The beginning of a new year is always an exciting time – and 2013 is no exception! There is so much to look forward to… new ideas,
innovative products, and a host of new initiatives all set to be rolled out! Last year we saw some of our brands come out with highly
differentiated products. We are sure that this year will be no different!
Starting this issue, Balaji Prakash features as our guest columnist for the next 6 months, with his column 'Happiness Bytes'. The Raaga Team
regale us with their experiences at their product launches held at glamorous and glittering ceremonies in Bangalore and Hyderabad. And
one of our Management Trainees recounts his adventures in finding a sub- stockist.
Happy reading!
“Winning is a habit”, said Vince Lombardi. CavinKare has
been continuously proving this beyond doubt. Winning the
Employer Branding Awards 2012-13 under the category,
“Outstanding Contributions of Human Resources to Organizational
Development” is one such instance. Every year, the World HRD
Congress organizes the Employer Branding Awards- a HR Summit-
and gives out awards to Organizations and to Individuals in
appreciation of the shining contribution they have made to the HR
Industry. The core objective behind this is to “benchmark talent &
HR practices”.
he “Employer Branding Awards” are organized by
the Employer Branding Institute, which is an TOrganization consisting of Senior HR Leaders from
over 36 Countries. The awards are given out to notable HR leaders,
individuals, and to Organizations who do exemplary work and who
have made the HR Industry proud.
I had the honor to participate in the World HRD Congress thSummit held at Hyderabad on December 7 . Our participation
included a write up of around 2700 words about CavinKare's
Best HR practices in the area of Organizational Development
(OD), and supporting documents for those OD Interventions.
Based on our entry, the Jury scrutinized the work and shortlisted
CavinKare. The result was announced on the day of the function,
and the award was given on the same day by the Employer
Branding Institute. It was a proud moment that under this
category, CavinKare was the Single Winner. Some of the other
Organizations who participated in the Employer Branding
Awards include, EID Parry, Hitachi, HCL Technologies, GMR
Group, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Mahindra, Sivasakshi Group,
SHV Energy, Four Soft Ltd, Virtusa, UAE Exchange Services etc.,
Winning the Regional round automatically qualifies us
to participate at the National round which will happen on the th17 of February 2013.

Happy New Year to all CavinKareans!
Vol 2 | Issue 1 January, 2013
The highlights of the launches were the glamorous
fashion shows that enthralled one and all. The shows were
choreographed by Chennai's very own Karun Raman, a very well-
known fashion designer. The models walked the ramp wearing
beautiful clothes and sporting new hair styles and fashion hair
colors by Raaga Professional.
We can happily say that the launch of Raaga Professional
in Bangalore and Hyderabad was a resounding success. The Raaga
Team is now enthusiastically looking forward to take its amazing
products to all other cities across India with the same success!
s a first step to take it pan-India, Raaga
Professional launched their Hair and Skin Arange in the Bangalore and Hyderabad
markets. The launches were kicked off with style, glitz and
glamour at Le Meridien in Bangalore, and Marigold by Green Park
at Hyderabad.
The launches were attended by Hairdressers and
Beauticians from the professional salon industry. Like most
launches of a similar industry, the highlight of the event was the
glittering Fashion show and Technical demonstrations of the
products. The latest trends in Hair styling and Hair cut were
showcased by our very own Mr. Venky Charan, Regional
Technical Manager South. For the first time ever, the industry saw
creative hair styles like Square Curls, and witnessed other creative
hair cutting techniques.
The demonstration of the Skin care facial kits by Ms.
Mamta Singh, Regional Technical Manager North, was nothing
short of an “Aha!!” moment in the show. The crowd applauded
with gusto when Mamta peeled off the facial mask to reveal the
neat contours of the face intact! The crowd learned about various
massage strokes and pressure points which are used during a
facial treatment.

e are built upon our identities and we feel lost without
them. In truth, we are all a part of the organization that Wbrings us together and unifies us. When we cling to the
idea of being separate, we invite problems.
We are no In our minds, if we think that we are unconnected from
the rest, then we are sowing the seeds of discord. We turn selfish,
rigid, and opinionated. In other words, we become non-
performers.
Unity happens when we work with the spirit of a collective team.
When we work from the level of an individual, we dissect. But at
an organizational level, we work to unite. If we work as
individuals, then there is no room for progress and success. When
we are opinionated, we develop a barrier around us and then no
one is able to cross the barrier and connect with us. Drop your
opinions. Drop your perceptions. In truth, when you drop your
opinions and perceptions, you are actually dropping your ego.
When we are opinionated and rigid, we will neither be leaders,
nor will we be followers. We will only be standing alone in an
organization. This 'standing alone' will make us unhappy. So, our
happiness is within us, and not from outside. Merge with the
organizational objectives, resources, and thought. Work as a
unified ‘One’, and be happy!

eing a Management trainee at CavinKare is my very first job, but somehow it feels
odd to call it a job! The reason being that each day I go out in to the market, I find Bmyself gaining new experiences, which in some cases, should be called adventures
(that are profitable to our company, of course!).
Having completed my first stint in Ahmedabad, I am now experiencing the market
penetration of our products in rural Gujarat. Initially, I believed that the rural market would be all
about Chik sachets and Indica dye. But I soon realised that the hold our team has on the markets is
phenomenal, especially if it has brought the likes of Adidas and Spinz deodorants to the paan shops
of locations with population less than 5000!
In an attempt to take this market penetration further, I undertook the task of
deconsolidating the Gujarat sub- stockist market by finding un-serviced areas along with my TSI.
The task turned out to be quite an undertaking. We realised this after hours of roaming through the
remote villages of Sabarkantha district (and taking a fall from my bike in a checkdam stream!), and
reached once such town with around 60 outlets. We enthusiastically started searching for a sub-
stockist, when suddenly I stumbled upon a sign board that read “Available - Chilled Beer”. That was
when we realised that our search for un-serviced areas had not only taken us out of our territory, but
also out of the dry state of Gujarat! Despite the minor hiccup, we did find a sub- stockist and
emerged victorious in our task.
Through my rural stint, I have come to understand that a strong hold over the market is not
just required for the company to grow in terms of turnover, but also to take new innovative products
such as Nyle Henna to remote corners of our market. And with new and revolutionary products that
hold the potential to double our turnover, the Sales team is well equipped to take them to its
consumers!
