 High Uric Acid Levels?

Do you have high uric acid levels in your    blood? If so then there are chances that if it goes unchecked you might end up suffering from Gout. Gout is a disease that affects the joints .This disease in earlier days was also called as the ?disease of the kings ?because it was associated with overindulgence in drinks and rich food.

But it is not so nowadays, it can strike anyone; men being more at risk than women.

What is uric acid? How does uric acid levels increase in our blood and what precautions can be taken to avoid it? Uric acid is a waste product in our body and is eliminated by our kidneys. Uric acid is produced from the breakdown of a certain kind of a substance known as purine. This substance also produced in our body and is also present in some of the food that we eat. Uric Acid increases due to mainly three conditions? firstly if there is an over production of uric acid in our body(some situations like fasting, strenuous exercising and crash dieting)., secondly if there is a decreased removal of uric acid by the kidneys; thirdly if one takes excess amounts of food which are high in purine.

Foods high in purines which should be avoided by those who are having levels of uric acid are ? quite a few of the non vegetarian food, lentils (dals), whole grains, peas, cauliflower, and mushroom. Alcohol intake slows down the removal of uric acid. Being overweight also adds to the increased levels. A simple blood test (serum uric acid) at a local lab can be good enough for an evaluation.

What is Gout and how does a high level of uric acid in blood lead to gout? Gout is an inflammatory condition of the joint .Gout results in an inflammation of the joint. This is due deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint spaces and or in the connective tissue of the joints. It is a very painful condition causing swelling redness heat pain and stiffness of the joint. Deposits of uric acid, called tophi can appear as lumps under the skin around the joints. Gout mainly affects the big toe but it can affect other joints like gout instep, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows

Increased uric acid is not a disease and by itself is not dangerous. However, if excess uric acid levels lead to formation of crystals between the joints, gout can develop. In some individuals excess levels also lead to formation of kidney stones. Please remember not all who have high levels of uric acid, develop gout.

Homoeopathic medicines can be a big boon for all those who suffer from high uric acid. These medicines work by reducing the uric acid?s overproduction by the body and accelerating the removal of this waste product from through the kidneys. Homoeopathic medicine Benzoic acid, Pulsatilla, lycopodium and Urtica Urens lead the homoeopathic table in curing the increased levels of uric acid. Another medicine that requires a special

mention is Berberis Vulgaris. It is used when kidney stones form due to high levels of uric acid.. Gout is also very effectively treated by homoeopathy. Ledum pal, colchicum, Benzoic Acid, Bryonia and Formica Rufa are very effective in treating gout. One big advantage that homoeopathy offers in the treatment of high uric acid is that once treated the relapse will not occur. This is also subjected to the condition that diet and Alcohol and weight are well controlled.

Lemon Juice for Uric Acid: Lemon Benefits for Lowering Uric Acid Level

Question:

If I take lemon juice with honey, every morning, can I control high levels of uric acid?

Answer:

Is lemon juice beneficial for lowering uric acid levels?

Dietary guidelines for the management of elevated levels of uric acid:

Eat a diet that is low in purines. Foods that provide large amounts of purines are – fish, such as: herring, mackerel, and anchovies, organ meats, yeast, legumes, poultry, spinach and asparagus.

Stay away from them. Eggs, whole grains, olives and nuts can be had in moderate quantities.

If you are over weight, try to achieve an ideal body weight. Reduce the protein intake and reduce the fat intake, since these foods are

invariably high in purines. Drink plenty of water and fluids through the day, as water helps dilute the urine

and excrete uric acid quickly.

Page 7: High Uric Acid Levels

A minimum of 2 liters of water per day is recommended.

Banish – refined white flour, white sugar, processed foods, and simple sugars from the diet, totally. These foods decrease uric acid excretion from the body, and could trigger an attack of gout.

Consume whole grains and cereals – rice, wheat, oats, millets, etc.

they provide complex carbohydrates, and are good for you.

Yes, you can continue to have lime and honey. But, making these other dietary changes is a must to keep the levels of uric acid in check.

