[edit] HistoryHDFC Bank was incorporated in 1994 by Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC), India's largest housing finance company. It was among the first companies to receive an 'in principle' approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to set up a bank in the private sector. The Bank started operations as a scheduled commercial bank in January 1995 under the RBI's liberalisation policies.

Times Bank Limited (owned by Bennett, Coleman & Co. / Times Group) was merged with HDFC Bank Ltd., in 2000. This was the first merger of two private banks in India. Shareholders of Times Bank received 1 share of HDFC Bank for every 5.75 shares of Times Bank.

In 2008 HDFC Bank acquired Centurion Bank of Punjab taking its total branches to more than 1,000. The amalgamated bank emerged with a base of about Rs. 1,22,000 crore and net advances of about Rs.89,000 crore. The balance sheet size of the combined entity is more than Rs. 1,63,000 crore.

HDFC Bank deals with three key business segments - Wholesale Banking Services, Retail Banking Services, Treasury. It has entered the banking consortia of over 50 corporates for providing working capital finance, trade services, corporate finance and merchant banking. The Bank's target market ranges from large, blue-chip manufacturing companies in the Indian corp to small & mid-sized corporates and agri-based businesses. For these customers, the Bank provides a wide range of commercial and transactional banking services, including working capital finance, trade services, transactional services, cash management, etc. The bank is also a leading provider of structured solutions, which combine cash management services with vendor and distributor finance for facilitating superior supply chain management for its corporate customers. HDFC Bank has made significant inroads into the banking consortia of a number of leading Indian corporates including multinationals, companies from the domestic business houses and prime public sector companies. Within this business, the bank has three main product areas - Foreign Exchange and Derivatives, Local Currency Money Market & Debt Securities, and Equities. These services are provided through the bank's Treasury team. To comply with statutory reserve requirements, the bank is required to hold 25% of its deposits in government securities. The Treasury business is responsible for managing the returns and market risk on this investment portfolio.

What is a Credit Limit?The 'Credit limit' is the maximum amount you can spend or borrow using your Credit Card. This limit is determined by various personal details like your income, source of income etc. The credit limit is normally raised or lowered depending on your previous years track record in terms of spending and repayment.

Cut it into 4 pieces, cut it especially through the magnetic strip at least once, and return it to us.

Step 3) Surrender the unused Cheque (if any) leaves of your existing account. Step 4) Furnish the proof of address (carry the original for verification)

After the receipt of the Transfer Form along with the supporting documents, your existing

You can apply for a new PIN through any of the following channels:

Call our 24 Hour Customer Care Centre and submit a request by validating your Telephone Identification Number (TIN). In case you have forgotten your TIN, please generate the same on-line by talking to the PhoneBanking Agent and then put in a request for Duplicate PIN.

What should I do if my Debit Card is lost or damaged?

Call Phonebanking:- It is important that you report the loss of your card immediately by calling our 24 Hour Customer Care Centre, where your card will be Hotlisted /Blocked immediately. You can also ask for re-issuance of the ATM/Debit card simultaneously. You can also contact the nearest Branch immediately for hotlisting your card

We have also introduced the facility of Hotlisting / blocking the Debit Cards through Netbanking. If you are registered for NetBanking facility, you can now hotlist / block your Debit Cards on-line and real-time.

I have lost my card and there is unauthorised usage of my debit card. What could be done?

In the case of losing your ATM/Debit card, please hotlist the card immediately by calling

on our Phone Banking Nos If there has been an alleged unauthorized usage of your Debit Card at Point of Sale, please follow the below procedure.

Visit the nearest HDFC Bank Branch and opt for the Zero Liability facility by submitting following documents to enable us to initiate the process of Zero Liability:

1. Original FIR in respect of loss of the Debit Card and the alleged unauthorized transactions

2. A letter on Bank's standard format (available at all branches) disputing the transactions, allegedly carried out on the lost card. Please ensure that the details on this letter of dispute are exactly the same as submitted in the FIR

3. Stamped letter of Indemnity on Bank's standard format (available at all branches). The indemnity needs to be taken on a Rs. 200 Stamp Paper/ or franked for Rs.200.

4. Copy of Passport (in case the transactions have been carried out outside India)

Note / Important:

Zero Liability is applicable only on fraudulent Point of Sale Transactions and not ATM transactions.

