The Hospice Spring Bouquet Sale also happens in February. Along with being Hospice’s largest event, the sale brings much needed public awareness for Hospice and its mission. Heathwood will be a Bouquet Sale site again this year. For $10, you can order a colorful bouquet to brighten your day or give as a gift. Order a tribute bouquet, featuring 30 stems, for just $30, and spread more cheer. For every tribute bouquet purchased, a $10 bouquet will be sent to brighten the day of a Hospice patient. Presale orders will be taken at the Reception Desk up until Feb. 19. Bouquets can be picked up at Heathwood on March 2. Thank you for your support. About a year after graduation, George enlisted in the Navy and served four years in the Mediterranean area. He loved his career choice and was the recipient of many awards and accolades over the years. Family issues resulted in his relocating to Houston where he ended up living for 18 years and was manager of a dry cleaning plant. The wishes of his son and daughter, who both reside in the WNY area, convinced him to return home to Buffalo. George is the proud grandpa of three grandchildren. Administrator’s Accents

February is full of special celebrations: Super Bowl Sunday, Groundhog Day, Presidents Day, the Academy Awards and of course, Valentine’s Day.

Personality Profile

Eighty-three years ago, Joseph and Margaret Baran visited the Father Baker Orphanage in Lackawana and decided that the shy 1-year-old boy in the corner had to be part of their family. George Baran grew up with his newfound family in Amherst and graduated from Amherst Central High. About a year after graduation, George enlisted in the Navy and served four years in the Mediterranean area. Upon his return to the States, he joined the family dry cleaning business after attending the National Dry Cleaning Institute. Sports have always been a big part of his life and today he is a huge Sabres and Bills fan. Recalling his days of marathon boat racing around Grand Island bring a smile to George’s face.

Heathwood Emphasis

Here at Heathwood, we encourage and promote staff to go above and beyond what is expected in their jobs. Recognition, when done strategically and consistently, has been proven to be an important driver for creating a work environment where employees become more engaged. As an organization, we have developed the Heathwood Way, a “Facebook-like” platform which allows staff to recognize their co-workers on a public platform the good things they do every day. Please feel free to ask any staff member about our Heathwood Way initiative. We want to keep our platform fresh and entice staff to use it more!

• Three Heathwood Heroes cards, our process for recognizing staff members for outstanding service, were read. Those identified as Heroes were: Kate Dobe, Candice Washington and Jazmin Williams.

• President Elaine Mullen commented on the busy activity calendar in December and offered thanks on behalf of the residents to the Wellness staff for a job well done.

• Currently, a search is ongoing to find a new Food Service Director. The new individual will be invited to attend Resident Council Meetings to address concerns.

• Several comments regarding BINGO were brought up. We are open to all suggestions and will be taking them into consideration. Guidelines will be set up that will be fair to all.
