Points to Remember

The questions are based on graphing linear equations on a coordinate graph. When we draw two

simultaneous linear equations on the plane, there are three possible results:

(i) The graph lines intersect just once then we get a unique solution.

(ii) The graph lines never touch each other then we get no solution.

(iii) The graph lines lie on top of each other then we get infinite solution.

Q1) Draw the graph of the following simultaneous linear equations and solve

them graphically.

i) 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 5 and 𝑥 − 𝑦 = 1

ii) 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 0 and 2𝑥 − 𝑦 = 9

iii) x= 𝑦 and x= −𝑦

Q2) (a) Solve the following system of linear equations graphically 2𝑥 + 𝑦 − 5 = 0 and

𝑥 + 𝑦 − 3 = 0

(b) Also find the points where the graph lines meet the y-axis.

Q3) Show graphically that the simultaneous equations 2𝑥 + 𝑦 = 6 and

6𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 18 has infinitely many solutions.

History

Read the given sources A, B, C and D and answer the following questions:

According to source A, what were the reasons for Hindu opposition to the partition of Bengal?

[5]

What does Source B tell you about Muslim reaction to the partition of Bengal in 1905? [5]

What does Source C tell you about the culture of Sindh in ancient times? [5]

What does Source D tells you about the Bengal partition? [5]

You can refer to the following link for writing your answers.

https://www.thedailystar.net/in-focus/news/the-decision-partition-bengal-1905-1816591

Source A

The Hindus of west Bengal, who controlled most of Bengal’s commerce and professional and rural life,

complained that the Bengali nation would be split in two, making them a minority in a province including the

whole of Bihar and Orissa. They regarded the partition as an attempt to strangle nationalism in Bengal, where it

was more developed than elsewhere. Agitation against the partition included mass meetings, rural unrest, and

a swadeshi (native) movement to boycott the import of British goods. The partition was carried through despite

the agitation, and the extreme opposition went underground to form a terrorist movement.

A mass meeting of Muslims held at Dhaka on September 4, 1906 in favour of the partition of Bengal. The photo

was published in The Sphere on October 27, 1906 (Courtesy: Bangladesh on Record).
