1.0 PRODUCT OVERVIEW AND FEATURES

1.1 Description

The LB-1000-CM system management module is mounted in the last slot labelled “NM” on the far

right of LB-1000 Headend platform to provide local monitoring and configuration, plus remote

management. The control module has a built-in touch screen TFT display used for local setting of

application modules and for monitoring the LB-1000 status. The touch screen folds into the control

module to save space. LB-1000-CM provides monitoring and configuration through RJ-45 LAN port

using a PC compatible Web graphical user interface (GUI). It also integrates the SNMP protocol and

the SCTE-HMS-MIBs for remote access via standard SNMP agent.

2.0 SAFETY NOTES

Failure to comply with these safety precautions and with the general or specific safety precautions

described elsewhere in the LB-1000 series manual violates the safety standards of the design,

manufacture, and intended use of the device. Lindsay Broadband Inc. assumes no liability for the

customer’s failure to comply with these precautions.

CAUTION: Do not operate the chassis outside of its maximum ratings. Doing so may result in

unsatisfactory performance, unit failure, shortened unit life span, or a safety hazard.

CAUTION: Do not attempt to modify or service any part of this chassis not specifically referred to

as replaceable in this manual. Doing so voids the warranty. Return the chassis to company for

service and repair.

CAUTION: Do not restrict air flow in front of or behind the chassis. The module should be operated

in an ambient environment between -20 and 50ºC (32 and 122ºF).

CAUTION: Store the chassis away from corrosive materials, at a temperature between -40 to 85 ºC

(-40 to 185 ºF), and with no more than 95% humidity, non-condensing.

CAUTION: To avoid damaging the touchscreen LCD, please do not tap it with anything sharp or

apply excessive pressure to it with your fingertips. It is recommended to use fingers when you use

the touch screen LCD.

3.0 APPLICATION MODULE DESCRIPTION

Front Panel

1. Status LED will be green when the power supply module is operating normally and will be

red when there is an alarm.

2. RESET PUSH BUTTON is used to execute the control module reset function.

3. Handle to draw the TFT screen in/out of the module.

4. Handle to draw the module in/out of the chassis.

Rear Panel

5. PIN CONNECTOR for DC power and signals to the chassis backplane, connector type is

male.

6. RJ-45 PORT for Web GUI and SNMP communication.

4.0 INSTALLATION

The network management control module can be installed only in the special slot on the far right of

the front face of the rack. It is inserted into the rack from the front position. When installing the

module, notice that the TFT display is accessible from the front of the control module. Be very careful

when inserting the LB-1000-CM to protect the display from any damage and make sure the module

is installed in place.

1) Gently insert the LB-1000-CM module into right most slot labelled “NM” (Only!) in the

front of the chassis. Be careful to align the metal guide rails on the top and bottom of the

module to the chassis housing.

2) Completely push the LB-1000-CM module into the special slot on the right of the rack.

Ensure that the LB-1000-CM module is reliably connected to the LB-1000-CH rear panel.

On successful connection you will hear two beeps and it will be automatically powered

on. Appropriate Status LED for power supply with light up.

3) Draw the touch screen module out gently using the handle. The touch screen can be

used to monitor and set parameters for different application modules and chassis.

CAUTION: To avoid damaging the touchscreen LCD, please do not tap it with anything sharp or

apply excessive pressure to it with your fingertips. It is recommended to use fingers when you use

the touch screen LCD.

4) Use an Ethernet cable to connect RJ-45 Ethernet port on the rear panel of LB-1000-CM

and your computer and run the SNMP software or launch the Web GUI. Refer to the

software instructions for the detailed operation.

5.0 LB-1000 LOCAL SETTINGS AND TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY

Once the LB-1000-CM is powered up and operating normally, gently draw the touch screen module

out using the handle on the LB-1000-CM front panel. The touch screen can be used to set and

monitor the parameters of the chassis.

5.1 Home Screen Page 1

The startup interface (or home screen) is automatically displayed on the screen as the LB-1000-CM

is powered and operating normally. Tap the Scroll Up and Scroll Down buttons or drag the scroll bar

Up/Down on the touch screen to see the next page of the home screen.