Ajowan (Carum ajowan): In the Middle East, ajowan water is often used for diarrhoea and wind and in India the seeds are a home remedy for indigestion and asthma.  For reasons of both flavor and practicality its natural affinity is with starchy foods and legumes.  Because of its thymol content, it is a strong germicide, anti-spasmodic, fungicide, and anthelmintic.  Regular use of Ajwain leaves seems to prevent kidney stone formation.   It also has aphrodisiac properties and the Ananga Ranga prescribes it for increasing the enjoyment of a husband in the flower of his life           Ajwain is very useful in alleviating spasmodic pains of the stomach and intestines, in adults as well as children. Any colicky pain due to flatulence (gas), indigestion and infections in the intestines can easily be relieved by taking one teaspoonful of ajwain along with 2-3 pinches of common salt in warm water. Use half the dose in children. Mixed with buttermilk it is a good anti-acidic agent          For chronic bronchitis and asthma, mix ajwain with jaggery (gur). Heat the mixture to make a paste and take 2 teaspoonsful twice a day. However, diabetics should not take this preparation because of the sugar content. It helps to bring out the mucus easily. It also helps in chronic cold.          In an acute attack of common cold or migraine headache, put ajwain powder in a thin cloth and smell this frequently. It gives tremendous symptomatic relief according to some Ayurvedic experts.         If people who consume excessive alcohol develop discomfort in the stomach, taking ajwain twice a day, will be very useful. It will also reduce the craving and desire for alcohol.

Reducing Uric Acid with Low Uric Acid Diet

Please advice which foods reduce uric acid in blood? Are cherries helpful in reducing uric acid ? Kindly list the foodstuffs which are helpful for uric acid reduction.

High uric acid levels in the blood stream can lead to a common form of arthritis called gout.

Page 8: High Uric Acid Levels

To prevent gout, it is essential to maintain good eating habits and have proper medication. To reduce the uric acid levels in blood, you may need to limit intake of alcohol and reduce purine rich foods. Digestion of purine leads to the formation of uric acid. If uric acid is not eliminated normally which is seen in gout sufferers, it can build up in the blood stream leading to joint inflammation and pain.

Uric acid diet Measures for how to reduce uric acid in diet And Uric Acid Foods that help reducing uric acid levels:

Tofu which is made from soybean is a good choice than animal foods. Tofu can alter the plasma protein concentration and increase uric acid clearance and excretion.

Uric acid level in the body can be reduced by cutting down the foods that contain high amount of purines. Foods with high purine content include anchovies, broth, roe, sardines, yeast, sweetbread and mincemeat. Avoid these foods totally. Some foods have moderate purine content like fish, lentils, asparagus, mushrooms, spinach and shellfish.

One serving of meat, fish or fowl or one serving of vegetable is allowed daily. Foods low in purine are fruits, olive, vinegar, cereal and cereal products, vinegar and rice. These foods can be consumed daily.

Have foods that are relatively high in carbohydrates, moderate in protein and low in fat. Complex carbohydrates like whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables contain fiber that can help in proper digestion of the foods and assimilation of the nutrients. Fiber can avoid excessive build up of the uric acid.

Reduce the intake of protein rich foods to 15 percent. Prefer soybean that has been defatted, lean meat and sprouts  that provide good quality protein but low fat content.

Fresh fruits like apples, bananas, oranges and lime are beneficial. Cherries are considered to be beneficial in reducing uric acid levels. You can have juice of black cherry which is also called as sour cherry.

Cherries contain certain natural chemicals that can lower uric acid levels and reduce inflammation.

Excess of alcohol can increase the uric acid production. Preferably avoid the consumption of alcohol.

Drink plenty of water or fluids (3 liters/day) like fresh juices or soups that can help in excretion of uric acid.

Page 9: High Uric Acid Levels

Certain guidelines that can be helpful in reducing uric acid levels are:

Maintain an ideal body weight. Gradual weight loss is beneficial rather than drastic loss weight. You can reduce your body weight by dietary modifications and exercise.

You can consult a doctor who can help you in reducing uric acid levels. Get the uric acid levels checked regularly.

Uric acid is produced by the body when substances called purines are broken down. Purines are present in many different foods. High levels of uric acid in blood constitute a condition known as hyperuricemia. Some individuals with high uric acid levels may develop health problems such as kidney stones or gout. Normal levels of uric acid range between 3.4 and 7.0 mg/dL for men and 2.4 and 6.0 mg/dL for women. There are many factors that lead to increased levels of uric acid in blood and urine. Uric acid levels rise when uric acid production increases or when its removal from the body through the urine does not take place properly. Increased amounts of uric acid in blood samples are usually associated with excessive consumption of high purine foods. Increased consumption of caffeine and alcohol can also cause uric acid levels to increase. Other causes of high uric acid levels include medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, lymphoma, leukemia, and the intake of certain medications that suppress the immune system. In some cases, the tendency to develop high uric acid levels may also be inherited. Dietary changes are often recommended for those with high uric acid levels. A uric acid diet is low in purine foods and hence helps to regulate uric acid levels in the body.

