Memories

Times Are ChangingWhether a confirmation, graduation or welcoming a new family member into the home, times are always changing.

Lawn SwingDo you know how to swing? To swing, one must stop work and be still. See God’s creation and how He paints the sky different every day. Swing together with children or friends. What a way to visit!

HC431-12 $1.99

Sparrow on Lilacs SilhouetteIn the early morning of springtime, the emerging sunlight becomes the backdrop for this silhouette. Lilac bushes with swelling buds provide perches for the many sparrows who have weathered the winter.HC242-12 $1.99

The Plow Grandpa’s first plow only cost him $1.00. It was pulled by horses or oxen in the field.HC311-12 $1.99

Kerosene LanternsLanterns were used in the old days. Although electricity makes them unnecessary in the barn, they were used there at one time. Before the power lines were put up in the rural areas, farmers who worked long days, got up early in the morning to milk the cows. If they were up before the sun, these lanterns got them through the darkness and enabled them to do their jobs.HC244-12 $1.99

Windmill and BlossomsThe windmill, framed by the pink crabapple blossoms, attracts the eye. What a sight to see—an engineering marvel!HC234-12 $1.99

Corn Husking Wagon Before WWII, farmers picked corn by hand for hours. Horses pulled the wagons. They were so well-trained that the horses did not need a driver when he was picking the corn. They could tell by where the farmer stood or by what he said that they should move ahead. The bang board on the far-side of the wagon enabled the farmer to bank the ear of corn off of it. Then the ear dropped in the wagon bed. Some men hired out to farmers and earned $1.00 a day.HC312-12 $1.99

Antique SpreaderThis is a very old manure spreader. Farmers use them to clean the barnyard and the barn. The manure is carried in the spreader to fertilize the fields. An apron (seen

hanging beneath the box) revolves through the box thereby moving the manure towards the paddles. The paddles at the rear rotate and fling the manure onto the land. This is much nicer to work with than a shovel.HC313-12 $1.99

Child’s Play

He protects and oversees the other critters on the farm like the chickens and barn cats. He catches the mice that hang around the corn crib or granery. He trees unwanted raccoons and helps the farmer ward off pests like foxes, weasels or coyotes. Besides all of these things he is a faithful friend and companion.HC524-12 $1.99
