Course Work The M.H.A. program requires a total of 49 hours which includes core courses and either field experience or a thesis in the face-to-face format or a thesis or administrative practicum in the executive hybrid model. Principal areas of study include health and disease, sociological, economic, legal and political forces affecting healthcare, and management and organizational behavior with specializations in financial management, human resource management, planning, marketing and data generation, and analysis.

Faculty The School’s award-winning and diverse faculty bring rich experiential and educational depth to the classroom. Faculty conduct research in wide-ranging areas such as veteran’s health, life-course and aging, leadership effectiveness, human resource metrics, health information technology, bioethics, healthcare quality, core competencies, long term care administration, hospital finance, managed-care systems, operational research, public health, health law, health disparities, chronic disease management and Medicaid health plans.

Career Options M.H.A. graduates of both formats generally work in mid-level and senior-level management positions in areas such as operational and strategic management, business development, quality performance management and systems management, among others. Graduates find careers in a variety of settings ranging from acute hospitals, integrated health networks, ambulatory care, specialty services and products organizations, and public and community health organizations.

Why choose Texas State? The M.H.A. enhances the career mobility of students at any stage of their career in healthcare administration. The executive hybrid model, consisting of a majority of online courses with on-campus monthly meetings, is designed for professionals with at least five years experience in the industry. The traditional format of face-to-face, evening courses is geared toward students entering or in the early phase of their healthcare careers. The primary focus of the curriculum is middle to senior-level management.

Texas State’s master of healthcare administration program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) since 1992.