Gout is one of the most common conditions caused by excessively high levels of uric acid in the blood. It occurs when uric acid crystals are deposited in the joints of the body. It usually affects the toes and causes inflammation. There may also be swelling, tenderness and warmth in the affected joints. A low uric acid diet is usually prescribed for those suffering from gout. Kidney stones may also form due to high uric acid levels. This can lead to pain in lower back and abdomen and discomfort while urinating.

In most cases, a special diet for uric acid helps to control the condition. Food such as red meat, organ meat and certain seafood should be eliminated from the diet. There are even some vegetables such as asparagus, mushrooms, spinach and cauliflower which have high levels of purines and hence must be avoided. It is also essential to increase vitamin C intake in order to boost immunity. Excess amounts of uric acid can also be flushed out from the body by drinking plenty of water.

Protein rich foods, sugary foods and alcohol are part of a high uric acid diet and hence must be strictly avoided. Alcohol can lead to an aggravation of gout. Protein sources such as poultry, eggs and fish are also high in purines and the consumption of these foods must be restricted. Sugary foods such as cakes and cookies as well as soft drinks can aggravate gout attacks. Even fruits rich in fructose such as oranges can contribute to joint pain.

Page 10: High Uric Acid Levels

Treatment for high levels of uric acid in the blood may also include drug therapy which helps the body to either restrict the production of uric acid or excrete a greater amount of uric acid.

Uric acid is a chemical, created in the body by the breaking down of substances known as purines. It is flushed out of the body by the kidneys, through urine, after it dissolves in the blood. If it is not flushed out of the body properly, high levels of uric acid gets accumulated which causes ailments like gout and kidney diseases. High uric acid levels in the body, is known as 'hyperuricemia' and it may also worsen conditions like diabetes, leukemia and hypertension. Hyperuricemia is usually caused due to the regular intake of purine rich foods and conditions such as hypoparathyroidism, lead poisoning, renal failure and side effects of chemotherapy.

Uric Acid Reduction DietDiet plays an important role in maintaining the level of uric acid in the body. High levels of uric acid in the body can be reduced by consuming certain foods and reducing or completely avoiding purine rich foods. Uric acid reduction diet can also help reduce the risk of developing arthritis, gout and kidney disorders that are caused due to hyperuricemia.

What to EatUric acid reduction diet should consist of foods that are rich in potassium like potatoes, avocados, dried peaches, orange juice, apples, bananas, skimmed milk and yogurt, kidney beans, yam, etc. It is usually advised, that the diet for reduction of uric acid should contain foods rich in complex protein like tofu, berries, bananas, tea, celery, parsley, cabbage and tomatoes. Foods like eggs, butter, cheese, corn, gelatin, peanut butter, tart cherries, vinegar, etc. that are low in purines and protein, should essentially be a part of the diet of those suffering from hyperuricemia. Products like rice, pasta, whole wheat breads and cereals should be regularly consumed. Foods rich in bromelain and vitamin C

Page 11: High Uric Acid Levels

like pineapples, red cabbage and red bell peppers can also be very effective in reducing uric acid. Soy products, lemon juice and fibrous foods, chocolate and carbonated beverages help in natural uric acid reduction. Fatty acids found in salmon, olive oil, flax, nuts, etc. may also be very beneficial to reduce uric acid levels. Plenty of water should be consumed to ensure elimination of uric acid through urine.

What Not to EatWhile following a diet for the reduction of uric acid, foods that are extremely high and moderately high in purines and protein, especially some kinds of meat and seafood, should be strictly eliminated. Foods extremely high in purines and protein would include foods like yeast, pork, lamb, shrimps, anchovies, hearts, mussels, sardines, organ meats such as kidneys, liver and sweetbreads, etc. Those moderately high in purines and proteins include mushrooms, spinach, cauliflower, dried beans, peas, asparagus, turkey, goose, chicken, oatmeal, chicken, bacon, etc. Alcohol, especially beer and soft drinks should be avoided completely, when consuming uric acid reduction diet. It increases the levels of uric acid in the body, thus hindering the process of uric acid reduction.

All in all, uric acid reduction diet should be low in proteins and purines and high in potassium and complex carbohydrates. It is also essential to maintain a moderate body weight for the reduction of uric acid in the body. The diet, along with medication and exercise, should be able to successfully lower uric acid levels in the body.

The management of gout is strictly through diet and food prescriptions.

Follow these guidelines stringently:

• Incorporate lots of fluids in the diet. Drink a minimum of 3 and ½ liters of water.

