ULYSSES ARMADALE HERITAGE GENERAL MEETING

7th March 2013

Meeting opened 8.10pm. 54 people in attendance Apologies: Don, Mark, Mona, Russell Visitors/prospective new members; Mark, Mick and Janice Arno gave a speech, which included handouts, about the use of the branch website. Secretary: Di Raffle books have all been sold and returned Treasurer’s Report: Dave Carroll , This month has been the introduction of online delivery of newsletters. The current newsletter explains the cost for online delivery at $10 for the year and for those who haven’t got internet access the cost of $2 per issue by request. Members can Pay online as per the Pay online as per the current newsletter or pay cash to the Treasurer. Only those who have paid will receive the next edition. If you received this month’s then obviously your email address is correct, otherwise write it on the sheet provided. We received a cheque for $180 from NATCOM as a refund to the Branch of 50% of the initial joining fee of new members. 12 new members at $15 each. Branch Account $1066.16 Interest Account $1291.06 Cash on hand Quartermaster $20.00 Cash to be banked Quartermaster $458.50 Total monies in Branch Accounts $2835.72 Quartermaster Stock on hand $490.55 Total value money and stock $3326.27

Quartermaster Alby; More caps have arrived and there are some unclaimed shirts that have also arrived. Bruce questioned the advantage of ordering through the quartermaster, as to ordering through the Club. Alby’s response was that there would be a saving on postage. Alby has pocket ID cards available which is an excellent idea for travellers heading to the AGM

4

Ride co-ordinator: Tony; There are no rides planned as yet. Bruce has led three rides recently, Nat and John led a ride to Meckering, there was the ride to Bailup Museum, organized by Fremantle, and Waynes ride to Hutt River Province, details of which can be seen on facebook website. Social Organizer: Robyn On the Website is a list of a few festivals, Aureluen, Fremantle Chilli Festival, Mandurah Crab Festival, Wagin Woolarama, Caravan and Camping, Fairbridge Festival. Saturday afternoon teas for the month of March, until the next General Meeting, will be at Fairbrossen Winery in Carmel Road, Carmel. Robyn requested suggestions for the April coffee venues. Sally introduced the raffle prizes…. President: Alan; The branch will be having their AGM in June. A new secretary will be required. Alan is prepared to step down as president, but will continue if required. Nomination forms will be available at the next general meeting. Mona will not be doing the birthday cakes next year. Di offered to do the cakes, no one objected. The annual Ulysses Odyssey will be at the end of September. Welfare Officer: Josef; Alby has just had a reconstruction on his shoulder and Gerry has injured his shoulder, which will be causing him to leave for the AGM later than planned. General Business. One group of riders will be heading off to the AGM on the Easter weekend. Tony is planning to ride as far as Baledonia, and then home, if anyone is interested in joining him, they are welcome. A trip to Bali is being organized for the middle of next year, by Tony and Martin.

5

There has been complaints on Facebook about rides only being led till lunch time, and then everyone being left to make their own way home, sometimes leaving a person on their own. Some people felt that leading a ride as far as lunch time was enough and that people should organize their trip home with each other at morning teas or lunches. It was suggested that a buddy system for newcomers should be reintroduced again. And that newcomers should be advised to arrive with a full tank of fuel. Clarification of ‘club’ and ‘branch’ was discussed. The Club is the Ulysses Club as a whole, we are a branch, Armadale Heritage Branch. Michelle displayed two jackets she has for sale. Mick introduced himself and his friend, Janice, who is looking for a riding instructor and seeking suggestions. The first group to be heading off to the AGM will be Christine, Di and Josef who will be leaving next Friday. There is a now new 1400cc Guzzi produced , as both cruiser and tourer. March birthday babies are David, Di, Josef, Keith, Laurie, Michelle and Paul. Alan requested new members provide their details to Robyn for emailing newsletters and emergency contacts. Alby informed everyone that age badges must be requested and will be provided by the branch, 60, 70 and 80. Di thanked everyone that had helped, and offered to help, her with her bike and its battery problem, which is no longer a problem. Raffle drawn and cake devoured. Meeting Closed 9.30pm.