Click on the application modules 1 to 18 to browse through menu options for specific application

module. The selected application module will be highlighted.

Hardware/Software version and Operating temperature of the LB-1000 is displayed on home

screen. The cooling fan status and power supply status can also be monitored.

The home screen can be used to set alarm buzzer ON/OFF and change unit of Optical power

measurement between dBm/mW.

The next page of the home screen allows to perform functions like backup, copy and restore settings

for a specific application module so they can be re-used on a similar module. Screen off time, screen

lock using password and display skin color can also be changed. Network parameters can be

configured. Restart button allows for soft reset of the system.

6.0 WEB NETWORK MANAGEMENT AND SNMP FUNCTIONS

Connect to the Ethernet port with the RJ-45 connector on the rear panel of the LB-1000-CM. Connect

the PC to the Ethernet. The illustration below shows the connection method.

IP: 192.168.0.100, Mask: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.0.1

First, set the IP address of your PC in the same network as the LB-1000-CM.

Open a Web browser and in the address-bar enter 192.168.0.100 and press Enter. Enter the username and password to login the LB-1000-CM Web Management system (as shown

below). The system username and password are “admin” by default.

Once the user has successfully logged in, it will display the Monitor Page or main interface of the

system as shown in the next figure.

The monitor interface or home screen of the LB-1000-CM Web Management displays; Power

Supply status, Temperature of Chassis, Hardware/Software version, Serial # of the LB-1000-CM,

Uptime, Cooling fan status, Menus, and Application Module View.

On the top of the system main interface, application modules are shown. The user can click on the

module that they want to select, and then the information display interface will show the information

of the corresponding module.

Figure 9 is an example of an EDFA application module interface. Press +/- buttons to change the

parameter. User can monitor and control all parameters of the application modules in this interface.

If the application module parameter has an alarm it will be displayed in red font. No alarm, the

parameter will be displayed in green font. The application module slots which are not in use (no

module plugged into the slot) will be shown in gray and cannot selected.

On the left side of the screen, user can select the required menu to enter the corresponding

management system.

Alarms

Click the “Alarms” option on the home page, the Alarm display interface will show the following

screen. Alarm information for corresponding slot number and module is available on this screen.

Ethernet Settings

Click the “Ethernet” option on the home page and it will display the next screen. This page allows

user to make changes to the Network parameters of LB-1000-CM.

Password

Clicking on the “Password” option on the home page lets user change the login password for LB-

1000-CM.

Restore

Restore menu is used for resetting the chassis or application modules to factory default setting.

Select the type of restore you want to perform on the chassis & click “Restore” button.

Backup or Copy Module settings

Backup or Copy menu is used for saving the application modules settings in the LB-1000 memory

and also for copying the settings of an application module over to another similar LB-1000

application module.

Logout

Click on logout to exit the Web GUI.

SNMP Management

Load the provided MIB file into the MIB browser and user can configure it according to the

requirement.

Lindsay Broadband Return Material Authorization Policy

All shipments are to be pre-paid by the sender. No COD’s will be accepted.

A Return Material Authorization (RMA) Number is Required On all Product Returns (Regardless if Product is Being Returned to Repair or credit)

Product Received at the Lindsay Broadband Factory Without an RMA Number will be Returned to Sender

RMA number must be used when returning product for credit or repair. Use of RMA numbers will ensure efficient processing. When returning product to Lindsay Broadband, please follow the simple steps below (in the order that they appear):

RETURNS

1. Fill out the Product Return Authorization Form indicating product information. Repair items do not require original invoice information, but it is helpful to determine warranty eligibility.

2. Contact Lindsay Broadband Inc. Service Department in one of three ways:

• E-mail to: [email protected] (recommended method) Include all of the information from the product Authorization Form, or,

• Fax the Product Authorization Form to 1-705-742-7669 or,

• Call Lindsay Broadband Inc. @ 800-465-7046 Ext 235 / 261 3. After completing Steps 1 & 2, an RMA number will be assigned to you. 4. Securely pack the product and mark the box with your RMA #. If shipping multiple boxes, all boxes should be marked with the

RMA #. The RMA # must be placed near your return address in large, bold print (approximately 2” in height). Please see the address label below as an example of the relative size location of the RMA #.