• Alcohol is a complete no – no. it precipitates an attack of gout.

• Avoid the following foods altogether – herring, mackerel, anchovies, organ meat, sardine, sea food, shellfish, and spinach.

• Legumes can be consumed in moderation. About 1 bowl twice a week.

• Keep fat intake at a minimum.

• Cherries are the best food prescription for gout. They have the potential to inhibit the formation of uric acid and consequently stave of an attack of gout.

Homoeopathy treats gout effectively

Hyperuricaemia is the presence of increased levels of uric acid in the blood. Hyperuricaemia leads to gout, which is a type of arthritis, occurring due to uric acid crystals, which get deposited in the joints causing severe pain and inflammation.Of course, you ought to stop alcohol.Alcohol is the biggest enemy, which could precipitate an attack of gout.

Dietary do’s and don’ts:o Eat a diet that is low in purines. That means avoid these: anchovies, herring, mackerel, sardines, organ meats, mushrooms, shellfish, spinach, poultry, and dried peas.o Eggs, fruits, nuts, olives can be eaten in moderation.o Eliminate alcohol completely.o Low fat intake is recommendedo Drink plenty of water. This keeps the urine diluted and promotes the excretion of uric acid.

Food prescription:Consume loads of cherries.Cherries are highly effective in lowering serum uric acid levels. They also prevent an episode of gout from occurring. The flavanoid content in cherries is very high and this helps avert hyperuricaemia.

HOW TO USE CELERY SEEDS TO RELIEVE YOUR GOUT PAIN

First off, the seeds you use shouldn't be the seeds you get for cultivation as these are likely to have been treated with a fungicide. You need to use celery seeds from a herbalist or health food shop which are for consumption.

The preparation is rather simple...

(1) Put 1 tablespoon of celery seeds into 2 cups of water and boil until the seeds are soft. (2) Strain the seeds from the mixture and dispose of them, leaving only the hot 'tea' left. (3) Drink a half a cup of the celery seed tea four times a day until your gout symptoms have abated.

Celery Seed Tea RecipeTo prepare celery tea take one cup of water and boil it. Crush the celery seeds and use one tsp. of the crushed seeds for 1 cup of water. Put these in a measuring cup and pour

boiling water over them. Let the celery seeds steep for about 20 minutes or less as you wish to have the tea strong or mild. Now steep the tea into a mug through a strainer. Drinking this tea at least once a day, thrice a week is known to be very beneficial for health. Read more about celery juice benefits.

How to Use Flax SeedBy Rudy Silva Article Word Count: 383 [View Summary] Comments (0)

You can eat whole flax seeds but you need to chew them good to break them up. Your stomach will not dissolve whole flax seeds and many of them will come out in your stools. Chew about a tablespoon in the morning. Then drink 8 oz of water. Make sure if you chew flax seeds that you drink water since the seeds expand and become gelatinous.

There are brown and golden colored flax seeds. The golden cost more but there is not difference in their nutritional value.

You can grind them up in a grinder and add them to your smoothies. It is best not to use them in any cooking recipes. Heat destroys the value of the flax oil and makes it toxic.

I don't recommend you buy ground up flax seeds as found on websites or in health food stores. Once you grind your flax seeds, you need to use them in your drinks or food soon after grinding so they don't lose their nutritive value.

Even though Nutri Flax, ground up flax seed, is packaged so the flax seeds don't see light or oxygen, what happens when you open the package? These flax seeds are going to be exposed to oxygen and light and as time passes they will become oxidized.

It only takes 10 to 15 minutes in light and oxygen for the ground up flax seeds to become oxidized and lose it nutritive value.

So if you decided to use pre-grounded flax seed like it Nutri Flax, store it in your refrigerator immediately after it is opened and used to minimize its oxidation.

Flax seeds are composed of,

· 41% fat - fifty seven % is omega 3 · 18 % is monounsaturated · 16% is omega 6 · 9% is saturated · 20% is protein · 7% is moisture

Daily requirements of the essential fatty acids

Daily most people require up to 3-6 grams of linoleic - omega-6 fatty acid And 1.5-3 grams of linolenic - omega-3 fatty acid

For treatment of specific diseases, increase amounts of these fatty acids are required. The actual amounts will depend on the type of illness, the health of the individual, and the diet that they eat. A guideline to the amount needed is,

. Linoleic - omega-6 (9-30 grams per day)

. Linolenic - omega-3 (6 grams per day)

Celery seedOverview:

Celery seed is not well-known in Western herbal medicine, although it has been used medicinally for thousands of years in other parts of the world. During ancient times, Ayurvedic medicine used celery seed to treat colds, flu, water retention, poor digestion, various types of arthritis, and certain diseases of the liver and spleen.