PRESIDENTS RAMBLINGS Not much to write about this month but here goes anyway. AGM As you would be aware most of the group who are going to this year’s AGM have now left, the exception being Barry and Ray who are leaving this weekend. Josef, Di and Christine have been gone a while now and although having experienced some electrical problems with Di`s bike, suspension on Christine’s and tyres for both Josef and Christine seem to be having a good ride, they made it through to Tasmania and had a good tour around the island and are now back on the mainland. Jerry and Pamela who were to have gone with the aforementioned group left today (Monday) and are travelling in a cage as Jerry is still having some shoulder problems. The other group who left on Friday being Robyn, Cameron and Ray were accompanied by a few of us out to El Caballo Blanco for breakfast then some travelled on to Southern Cross where a fairly sober night was enjoyed by all due to the lack of alcohol available with it being Good Friday, not a good day to leave but some of us were prepared so it wasn’t so bad. The main thing being all made it that far without any issues and with two trailers in the group that was encouraging. Tony and Terry then carried on the next day as far as Balladonia. That’s it up to today so we will have to wait patiently for updates through the Website and Facebook. I am sure there will be many stories to tell when they get back. WEBSITE As we found at the last meeting this is now up and running and although there isn’t a lot of new information happening it is keeping us up to date with events and it just needs us as a group to feed it. I know I have said it many times before but I would like to again thank the people involved in its development and you the members for your patience while it has dragged on. The worst is now behind us and we move on and hopefully enjoy a trouble free future. BRANCH AGM Our AGM is to be held at the June Meeting and it is time for any of you that wish to be involved in the running of our branch to put your hand up. Forms are available on the Website so if you have any interest, print one off and submit it at this week’s meeting or at our May Meeting. It does involve attending a meeting once a month, again on a Thursday being the one following our General Meeting. Other than that it is quite interesting finding out what goes on in the background and being involved in the organising of our various events.

RIDE PROTOCOL There has been a bit of discussion regarding the way rides are, or in some eyes are not organised. We have decided as a Committee to print some guidelines for members to peruse. These are not intended to be rules as we do not and will not instruct any of you how to conduct your selves whilst riding a motorcycle. So quite simply they are GUIDELINES only. They are just about finalised and will be handed to everyone to look at and comment on. If there are any issues with any part of these guidelines please let us know as this is designed to assist everyone with making our ride days enjoyable and should be a useful tool for new members to come to grips with our activities without getting stressed. SOCIALLY We are now heading into winter, bugger it, and we will start organising some evening activities, i.e. dinners or maybe something really adventurous like ten pin bowling, the trots, maybe another greyhound night. Maybe there is something you might like the idea of, if so let us know and we will try to accommodate it if it fits in with our normal field of activities. One thing we are having trouble with is a venue for a Christmas in July so if anyone has any ideas about that please don’t be shy let us know sooner rather than later. One thing we are going to do is to go on the Hotham Valley Restaurant Train. The downside of this is the cost being $77.00 per person and an extra $24.00 if you take the bus from Armadale which I assume most would. If you are interested it is a 5 course dinner served during a 2.5 hour rail journey through the forest. We haven’t set a date yet as we wanted to get an idea of the level of interest before we did so. NEWSLETTER Hopefully you have received this newsletter by email now and are happy with this method of passing on club news. We would like to hear any feedback good or bad so we can at least try to make adjustments if required. That’s about it for now see you all on Thursday Alan

Birthdays in April are: Mona Sundstrom, Merv Holder

Found on the Refrigerator One Morning : My Dear Wife, You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, being 57 years old, can no

longer satisfy. I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife. Therefore, after

reading this letter, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be

spending the evening with my 18 year old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't

be upset----I shall be home before midnight.

When the man came home late that night, he found the following letter on the dining

room table:

My Dear Husband, I received your letter and thank you for your honesty about my being 57 years old. I would

like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 57 years old. As you know, I am a math teacher at our local college and I would like to inform you that

while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, one of my students, who is

also the assistant. He is young, virile, and like your secretary, is 18 years old. As a successful businessman who has an excellent knowledge of math, you will

understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference: - 18

goes into 57 a lot more times than 57 goes into 18. Therefore, I will not be home until sometime tomorrow.

21 Jun, 2014:Bali ride 2014 Expressions of interest

All Rides and Social Events are listed on our website or use this link to jump directly in.

The Google Calander is no longer running as we are now posting this on the club website.

Our Tail-End-Charlies volunteer to bring up the rear so that we can all be safe, but who looks after the Tail-End-Charlie?

If you mark a corner, then when you move off make sure that Tail-End-Charlie is visible in your mirror until someone else marks a corner. Then it is the new corner marker’s responsibility to keep an eye out for the Tail-End-Charlie.

Look after the one that looks after us!

An SAS Soldier’s Wife Confesses

This came from a Soldier’s wife. It says it all:

I sat, as did millions of other Australians, and watched as the government

Underwent a peaceful transition of power two years ago.

At first, I felt a swell of pride and patriotism while Julia Gillard took her oath

of office .

However, all that pride quickly vanished as I later watched 21 SAS Soldiers In

full dress uniform with rifles, Fire a 21-gun salute to the Prime Minister.

It was then that I realized how far Australia's military had deteriorated..

Every one of them missed the bitch.

Armadale Heritage on Facebook

For those who are on Facebook, I have set up a Group called Heritage Armadale.

This is a closed group and you have to be invited to join in. This is a security issue

so that everyone’s statuses are not open to public scrutiny. Everyone is invited to join and so far we have 35 members who are exchanging ideas and comments,

pictures and life’s stories.

If you are using Facebook and would like to join in just search for “Armadale Heritage” and ask to be added.

The Armadale Club website is starting to take shape once again and can be found at: http://armadaleheritage.ulyssesclub.org/Home.aspx

And the Natcom site can be found at:

Hi WA Branches

I know it is still well over 12 months away but we had to secure the venue for the 2014
