Controlling exposure to occupational hazards is the

    fundamental method of protecting workers.

HAZARD is a potential source of

harm or adverse health effect on

    a person or persons.

    Introduction

Traditionally, Hierarchy of controls has been used as a means of

determining how to implement feasible and effective controls.

    Hierarchy of hazard control

    It involves the physical removal

    of the hazard

    which involves removing

    something that produces a

    hazard and replacing with

    something that does not

    produce a hazard.

    Location of the Investigation

The following project includes an assessment to the

workplace hazards in Muharraq STP and the

recommended solutions to meet the best safety

    practices

There are many hazards observed in the workplace at

Muharraq STP Project. The following table shows

some of these hazardous conditions and theadequate solution for each one using the hierarchy

    hazards control:

    Recommendation

    Proper planning and work execution

All activities shall be carried only with the assistance of

    standby rescue equipment .

All required work permit shall be obtained before

    starting the job

Supervisor shall conduct DAILY TOOLBOX MEETING &

explain the risk involved and control measure to all

    workers.

Workers must be aware of the hazards and safe work

    procedures while working

    Recommendation

All heavy equipment shall be check thoroughly before

work execution as a part of periodical maintenances

    schedule check.

Movement of equipment must be accompanied by

    trained flagman

Only certified operator only operate the equipment( with valid license and 3rd party certificate).

The area must be barricaded and installed warning signs.

All equipment must be inspected and in good working

    condition prior to be use.

    Conclusion

The existence of workplace hazards is almost unpreventable.

The procedures made to maintain the safety and health in

the workplace are of high regards, but the key element in

assuring these procedures are met and complied with is to

assure a tough caring environment to the workers who willfollow these instructions and procedures.

Provision of training and enhancing the safety program by

periodic assessment to the system might help in decreasingthe dangers in workplace and lower the risks of injuries and

losses in human beings and properties.
