arrangements for Morning Assembly will be revised and the OLE Working Group will invite different students to perform on stage on Thursday Morning Assembly in 2019-20.

e. Strengthen the roles of students leaders by enhancing their participation and autonomy in organizing activities

Reconstructed the Class Association by adding Gratitude Team and OLE Leaders in order to cultivate a positive school climate. According to SHS, there is a good atmosphere at HLC. Teachers, students and parents all supported our programmes and rated the related items with/over the score of 4. Also in SHS, “The school actively encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities” was rated at the score of 4.1.

Not only student leaders, Principal and Dean of SAC met representatives from each class twice a year to collect their opinion. Students representatives showed appreciation on the arrangement. Student voices were shared with teachers and parents during staff meetings and Parents’ Night respectively.

To nurture leaders of tomorrow, we have focused on providing opportunities for student leaders to lead and host school functions. Student leaders actively participated through taking the roles of MCs and performers, and organizing activities. Student leaders showed appreciation on the arrangement. Also, starting from September 2018, Head Prefects, SU Chairman and Vice-chairman joined the Development and Management Meeting and participated in policy formation of the College.

All S.3 students were funded to joined the HKFYG Leaders Institution’s Overseas Ambassadors programme. 80% of S.3 students achieved the completion certificate, whereas 2 groups got the Champion and 3 groups got the second runner-up.

Teachers were impressed by our systematic training programme for leaders. From SHS survey, “The school provides enough opportunity to foster students’ leadership” was recorded with an average score of 4.3.

Reflection In 2018-19, HLC promoted Integrity among all students. Teachers and students shared a lot on the importance of Integrity during Morning Assembly. Students found it was effective when they answered the questionnaire. However, according to APASO, the area of Caring for Others slightly dropped,

In 2019-20, the focused core value of HLC is “Caring for others”. To further enhance students’ autonomy, HLC will enact Form Committees to help students organize their form-based activities.

In May 2019, before the 6th Staff Meeting, all teachers completed the form of ‘Review & Planning 2019’ individually. Other than reviewing the personal professional growth during the academic year 2018-19, teachers adopted the KISS (Keep-Improve-Start-Stop) model to give constructive advice on key aspects. Teachers also made proposal for HLC Annual Plan 2019-20. The Principal compiled all the advices and proposals, and sent the summary to all teachers before the 6th Staff Meeting. During the 6th Staff Meeting, all teachers conducted the Review & Planning process through group discussion with reference to all teachers’ advice and proposals. With all teachers’ input, the HLC Annual Plan 2019-20 was finalized and endorsed by SMC in June 2019.

11. Future Planning In its 13th year of operation, HLC has been adopting a steady and progressive approach in school development. With the concerted efforts of all HLCians, the accomplishments are evident. With the leadership of SMC members and the devotion of our professional team, HLC is committed to nurturing HLCians to become leaders of tomorrow.

12. Acknowledgement Deep gratitude goes to HKFYG and Dr Rosanna Wong, for their vision and mission of providing quality education to children in the western part of the New Territories. Professor Wong Hoi-kwok, former SMC chairman, Ms Yolanda Chiu and Mr Andy Ho, our former School Supervisors, had incessantly nurtured HLC with heart, expertise and professionalism.
