Academy for Science & Health ProfessionsThe mission of the Academy is to provide a specialized learningenvironment for all highly motivated students focused on careers inscience and health professions. This school-within-a-schoolprogram is designed to offer motivated students a comprehensiveand challenging academic educational program enabling them topursue post-secondary careers in health sciences, life sciences,physical sciences, engineering, and technology. The program

requires a high commitment to academic excellence from allstudents. Those selected may earn as many as 7 to 8 science ormathematics credits and up to 2 credits in health sciencetechnologies and computer science. All students have theopportunity to earn career shadowing or internship credits throughthe Academy program. The Academy program while housed on theConroe High School campus enrolls students from the Caney CreekHigh School and Conroe High School feeder systems. Eighth gradestudents entering the 9th grade as well as 9th or 10th transferstudents have the opportunity to apply for entrance into theprogram. Goals of the Academy program focus on: 1. providing a comprehensive science, math, career, and health-

profession related range of courses within the regular highschool program;

2. providing an immersion of technology across all science, math,and health science course work;

3. providing through a small learning community and a nurturing,supportive instructional staff provide a learning environmentthat will not only challenge individual students, but alsoprovide problem-solving models of learning;

4. encouraging students to conduct research and participate inscience, technology, and health-science academiccompetitions and/or public demonstrations or symposiumsapplying knowledge;

5. provide at least four years of math and science with additionalspecialization of science available;

6. involving parents and universities, community partners inbusiness and industry in the support of our program andstudents.

Application information will be provided during the early fall to allCISD eighth grade students residing in the Conroe High/CaneyCreek High attendance zones or others eligible via transfers. Theseout-of-district eighth grade and high school transfer studentsinterested in the Academy should contact the Academy office at(936) 709-5795 for further information.

College and Career CenterThe College and Career Center is open daily 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Resourcesand information are readily available on the following:• College admissions – applications, deadlines • Post-secondary school options – 2-year and 4-year colleges and

Commencement Services EligibilityTo participate in commencement exercises a student must havesuccessfully completed all required courses and earned theminimum credits as set up in the CISD graduation requirements. Astudent may be denied the privilege of participation incommencement exercises for disciplinary reasons or havingoutstanding fines or fees. Failure to master any section of the ExitLevel TAKS/EOC Test makes a student ineligible to participate ingraduation exercises.

Early GraduationStudents who wish to graduate in less than four years must declarethat intention by the end of the sophomore year. The student,parent, counselor, and principal must sign a letter indicating howthe student plans to achieve early graduation. For students new tothe district, the campus principal may determine eligibility for earlygraduation. In extenuating circumstances, the campus principalmay refer the decision to the Assistant Superintendent forSecondary Education.

Exam Exemption PolicyPolicy will be communicated via web page and announcements

Extra-Curricular/AthleticsStudents involved in extra-curricular activities and athletics areheld to a higher standard. These students will be required to abideby the terms contained in the handbooks of their respectiveactivities.

GraduationGraduation RehearsalRehearsal will take place on graduation morning, May 26, 2020 atthe Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.Attendance for this rehearsal is mandatory for participation in thegraduation ceremony.School IndebtednessIn order to participate in the graduation ceremonies, all schooldebts must be paid no later than noon on May 22, 2020, by cashor money order only.Graduation TicketsDue to limited space and fire marshal restrictions, each graduatewill be given a specific number of guest tickets for the seated areaof Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. If a graduate has more gueststhan the allotted tickets, their guests may sit in the lawn area.There is no limitation on the number of guests in the lawn area.Graduation CeremonyThe graduation ceremony will be held at The Woodlands Pavillion,May 26, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. Students will receive their diploma atthe graduation ceremony. Students must dress in graduationattire. Ladies will wear proper dress code length dresses and dressshoes. Men will wear dark dress slacks, dress shoes, and a whitebutton down, collared dress shirt with a tie. Students need to bringall stoles and cords with them to the ceremony. Also, caps andgowns may not be altered in any way. Cameras, cell phones,purses and other personal items need to be left with thestudents’ families as the students will not be returning to thestaging gym after the ceremony.Graduation SpeakersGraduation speakers are chosen from Summa Cum Laude andMagna Cum Laude graduates and will be selected by a campuscommittee. The principal will select the committee members.

Late Arrival/Early ReleaseLate arrival and early release is a privilege. Late arrival studentsmust be on campus by the start of 2nd period. If a student hasearly release, they are expected to leave campus when their earlyrelease time begins. Failure to comply may result in loss of latearrival or early release periods.

LunchLunch periods will be assigned by rooms. Seniors are notguaranteed the last lunch period. All students will eat lunch at theirassigned time. Lunch is in the cafeteria.

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude TestJuniors and Sophomores will take the Preliminary Scholastic

Aptitude Test offered by the District on October 16, 2019.

Results of the tests shall be used to assist in the evaluation of theDistrict’s language arts and mathematics curriculums.