Today, celery seed is used primarily as a diuretic (increasing urine output to help the body get rid of excess water). Celery seed is also suggested for treating arthritis and gout, and to help reduce muscle spasms, calm the nerves, and reduce inflammation. However, there are no scientific studies in humans that show whether celery seed is effective for

Page 19: High Uric Acid Levels

these conditions or any others. Studies do show that celery seeds act as a mosquito repellent.

A few animal studies suggest that celery seed extracts may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as protect the liver from damaging substances such as the pain reliever acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Preliminary animal studies also show that celery seed may help prevent the formation of cancerous tumors in mice. In humans, researchers have found that people who eat a diet rich in lutein (from celery, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, oranges, carrots, and greens) were significantly less likely to develop colorectal cancer. However, celery was just one part of their diet, and no one knows whether the effect is due to celery, another food, or some combination of foods.

Plant Description:

The celery plant is slender and stands about 2 - 3 feet tall. It has 3 - 5 segmented leaves and flowers with small white petals. Celery seeds, which are found in the flowers, are very small, tan to dark brown, and have a strong, pleasant smell.

What's It Made Of?:

Celery seeds contain several substances including volatile oils, flavonoids (plant pigments with antioxidant effects that may protect cells from damage), coumarins (chemical compounds that help thin the blood), and linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid).

Available Forms:

Fresh or dried seeds Tablets Capsules filled with celery seed oil Celery seed extract

How to Take It:

Pediatric

There are no known scientific reports on the use of celery seed in children, so it is not recommended for children under 18.

Adult

Celery seed oil capsules or tablets: 1 - 2 capsules or tablets 3 times a day, as directed by your health care provider.

Page 20: High Uric Acid Levels

Celery seed extract: 1/4 to 1/2 tsp 3 times a day, or as directed by your health care provider. (Always take with plenty of juice or with water at mealtime, unless instructed otherwise.)

Whole celery seeds: Prepare a tea by pouring one cup boiling water over one teaspoon (1 - 3 g) of freshly crushed seeds. Steep for 10 - 20 minutes before straining and drinking. Drink 3 times a day.

Precautions:

The use of herbs is a time-honored approach to strengthening the body and treating disease. Herbs, however, can trigger side effects and can interact with other herbs, supplements, or medications. For these reasons, you should take herbs with care, under the supervision of a health care provider.

Pregnant women should not use celery seed because it may lead to uterine bleeding and muscle contractions in the uterus, which could cause miscarriage.

People with active kidney inflammation should also avoid this herb.

Some people who are allergic to birch pollen may also be allergic to celery seed.

Active compounds in celery stems and seeds can cause the skin to become highly sensitive to the sun's UV rays (called photodermatitis). For this reason, people taking celery seed should use sunscreen or sunblock lotions.

Celery seeds should not be taken from a garden packet, because these seeds have usually been treated with chemicals and should not be taken internally.

Possible Interactions:

It is not known whether celery seed interacts with other herbs and medications. However, people who take the following medications should avoid celery seed:

Diuretics (water pills) -- Celery seed also has diuretic properties and could make the effects of these medications stronger, resulting in dehydration. If you take prescription diuretics, talk to your doctor before taking celery seed.

Anticoagulants (blood-thinning medications) -- Celery contains chemicals that may thin the blood and make the effects of these medications stronger, which could increase the risk of excessive bleeding. Do not take celery seed if you also take prescription anticoagulants such as warfarin (Coumadin).

Alternative Names:

Apium graveolens

Celery seed is a spice that can be used medicinally as well as provide flavoring to foods. The seeds are very small and range in color from light to dark brown. The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) explains that in non-Western cultures, celery seed is used a dietary supplement to reduce inflammation and to combat water retention. The seeds can be crushed and steeped to make tea.

1. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, celery seeds have been used medicinally for a wide range of complaints for thousands of years. Although modern science hasn't confirmed most of the claims herbalists make about celery seed or celery seed tea, many patients swear by this traditional remedy.

Purchase celery seed tea from a health food store or make your own. Purchase whole celery seeds from a health food or alternative medicine store; never use garden seeds, since they are often treated with chemicals. Place 1 tsp. of celery seeds in a mug and pour 1 cup of boiling water over them. Allow the tea to steep for 10 to 20 minutes and then strain it. Drink this tea up to three times a day.

