Mathematics: This week would usually be an assessment week. I will include some of the

basic skills children will need to work on in order to access the Y4 curriculum, these will be

areas we have already covered, but are important in moving forward.

The Learning Objectives are:

Count from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100

Count up and down in decimal tenths including where boundaries are crossed, e.g. 3.6,

3.7, 3.8, 3.9 4, 4.1, 4.2 etc.

Read and write numbers with one decimal place

Identify the value of each digit to one decimal place in a variety of ways e.g. the value of

the digit 7 in 53.7 is seven tenths. Can be represented as a decimal/fraction or in words.

Higher, Faster, Stronger

Creative Curriculum- we usually cover two subjects per afternoon. This is our normal timetable. Spanish: This week we would be continuing Los deportes y las aficiones. Have a go at applying the vocabulary leanred using “create” (E9) and watching the role play video (E14). The games and activities are under the 2Do section on Purple Mash. R.E: This week we would continue our unit of work on rules, looking at Islam. Look at the 5 pillars of Islam, focussing in particular on Shahada, Zakat and Sawm, as Salat and Hajj are covered in other units of work. Can children explain why these pillars are important to the life of a Muslim? Can they explain how the pillars are similar or different to rules in other faiths we have studied? PE: At the end of the year we would be revisiting techniques looked at previously. We would be looking at throwing technique this week: Standing straight with the ball in your throwing hand, facing the target. Turn 90o to your target and keep your feet shoulder width apart. Point your non-throwing arm at your target and shift your weight to your back foot. Lift your throwing arm so the ball is near your ear. In one motion, drop your non-throwing arm, twist your torso and release the ball high! Can you improve your accuracy or distance?

Computing: This half term in computing we are combining our email unit and E-safety unit. I will be setting some response tasks on Purple Mash using 2Email, and there are many that children can choose for themselves, including lots of sports stars or book characters.

Music: Children can access the YUMU website here: https://www.lancashiremusichub.co.uk/yumu and have been allocated their own usernames and passwords, which have been emailed via purple mash. Children can access listening and responding activities and games linked to the units of work we have covered this year in class.

History: The Ancient Greek Country was made up of several states who often fought wars together. Occasionally they got together and fought against another country. The most famous of these was the war against the Persians. Topic The Paralympic Games are a competition very similar to the Olympic games where athletes with different disabilities compete against each other in various sports. They are very popular s it is exciting to see athletes overcome their disabilities to try their hardest to win. The Paralympics began after World War II when a group of veterans who had been injured during the war took part in games alongside the Olympic Games. Art: The Ancient Greek Warships were called Triremes. Have a look at the picture below or research them on the internet and see if you can draw your own Ancient Greek Warship.

English: Our next unit of work is a narrative unit based on Ancient Greek Myths.

Following the model read at the beginning of the unit, children create their plan using their story maps and the outline plot pattern created during the gathering content phase.

Use shared writing techniques to model a section at a time with children. Focus on skills – creating complex sentences (using before, when, after, if, because, that) with simile starters e.g. Quick as a flash, before he could be stopped, Zeus raised his gleaming, dangerous lightning bolt...

Children follow the modelling each day from the shared tasks and use their own plan from last week to inform and shape their writing.

Use shared reading and evaluation to adjust shared writing focus daily.

Model the editing and improving process. Support children in suggesting changes to grammar, vocabulary and punctuation in order to enhance effects and clarify meaning.
