City ArtWorks engages trained art instructors to teach their curriculum-based Art After School program. City ArtWorks is a nonprofitarts education organization based in Houston since 1982. Their programs serve approximately 50 elementary and middle schools infive school districts in the greater Houston area.

Teacher Description

Investigate the visual arts through hands-on art making, while learning about various artists, art movements, and art techniques. Time-tested lessons are structures to achieve a creative goal in a fun educational environment. The course content and inspirationalimages change each semester, allowing students to explore art on a continual basis without repetition. Students will work with a rangeof materials and techniques including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

ArtSmart is an early learning program that introduces young children to art by letting their natural creative abilities unfold in a funenvironment. While students explore color, texture, shapes, and different types of art materials, they learn to freely express theirfeeling and ideas through art projects.ArtSmart is designed to help children develop fine motor skills, perceptual thinking, and creative problem solving while building anappreciation of art. DCT-DanceCheerTumbling, formerly known as Danse des Enfants/Vibe Dance & Fitness has been serving the Houston area since 1994in dance,cheer and gymnastics instruction. Our company provides classes on the campuses of 13 preschools and elementary schools. Our instructorscombined possess over 30 yrs. of dance/cheer/tumbling & teaching experience. We strive to educate children in the basic ideas/techniques ofdance/cheer/gymnastics in an environment where children have fun while learning. Camp Einstein was formed in Houston, TX by a group of educators and technology professionals. Our staff is committed to providing a world classcurriculum for children ages 5-12. Our unique curriculum is just as entertaining as it is educational. Active Learning has been teaching children Chess and Game Design for over 17 years! Our experienced instructors make learning funfor students.

Teacher Description

Children of all ages and abilities will be taught the game of chess from experienced tournament players. Lessons are tailored to the abilities of theclass. Beginners will be taught the basics (how the pieces move, the rules, etc. ) while more experienced players will be given problems to solve,lessons in tactics, checkmates, openings, etc. Children will be split into groups by ability if more than 20 children enroll.

Miss Haiguang Jin (Miss Julia), owner of I Love Chinese has taught Chinese in the Houston Area for more than eight years. Shepresently teaches in six preschools inside the loop including Rice, Cathedral House, ST. Paul. In addition, she also has a studiolocated in the Rice Village.

Students learn Chinese in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere through games, songs, movies and role-playing in the classroom. Foryoung children's conversation classes we will be working on greetings, comments and ordering food in the restaurant, etc.

The Monart school of art has been serving Houston for over 8 years. We pride ourselves in teaching free hand drawing with aprogressive and unique step-by-step drawing curriculum. Monart teachers have been trained in the "Monart" methodology, which wasfounded by Ms. Mona Brooks, the author of teaching children how to draw; our core strength is that children learn how to break downany image into simple elements and draw them independently. Along with excellent art skills, they have a passion to teach. They arepatient and work well with all students to help them overcome their difficulties.

Teacher Description

This class was generated because our students' parents recognized that while our students were able to draw things they saw around them or sawan image of, they were unable to illustrate their own stories or different elements of their imagination. Teachers work to introduce students to avariety of styles of writing. Students create their own stories and learn to illustrate to support them. This is a very interactive class where studentsare free to express themselves.

Bayou City Fencing Academy is the oldest and largest fencing facility in Harris County. Our instructors have extensive experience teaching in bothpublic and private schools. They themselves have all been exceptional fencers. Our fencers have won gold medals in local, state and nationaltournaments and have gone on to some of the most prestigious universities with fencing scholarships. We are a member of the United States FencingAssociation and as such have hosted National as well coordinated the Houston NCAA fencing championships and senior and junior Olympics.

Mini Star's focus is on developing skills directed toward the sport/fitness class they are engaging in. The challenge and excitement ofplaying games keeps the learning fun. As they are having fun, the students are introduced to the rules of the sport/fitness class theyare engaged in.

This class will provide fun physical activities involving low impact boot camp exercises. In addition, exercises that will includeteamwork, agility, etc. will be provided so that the kids will be prepared for field day activities scheduled in the school during the SpringSemester.

Crafty Scraps has worked with youth for thelast eight years collaborating with Alief ISD, Houston ISD, Pasadena ISD, The Ronald McDonald House, Lone Star College and daycaressuch as Primrose, Kids R Kids and Child Time. Crafty Scraps goal is to give you more than what's expected by including Science,Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Empowerment into all of our lessons and projects!!!!