Mosquito Repellant

2. Celery seed has long been used as a mosquito repellent, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. It is commonly found in commercial all-natural or organic bug sprays.

Diuretic and Decreased Inflammation and Swelling

3. Herbalists often use celery seed tea as a diuretic, increasing the body's urine output. This, in turn, can aid edema (swelling) and flushes the body of toxins. Celery seed tea is also thought by herbalists to reduce inflammation due to arthritis and gout, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, although there are no human-based, scientific studies to support this idea.

Kidney Stones and Chronic Kidney Problems

4. Because celery seed tea increases urination, it's often used to aid chronic kidney problems, including kidney stones, states Deepdown Wellness Chiropractic and Natural Health. Celery seed is rich in potassium and naturally occurring sodium, which helps cleanse the body of waste in the kidneys and bowels and reduces uric acid in the body.

Lower Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

5. Researchers at the University of Chicago Medical Center have found that animals treated with celery seed extract experience lowered blood pressure and cholesterol. Some herbalists suggest daily intake of celery seed tea for lowering both.

Purines induce the production of uric acid in the body. The more purines that are consumed the more uric acid is produced. Some foods have high levels of uric acid within them in addition to the high amount of purines. By maintaining a minute level of purines in the body, your kidneys should be able to filter the uric acid and keep your body from having to deal with the pain of a gout attack.

Here are some foods that are high in uric acid levels. It is important that you avoid the foods that have the highest amount of uric acid per 100g, as you could be setting yourself up for some serious pain in the future. Consuming the foods with the most uric acid per mg can cause you to have a painful flare up with gout.

Uric acid levels are measured per 100g of food

Sheep spleen – 773 mg Brewers yeast – 1810 mg Tuna fish – 257mg Mungo bean seed – 222mg Anchovy – 239mg Soybean seed – 190mg

For the most part, the foods you really should avoid are those that are red meats, shell fish and other high in uric acid and purine.

There are some foods that have been known to be safe to consume on a low uric acid diet, that also seem to work wonders at controlling future attacks of gout. Homeopathy is a different holistic approach in combating all sorts of the diseases no matter how serious they are. The treatment of Homeopathy is the perfect fighting option for the painful disease of the gout too. Homeopathic doses are administered in a subtle amount but the remedies are known to be very effective. Gout patients who are thinking over opting for the treatment of homeopathy need not worry at all. Homeopathy remedies can be started at any time and they won't be needed to give up their conventional treatment for the sake of the homeopathy. Rather they can administer both the types of treatment at the same time.

There are different types of homeopathic medicines for the different illnesses. One of the main homeopathic remedy which can fight against a number of illnesses is Arnica or the Arnica Montana. This is sort of an herb which can relieve the mental and emotional stresses. Because of the healing capability the medicine can put the body in the peaceful calm and balance. It strengthens the way for further healing. Samuel Hahnemann the great fonder of the great treatment option of homeopathy found out the exceptional healing power of Arnica which can be helpful for a whole lot of diseases like the painful conditions of gout, the forgetfulness and even the problem of impotency.

Arnica has magical capacity of healing the inflammation. It has the anti-inflammatory properties that can effectively relieve the pain of the joint inflammation in case of the gout. The medicine Arnica has already become a folk medicine in Europe for the external muscle pain remedy and for treating the internal gout pain. However, the medicine is toxic and nature and that is the reason why it is restricted for the internal use in the realm of homeopathy. Arnica is often called by some other popular names like the Mountain Tobacco, Mountain Daisy or Leopard's Bane.

Arnica, as a homeopathic healing and anti-inflammatory medicine can effectively relieve the pain of the gout. The discomfort and the pain can be fought against with the help of the medicine. Arnica is mainly associated with relieving the injury caused pain but it is helpful in relieving the other types of pain too. If there is intense gout pain in the joint areas that have made the patient difficult to walk then Arnica can be used to relieve the pain. The sore or the bruise-associated pain in the gout problems can also be treated with the magic of Arnica. It can be helpful in the severe and acute pain conditions of the gout. When the patient is in acute pain or redness or swollen skin can be seen in the affected areas, Arnica can be used to treat the problems.

Preparing the Arnica is not that tough for the homeopathic. The homeopathic uses the herb's flowers, leaves, stems and roots to prepare the medicine. For making the medicine the herbs are crushed and then pounded to a pulp. After that it is time to soak the pulp in

Page 30: High Uric Acid Levels

the alcohol. When the herb is totally soaked in the alcohol then herb will lose the toxicity and the solution is then ready as a homeopathy remedy.

