After about 10 years of studies at the seminary, he was ordained by the bishop to become a priest. He would have joined the air force if he didn’t become a priest.

Father Peter likes to visit friends, play video games, pray, watch movies, and go to Chestnut Ridge to play tennis. There is much more about Father Peter. He’s social, outgoing, likes to make new friends, loves to smile, and believes in doing the right thing.

His favorite colors are green and white, and he loves chicken wings. I think Father Peter is very nice, and I learned some great things I didn’t know about him. I’d just like to thank Father Peter for taking time out of his day to meet with me!

As an extension to their unit of study on plants, the third graders have adopted, “Willow,” the neglected tree at the top of the gym stairs.

“People have been disrespecting it,“ said Liam Daughton, third grader. So as a class project, the students are watering the tree on the way to PE class twice a week and are cleaning up the fallen leaves.

Tara Gopal, third grader, created a sign asking all Nativity Students to not harm the tree as they pass by it on the way to the gym. Please help the third graders care for this living thing that God has made by not pulling off its leaves or bending its branches.

The Life of Father PeterBy Lauren Szpylman

Ever wonder what Father Peter likes to do, or what his life was like in Africa, or why he came to the United States and much more? On October 10th, I met with Father Peter after lunch to find out all about him, like how he became a priest and what other job he would’ve had if he didn’t become a priest. In Nigeria, Father Peter learned how to play soccer. He says, “Nigeria was a soccer nation.” He says in Nigeria life was good.He had lots of family and friends around, and it was a much different culture. In Nigeria he spoke a language called Efik; he learned to speak English when he arrived.

He came to the United States in January 2013 around when it was winter. He came to the United States to study to become a priest.

Cross Country Championships

By Addison Barth

Only four days ago was the final cross country meet of the season for the Nativity Warriors. All of the team members Ella Picone, Nicholas Jauch, Caroline Brown, Timothy Cosgrove, Hannah Johnson, Delaney Gradwell, Olivia Rydzewski, Eva DeFazio, Matthew Enright, Patrick Cosgrove, Noah DeAngelis, Nicholas Picone, Patrick Enright, Jermaine Johnson, Kevin Cosgrove, Nicholas Szpylman, Hailee Johnson, Addison Barth, Sam Morreale, Jack Morreale, Patrick Benzer, and Charlie Graber ran their hardest throughout the season. They tackled the challenges of the course at Cazenovia Park each week. When the championships finally arrived, the team was ready and many of their times were personal records. In the end, the boys received first place. A handful of runners even made it to the top ten!

For the boys, there was Patrick Benzer in the first place, Charlie Graber in second, and Nick Picone in eighth. The girls, however, had only one racer push through to the top, Hailee Johnson, in ninth place. The runners had an amazing season and can’t wait until next year!

Extra Innings for Varsity Baseball

Playoff Game On Friday October 11th, a beautiful, sunny afternoon, the Nativity Varsity baseball team played against OLV/SJV in a playoff game. Despite their best efforts, the team lost in extra innings. Luke Schaller stepped on the mound and threw constantly for over six innings and struck out 10 batters. Kevin Cosgrove played catcher for the whole game, making some nice plays behind the plate. Jack Cullinan mostly played second base, having some key plays fielding and tossing it to first base with ease. Jermaine Johnson, Logan Radloff, and Kyle Burkhard played in the outfield and made some good catches. Jordan Rivera, Matt Schaller, Patrick Cosgrove, and Matthew Enright all played well in the infield. Kevin Cosgrove had a double in the first and sixth innings and crossed home plate twice. Luke Schaller had two hits during the game and crossed home plate twice. Both coaches, Dr. Santillo and Dr. Cosgrove, coached a strategy filled game and the team just came up short.

Nativity Sports

A Great Soccer PlayerBy Noah Wisniewski

One great soccer player is Lionel Messi. He was born on June 24, 1987 in Argentina. Messi started playing soccer for F.C. Barcelona at age 13. Messi plays in the Spanish league (La Liga) for F.C. Barcelona, and in the world cup he plays for Argentina. Messi has a growth hormone deficiency, but that didn’t stop him from winning 6 golden boots, and he’s won 4 champions league awards. Messi has won 10 in the La Liga, and in the Copa del Rey Messi has won 6 awards. Some people consider Messi better than Ronaldo and some consider him the best ever.

God in heaven. For the Christian, death was not to be feared, but represented the opportunity for Everlasting Life. The night before All Saints Day now became recognized as “All Hallows Eve.” (“Hallow” means “Holy,” and the Saints are “Holy.”) Eventually the three words were combined into “Halloween.”

Today, the celebration of Halloween takes on various meanings for different people, not all of them physically and spiritually healthy. Unfortunately, for some this day has become associated with dangerous (violent) pranks and even occasion to have recourse to “evil spirits” in some ways. (To quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 2116, “All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future.) For us as Christians, we want to keep our focus on that which is in accordance with our beliefs.

So, have a safe and holy Halloween! God bless you all!

Broadway Musicals Leaving Broadway

By Amelia Lazzara

A lot of Broadway musicals are leaving Broadway. A few of the popular shows leaving are Waitress, Be More Chill, and Prom. The reason for this is debt. Broadway investors are set to lose over one-hundred million dollars. Although over 1.5 billion theater goers attend Broadway performances annually, shows are still losing money. This means that there are too many shows. Productions need to pay for utilities, the workers, the actors and actresses, and so on. They make the most money through ticket sales. So, in conclusion, that is why so many Broadway shows are leaving.Saint of the Week provided by Mrs. Esack

I want to share with you a few thoughts about this day from a Christian perspective. Originally the pagan Celts in England and Ireland celebrated New Year’s Day on November 1. Therefore, October 31 was an “end of the year” celebration in which the pagans believed that on this night the dead came back to be with the living. The return of the dead was something to be feared; thus, the villagers wore masks and costumes to disguise themselves to lead the “ghosts” out of town.

In response to this pagan feast, the Church introduced the Feast of All Saints Day on November 1, rejoicing that those who followed Christ faithfully in this life were now happy with