Please submit these documents within 21 days of reporting the Loss. Once the documents are received and found in order, a provisional credit,

equivalent to the amount of disputed transactions, will be provided to your Account. However, the funds would be kept on hold till the claim is settled by our Insurers.

This process would take between three to six months and would thus require your patience in the interim and the matter will be followed up diligently by the Bank for an early settlement.

The liability per card is restricted to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh per card. The findings of the Bank's investigation will be final and binding on the customer. Cardholder cannot close the account till the hold funds for the said amount is

released.

In case it is an unsigned card, Zero Liability will not be applicable, the cardholder will be liable for the transaction.

How Do I – add a beneficiary in my account for Funds Transfer?

Beneficiary can be added only after your account has been activated for Third Party Transfer (TPT) facility.Please follow the below mentioned procedure to add a beneficiary.1. Log in to your Net Banking.2. Click on “Third Party Transfer” (top of the web page) 3. Click on "Add a Beneficiary” (on the left side of the menu) 4. Note / Important :

RTGS transactions are available / can be done only between below mentioned timings 9 a.m -- 3.30 p.m from Monday - Friday. 9 a.m -- 12.30 p.m on Saturdays

For all Public Sector Banks, which do not have centralized operations, the credit to beneficiary may take 10 to 15 days.

How Do I – do VISA Money Transfer (NRE/NRO Account Holder)?

How Do I - do Credit Card Payment through NEFT?

To add a beneficiary to transfer funds to other bank accounts / credit cards, please follow the below steps:

1. Access your NetBanking account using your Customer ID and IPIN 2. Click on the option for Third Party Transfer facility (top of the web page) 3. Click on the option ""Add Beneficiary Details"" which is on the left menu 4. Select the appropriate option viz. Transfer within the bank / Transfer to another

bank / Credit Card Payment (Using NEFT) 5. Enter the beneficiary details (i.e. the account number etc. of the third party) before

you transfer funds. The Beneficiary Details will be used to identify the account holder, and thus must include the name as well. You also have the option of entering the e-mail id of the beneficiary. You can register a maximum of 20 beneficiary account numbers.

6. After entering each detail, click on “ADD” button.

7. The beneficiary will be added after 24 hours, after which you can transfer funds to that account.

I am not able to Logon to my NetBanking.

If you currently facing problems in login into your NetBanking with your existing password, we request you to follow the below procedure and points

Try to access your NetBanking account once more with the Customer ID and IPIN provided to you.

Please remember:

IPIN provided to you is case sensitive (e.g., if your IPIN reads as a9dM and you key in as A9Dm, system will disallow access to your NetBanking account and will prompt you to enter the IPIN again).

In case, the IPIN contains "O" (Alphabet) or "0" (number), kindly try interchanging them, as the visual difference between these two characters is very slight.

After 5 consecutive incorrect tries, the NetBanking access gets disabled. This is for security reasons.

If you do not access your NetBanking account for more than 180 days, it gets disabled.

In case, you are still unable to access your NetBanking account or you do not remember your IPIN, you can reset your IPIN online by following the below steps:

(Pre-requisites : You should have a Debit card linked to your Customer Identification Number.)

Step 1) Log on to HDFC BANK NetBanking Step 2) Click on the link "Forgot your IPIN (Password)"Step 3) Type your Customer ID number and click on "Go"Step 4) You will be shown a list of active HDFC BANK ATM / Debit cards that are linked to your Customer IDStep 5) Select any of the linked card (In case you have more than one card) Step 6) Please type your DEBIT PIN & Card Expiry DateStep 7) Enter your new NetBanking Password and re-login.

Alternatively, you can:

Send / submit the attached form, duly filled, to any of our HDFC Bank Branch.Or

Call any of our HDFC Bank Phone Banking numbers along with your valid Telephone Identification Number (TIN) and submit your request for a new IPIN. Or

Visit any of HDFC BANK ATM and submit your request for regenerating your IPIN. Steps to be followed at any HDFC BANK ATM :a. On the Main screen, select "other option" b. On the next screen, select "Register for NetBanking" c. On selection of this option, please confirm the request.

Once your application is received and found to be in order, a NetBanking IPIN will be generated and sent to your address on record within 8 working days. On receipt, you can access your Netbanking Account with your unique Customer ID and IPIN.
