YOUTH HUMOR OF THE WEEK

There is the story of the CCD teacher who asked little Johnnie if he knew where Jesus dwelt a the present time, confidently expecting that he would answer: “In heaven.” In the bathroom, at my house,” replied Johnnie. Why would you say that?” inquired the shocked teacher. Because every morning my daddy pounds on the bathroom door and says, “My Lord, are you still in there?”

The CCD teacher could only smile

Youth & Teen Choirs Practice will resume on January 5, 2018.

Fr. Adam’s Corner

Dear Parishioners: As we approach a new year, it is often the time where many will take up some resolutions to improve themselves in some way. Some time ago I came across an article in Forbes about mentally strong people and their habits. It lists things mentally strong people do not do. So lets look at their list and see if we can use it to find things we can do this new year to be mentally stronger, which will help make us spiritually, physically, emotionally and even financially stronger too! Mentally strong people DO NOT:

Feel sorry for themselves- so we can learn to take re-sponsibility for ourselves and accept that life is not fair.

Give away their power- What power? The power to “make me feel bad” . Others do not control how I feel, it is my response to others that makes me feel the ways that I do. I can manage the way I respond to others and take control of those responses.

Shy away from change- so no one really likes change, yet it is a part of life, one that I should learn to embrace, seeking the good in those changes I cannot control and look always for ways to change, i.e. grow, for the better.

Waste energy on things they cannot control— I can stop complaining and look for the good in all things.

Worry about pleasing others— instead I can try to al-ways do what is right and virtuous and, in this, know I please God, who is the One who matters most. Usually this leads to respect from others, or at least from those who have integrity themselves.

Fear taking calculated risks— this does not mean jump foolishly into new ventures, but rather being thoughtful and planning well, but never letting fear of failure con-trol me.

Dwell on the past— it is wise to learn from the past, but foolish to dwell on either past failures or successes.

Relish the new adventures that life offers each day.

Make the same mistakes over and over— See numbers 1 & 7—Life is a harsh but strident teacher, learn from it and make the necessary changes, which are often small, to set a better course for the future.

Resent other people’s success— rejoice in the good that others accomplish, for us this is also matter of faith, for we are all one Body in Christ.

Give up after failure— the only real failure is giving up. Other “failures” along the way are only opportunities to learn and so get closer to the goal.

Fear alone time— Be happy with others, be happy alone. Use this time to reflect, pray, plan and recreate in a wholesome, healthy and holy way.

Feel the world owes them anything— be prepared to work and earn your own way and you will succeed.

Expect immediate results—life is a marathon, not a sprint!

Volunteers are needed, no experience necessary. Contact: Janice Szilli 610-987-8851. BLESSING AT EPIPHANY As we celebrate the coming of the Magi, it’s a Catholic custom for families to bless their home. Families are encouraged to trace crosses, the initials of the Magi and the numeral of the year over the doorway with chalk: 20 + C + M + B 18 the crosses stand for the title “saint” before each name. Legend names the Magi: Casper, Melchior and Balthasar. At the time of the reformation the Protestants who loved the custom changed the initials to mean (in Latin) May Christ bless this house, Chritus Mansionem Benedicticat. Sign of the Cross. Head of Household: "Peace be to this house and to all who dwell here, in the name of the Lord. All: Blessed be God forever. Reader: John 1:1-3.14 All: Lord God of heaven and earth, you revealed your only begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who inhabit it. May we be blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness and the keeping of your law. Fill us with the light of Christ that our love for each other may go out to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. MARRIAGE PREPARATION An early beginning for the Process of Marriage Prepa-ration is encouraged for couples who are discussing wedding plans. Contact the parish no later than 6 months in advance. Call the rectory and set up an ap-pointment with Father Adam. FR. ADAM’S CORNER (CONT’D) I hope you find these interesting and maybe even useful as we begin the New Year. And may this year ahead be filled with blessing for us all! Peace- Father Adam