Why is Baking Soda so good for Gout?

Baking Soda has been used for relieving the symptoms of Gout for hundreds of years. The condition of Gout is well-known for the high levels of Uric Acid that develop in the blood stream.

Uric Acid is a natural and normal part of our metabolism that is an important and essential Free Radical. It helps to eliminate pathogens and microscopic foreign invaders that cause various illnesses but when it becomes too concentrated, the body deposits it as crystals in a number of different joints throughout the body.

Baking Soda is a natural alkalizing agent and is used for many different medical applications including forms of Metabolic Acidosis like Chronic Renal Failure and Renal Tubular Acidosis. Typically the over-abundance of Uric Acid in the blood is an indication of an over-all condition of Acidosis and the sign that the pH of the body chemistry is down at the acidic levels.

In the event of a Gout Attack, periodically smalls doses of Baking Soda will serve to raise the pH of the body back up to the alkaline levels and also keep the Uric Acid in solution. Additionally, it will dissolve the Uric Acid Crystals that have already formed. It is especially effective when combined with Apple Cider Vinegar or Lemons or Limes.

The medical industry is fully aware of the effectiveness of Sodium Bicarbonate and uses specialized forms of it to neutralize many different acidic conditions. The question that needs to be asked is: "Why don't we use natural alkalizing agents to relieve the Acidosis that causes Gout Attacks instead of using anti-inflammatory drugs and drugs that inhibit the production of Uric Acid?"

So much emphasis is placed on limiting the production of Uric Acid rather than addressing the general Acidosis of the body when plagued with Gout; the corrosive damage and oxidation that is the root cause of so many other degenerative diseases is swept under the rug.

If you're reading this you're probably suffering from gout, or at the very least have suffered from gout in the past. So I don't have to tell you just how excruciating the pain can be. You already know how important it is to find a way of getting rid of the pain as fast as possible.

But the key to that is to truly understand what causes your gout in the first place...

When you are suffering a gout attack the extreme pain and inflammation are caused by needle-like crystals that have formed in your joint(s). These are crystals of urate that can form when you have high levels of uric acid in your bloodstream.

Page 31: High Uric Acid Levels

And you can end up with high uric acid if your kidneys can't remove the excess uric acid that your body normally produces, or, your kidneys are fine, but your body is producing more uric acid than they can handle. In both these scenarios, the outcome is the same; excess uric acid in your body.

You will normally be prescribed drugs to reduce inflammation and relieve the pain. Unfortunately for many sufferers these drugs can have serious side effects, so that gout sufferers are increasingly turning to natural remedies for gout that they can use safely.

Here are 3 top tips for getting rid of gout pain and the crystals that cause them:-

1. Drink At Least 3 Litres of Water Per Day

Even you doctor, whilst they are prescribing drugs for gout pain, will tell you to drink plenty of water. And no wonder, because drinking lots of water keeps you better hydrated, which helps to fight against crystal formation. Water also helps your kidneys to process and flush uric acid from your body.

2. Eat 30 to 40 Cherries Every 4 Hours During a Gout Attack

Research has shown that eating plenty of cherries can reduce the symptoms of a gout attack, including the pain and inflammation. They have natural anti-inflammatory properties, and, they can also help to reduce the uric acid levels in your blood.

3. Use the Baking Soda Home Remedy for Gout

Baking soda has the ability to dissolve uric acid crystals, and, to help your kidneys excrete uric acid more easily. Mix 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a large glass of water. Drink a glass before bed, one in the morning, and one every 2 to 4 hours during the day. Repeat until symptoms have gone. Note: Take no more than 4 teaspoons each day. Change to a salt-free diet while taking it. But don't take if you have hypertension.

These are my top 3 tips for getting rid of gout pain and crystals during an attack.

But you need also to prevent recurring attacks in the future, because these can cause kidney problems as well as permanently damaged joints. This needs a different approach as you need now to consider things like your lifestyle, diet, weight, etc.

When suffering from a gout attack you need to drink a lot of water. But what is a lot? And another thing, what about in between gout attacks?

To answer these questions, it's important to first understand what actually causes gout...

First up, the excruciating symptoms of gout are caused by needle-like crystals that have formed in your joints and surrounding tissue. Now, it's clear that these are formed out of uric acid, but why do they form?

Page 32: High Uric Acid Levels

Urate crystals are created when you have higher than usual levels of uric acid in your blood. And this acid is produced by your body's metabolization process, where chemical compounds called 'purines' break down and form uric acid.