American Robotics Academy's mission is to excite, inspire, and motivate young people about the fun, importance and impact of robotics technology intoday's world. We hope to stimulate their imagination and creativity by encouraging them to explore, experience, and express themselves through ourhands-on interactive robotics program. Our classes teach students to understand "how things work" through hands-on activities that demonstrate theprinciples of simple and motorized machines. They gain experience with design and problem solving through the use of gears, motors, wheels andaxles, pulleys and remote control devices. Working in age appropriate teams of three, students learn a variety of ways to design a robot to do thethings they want it to do. They decide and build, as a team, the best design of their robot for the competition to be held at the end of each classsession.

You have gotten a little crazy and possibly even finished our apprenticeship. Are ready to stair-step your way to the top? If so, this is first class foryou to consider. Now you can collaborate with your teammates to prepare an infrared Wireless robot for a variety of activity-based challenges.Students will explore the use of motors, gears, pulleys and IR technology while building Lego Robot Inventions. Each build will be followed by athrilling challenge that illustrates the need for "simpliciity" and the pitfalls of "complexity".

Learn how to sew, stitch, measure and cut fabric. This hands-on class will teach students the basics of working with fabric. Using avariety of fabrics, students will learn various sewing techniques to create dolls, wall hangings, purses, and much more! Each projectwill require two or three sessions to complete.

An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of 4-8 year old students. Students learn torecognize the elements of shape. This program has the progressive curriculum. It is structured to give enough structure to succeed and enoughfreedom to express. The curriculums for the 1st semester will be handed out in the first class. All art work will be placed into their individualportfolios along with a progress report and be handed back at the last class.

Mr. Beekman, a Harvard Faculty teaches this class. He has been playing guitar since the age of 14, and it has become one of his greatest passions inlife (aside from teaching). He has studied music theory and private guitar in college . Also, he’ began building guitars in free time.

This private class will provide the student one on one instruction. The student will develop a love of the guitar by learning how to playdifferent chords, as well as learning music theory. He/she will learn an appreciation of this instrument by learning a variety of genres:rock and roll; children’s songs; jazz, rags and blues; holiday and other popular music. Required: Practice and an instrument at home isrequired. A recital at the completion of each semester will be scheduled. Students must bring their own guitar to class. Also, this classis for both beginners and intermediate.

Children will also have the opportunity toparticipate in a community service project. Project Princess regularly host camps for “The Ronald McDonald House”, “Star of Hope” and select HISDelementary schools.

HCCC’s major emphasis is on objects of art made primarily of craft materials: clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood or found/recycled materials.HCCC offers the community-at-large a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of the handmade through exhibitions, family events,workshops, gallery talks, studio demonstrations, and educational outreach programs.

Teacher Description

Students will create jewelry pieces using traditional and uncommon materials. The class will focus on learning how to make wearable works of art inmetal, beads, wire, and found objects. Students will refine their motor skills while practicing basic metalsmithing and jewelry making techniques.

JumpBunch has been keeping kids fit in Houston for 14 years andhas provided the unique program in over 100 private and public schools in 7 districts. All instructors and staff are CPR certified, have no criminalbackground have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children. The owner, Cindy Taylor, is the managing director. Before Cindy startedJumpBunch in Houston, she was the Director of Sales for Clear Channel communications and has over 25 years of sales, marketing and teachingexperience. Cindy has a Bachelor’s degree from Emerson College in Boston, MA.

JumpBunch is a sports and fitness class for kids in Elementary School. We introduce NEW and EXCITING sports and fitness activities each week!In addition to just having fun, we will work with the children to build confidence, coordination and to help instill healthy physical habits early. We usea hands-on approach with age-appropriate equipment. The children have a chance to see, touch and experience each sport. We will work oneye/hand coordination, large and fine motor skills, muscle development and body balance. All of these things will encourage the children to try newthings and develop high self-esteem. We will work on individual development, as well as teaching the kids how to work inside a group. With over 50activity plans, the children will get a wide variety of activities to enjoy-something different each week! This course will offer the following:-Mixed martial arts to include karate, kickboxing,muay thai and boxing; -Basic karate skills including kick, punch and blocking; -Fitness, flexibility andcoordination exercises; -Self defense moves that are easy and simple; -Self defense practice with partners; -Easy and fun training drills; -Training isinterspersed with games, drills and exercise. In Levers, Treuchets & Catapults you will nail the competition while time and the ping pong ballsof warfare fly as you break down enemy walls and minions. A little modern technology and Lego can defy the impossible.
