Art,RevolutionAsylum:HowtoDecolonizeLecturePerformanceMohammadAbuHajar(Tartous/Syria,Berlin)“Theysaythateverycloudhasasilverlining.Let’ssaythattheinaugurationofTrumpwasthedeclarationofthecloud’sarrival.Iwouldliketosaythatwecanfindthesilverlining,butfirstweneedtoask:WasitallfinebeforeTrump?Itwasn’t,fortherewaswhitesupremacy,gender-baseddiscrimination,policekillingpeoplebased on color, the increasing role of the USA around the globe, with all its colonial attitudes. Thoseconditionswere the infrastructure that brought Trump to power andwill generate other Trumps aroundprivilegedsocieties.Imentionprivilegesherebecausewithoutthem,thingscouldbebetter.Firstofall,nobodywasgoingtobeforcedtoleave,sohowdothoseprivilegesexpressthemselvesandwhatneedstobechanged(includingthe“welcomingculture”)?Theshiftthathappenedtotheinternationalsolidaritymovementhasbeenminimizedmainlyto“solidaritywithrefugees.”WhatdoesithavetodowithIslamophobiaorIslamophilia,ifwecanusethisterm?Theaimistoprovideexamplesofwhenandhowprivilegescanparticipateindesigningopinionsandimaginaryviewsonsomeplacesandcultures,particularlyintheMiddleEast.”

MohammadAbuHajar isaSyrianrapartist.Thepoliticalcontentofhissongsgothimarrestedand incarcerated inhis country.Hestartedhis careerasa rapper in2004,asoneofSyria’s first rappers.His first songwasmotivatedby thecoalitioninvasionofIraqin2003.Then,in2007,heformedMazzaj,togetherwithtwoothermusicians,tobethefirstSyrianbandinTartous,hishometownonthecoastalsideofthecountry.By2012,afterbeingsoughtbythesecretservice,hefledtoRome,where he finished his master’s degree in political economics (focusing on theeconomiceffectsofimmigration).Insummer2014,theartistmovedtoBerlinandaskedforpoliticalasylum.

Both work in the style ofcolonialism’s “sociological” surveillance of the colonized. Rheim Alkadhi is a visual artist who operates under growing conditions ofimpermanence,maintainingapractice that is transient,portable,and formulatedsite-specifically, with regard to socio- and bio-political geographies. The philosopher Keti Chukhrov (National Research University, Higher School ofEconomics[HSE],Moscow)isanassociateprofessorintheDepartmentofCulturalTheory at the HSE, head of the theory department at the National Centre forContemporaryArts (NCCA) inMoscow.Her research interestsare theontologyofperforming, comparative epistemologies of socialism and capitalism, art systems,andpost-humanstudies.Shehasauthorednumeroustextsonarttheory,culturalpolitics, and philosophy. Book-length publications include: To Be – To Perform:“Theatre”inPhilosophicalCriticismofArt(2011);Pound&£(1999);andavolumeofdramaticwriting, Just Humans (2010). She is currently finishing the book on theinterpretationofthenotionof“theideal”intheSovietMarxistphilosophyof1960sand1970s.

agriculturalmonoculturesofthegiganticcorporations.Fromminingtosoycultivation,fromurbanextractivismtofracking—itbecomesapparentherethateconomiccartelsplaythemaindecision-makingroleintermsofwhatislegalorillegal,possibleorimpossible,justorunjustforurbanprojects,economicactivities,lifestyles,andcollectiveidentities.However,horizontalconceptsdoexist,whichmakesitpossibletoconceiveotherrelationalmodelsandothervisionsofsociety,suchastheconceptofcommons,environmentalrights,healthylifestylesandethics.Therefore,itisessentialtothinkaboutareformagendaandanalternativetoextractivism.

EnriqueMatíasViale earnedhis lawdegree from theUniversity of BuenosAires(UBA). He then pursued a postgraduate degree at the same university andspecialized in environmental law. In the year 2004, he founded the ArgentinianAssociationofEnvironmentalLawyers(AAdeAA).Vialeisacriticalopponentofthedevelopmentmodelbasedonunlimitedgrowthandheadvocatesfortherightsofnatureandtheenvironment.HeisamemberoftheEthicsTribunalontheRightsofNature and Mother Earth and the Earth Law Alliance. Belonging to the latterorganizationarespecialized lawyersthroughouttheworld. Inhisroleas jurist,heworkstofightagainstcountlessinstancesofdamagetotheenvironmentcausedbyhumansandcampaignsforrestoration/regenerationoftheseareas.Heisactiveincitizens’ initiatives and participates in mass gatherings that try to defend theircountries/areasfromexploitationthroughmining,tracking,agriculturalprofiteering,real-estate speculation, and other extreme forms. Furthermore, he has authoredvarious professional articles on the topics of development, politics, andenvironmental law; and in view of these “misdevelopments,” he has authoredvariousbooksincollaborationwiththesociologistMaristellaSvampa.