Normally, your kidneys take care of things by processing and excreting the excess acid out of your body via urine. Unfortunately, sometimes they are unable to do this effectively, or, your body is producing too much uric acid for your kidneys to cope with.

So, during a gout attack, you need to do all you can to reduce uric acid levels and disperse the urate crystals as fast as you can. One vital way to do this is to help your kidneys to do their job as efficiently as possible.

And this is where the water remedy for gout comes into play...

The first thing to state is that most of us are generally dehydrated for much of the time. And a dehydrated body is much more prone to gout. So by keeping suitably hydrated we are already reducing the risk of gout a lot. You should drink enough water to stay hydrated every single day of your life.

The other benefits of water in terms of relieving gout symptoms are that... (1) drinking water can help to reduce and even prevent crystal formation in the joints, and, (2) water can aid your kidneys in the process of flushing excess uric acid out of your system.

So how much water should you drink to reduce uric acid in your body?

You should drink at least 3 litres of water every day. Perhaps more in very hot weather. But the thing is not to drink it in big batches, say, 4 or 5 times during the day. You'll get the maximum benefit if you drink less at a time, but more regularly and frequently throughout the day.

I cannot stress enough just how important the regular intake of water is. But, on it's own, water cannot cure your gout, although it is an important component of your overall approach to lower uric acid naturally.

There are many natural remedies to help decrease uric acid and tackle gout, and you should get to know these. And, as well as these, you also need to become familiar with other serious issues that can impact your gout, such as diet, lifestyle issues, weight, family history, medications, and so on.

Gout is very painful! Here you have 11 simple, easy, quick and helpful natural cures for gout. Keep reading for the cures.

Here are a few natural short term fixes to relieve the pain of gout:

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an old solution from the New England area of Northeastern United States. It has been recommended as a fix for colds, headaches, sore throat, and, of course, gout.

Drink 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with at least 3 times as much water. (If you can't buy apple cider vinegar you can try a different naturally processed vinegar.) Traditionally honey is suggested for use with the drink to sweeten it and make it more tasty. However, I recommend that anyone suffering from gout pain avoid honey or other sweeteners. I will explain more about this when explaining about the choice of foods necessary to get rid of it.

Limons, Limes and Lemons

The juices of citrus fruits have been effective in stopping the disease of gout. Use the juice the same way as in the discussion of apple cider vinegar in the paragraph above.

Baking Soda

Some people say to take 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in water, but no more than 4 teaspoons per 24 hours. After the pain is eliminated cut back to limited to than 1 teaspoon per day. Baking soda is used as an old cancer cure and other diseases.

Don't use baking soda within 2 hours of eating a meal or within 1 hour of consuming apple cider vinegar or citrus fruit juice.

Water

Consume lots of water. Use plain water if you are not mixing it with baking soda, apple cider vinegar or citrus fruit.

Bananas

Believe it! Eat nothing but bananas for 3 or more days. Yes, you can do it! I consumed nothing but vegetable juice for exactly 50 days. Bananas have a lot of the mineral potassium. People with gout are almost certainly deficient in potassium. Besides, eating just something that is good for you for 72 hours, will get rid the foods and additives that are not good for you.

Vitamin D

Page 34: High Uric Acid Levels

Vitamin D is the "rediscovered" vitamin that is good for so many of our problems. So get in the sun and push those muscles! The direct sunlight on your sweaty skin will manufacture the natural vitamin D. It is best to avoid the strong mid-day sunlight hours. When you don't have enough sun then try vitamin D tablets.

Exercise

Exercise is beneficial for you, even if you don't have gout. But you knew that already that , didn't you? See the explanation of Vitamin D above.

Spices

Natural spices not only taste good, but additionally are very good for your gout as well. Turmeric, chili (cayenne pepper) and nutmeg are spices that used as natural remedies for gout. They are available in health food and grocery stores. You can use them with food or take them with water. Turmeric and chili are ingredients of curry sauce.

You should avoid chemical "spices" or "flavor enhancers" like MSG (monosodium glutamate or "Ajinomoto") because they are mostly bad for gout sufferers or at best less than satisfactorily tested by long (several generations) use by people who volunteered and then carefully watched and scientifically measured.

Sugar

If you want to be healthy, eliminate all types of sugar or its substitutes. A natural diet tastes good all by itself, so kick your sugar addiction!

Others

Bitter gourd, beets, cabbage and pineapple have been praised as natural remedies for gout.

The Gout Diet

I wrote a different article about the healthy natural diet. It contains much more detail. You can find the article in the cancer section of www.happyhealtnut.com.

With this simple and natural method you can easily cure gout.