The District will pay for the test for Juniors and Sophomores.

Schedule ChangesStudents will stay in courses for the entire semester. This applies toseniors in drill teams, athletics, or any other course.

TardiesStudents are expected to be in class at the designated time.Tardiness will cause students to receive referrals for disciplinaryaction. Students who are more than ten minutes late will beconsidered absent resulting in academic and disciplinary penalties.

Three tardies are equal to one absence in reference to exemptionsfrom final exams.

Tardy Policy 1. When a student is tardy to class 10 minutes or less, the teacher

will input the tardy into the electronic gradebook. 2. Any student arriving to class more than 10 minutes late may be

considered truant to class. The teacher will mark the student asabsent in the electronic grade book, but document the latearrival time in their records. Parents or guardians will benotified by phone or in writing about the documented absence.Students who present notes from the attendance officeindicating an appointment with a health care professionalshould still be counted as absent but not reported to theassistant principal. The attendance office will input the correctdata.

3. Excessive tardies will result in disciplinary action. 4. The tardy policy will be communicated via the school webpage

and is subject to change.

Time Limit for Excusing AbsencesIf a student’s parents do not contact the school or the student failsto bring a note from his/her parents or guardians upon returningto school, the student has five days to have an absence excused.After five days, the absences still remain unexcused. Leaving earlyor returning late for a vacation and/or family trip is not an excusedabsence.

Student BehaviorTeaching good citizenship is a primary goal of our school. Allstudents of Conroe High School should respect others' propertyand rights, practice honesty, and show respect to teachers andadministrators. All students will identify themselves by giving their first and lastnames to any staff member, or other school personnel. Theacademic and extracurricular benefits and privileges received bystudents are dependent upon the good behavior of each student.Behavior that threatens the welfare and morale of the school willbe referred to the assistant principal. All students must possessschool issued id's at all times.Students should also realize that staff members have the authorityand the responsibility to correct inappropriate behavior whennecessary. Every effort will be made to help the student inovercoming his/her problem.The school tries to involve the student in some decisions regardingdiscipline. The following procedures may be used separately orcollectively to modify student behavior in correction of problems. Student ConferenceIf a student receives a written referral from a faculty member,he/she will discuss the problem with the appropriate assistantprincipal. The student is responsible for his/her own behavior. Theappropriate assistant principal will help identify the problem andestablish steps to help the student correct the problem.Parent ContactIf the student has difficulty overcoming a problem, the school feelsa responsibility for involving the parent.After-School Detention (ASD)After School Detention classes will be conducted for thosestudents assigned there for disciplinary reasons. Students may beassigned a one hour or a two hour ASD depending upon thecircumstances of the discipline. Students must present their IDwhen entering ASD.One hour ASD will be held from 2:45 until 3:45 p.m. If a student isassigned to one hour ASD they must have transportation home atthe end of the one hour ASD or stay in ASD until the release timefor the two hour ASD. Students in One hour ASD will not be givenbus passes. Loitering on campus after one hour ASD will result infurther disciplinary measures. Two hour ASD will be held from 2:45 until 5:00 p.m. Late buspasses will be given after two hour ASD. ID’s will be required inaddition to Late Bus Passes to ride the late bus. Students in ASD must bring schoolwork to work on duringdetention. Students will not be admitted to ASD without bringingwork. If the student does not bring work to complete on the day ofthe assignment, another day of ASD will be added. Should thestudent continue to have problems with work for ASD then aSaturday Detention may be added. Students who arrive after 2:45p.m. are considered absent from ASD and their AP will reassignfurther discipline. Saturday Detention (SD)SD class may be implemented as required. Rules for studentresponsibility for bringing work to the four hour SD are the same asASD. Students must arrive by 8 a.m. and stay until 12 noon. Failure toattend SD may result in ISS.

Rules for After-School Detention (ASD)Saturday Detention (SD)• Must be on time.• Must bring books and/or school assignments.• Students must work on school assignments.• Must remain seated and quiet.• No food, drink or related items.• Cannot leave the room or seat.• Must provide own transportation.• There will be no sleeping.• Failure to follow the above regulations will result in dismissal from

ASD and/or disciplinary action from the appropriate assistantprincipal.

• If offenses are repeated or of a serious nature, the student will beindefinitely assigned to off campus suspension at AlternativeEducational Placement.

In-School Suspension (ISS)A student may be assigned to ISS for any behavior violation of the CISDDiscipline Management Program. The goal of ISS is to aid the assignedstudent in accepting responsibility for his/her behavior. In schoolsuspension will be held from the start of the school day until as lateas 4:45 p.m. Any student who leaves ISS without permission will notreceive credit for that day and will be referred to their assistantprincipal.ISS will have a regular instructor to monitor behavior and to assiststudents with assignments when appropriate. The class will be housedon the Conroe High School campus and will operate from 7 a.m. untilas late as 4:45 p.m. Electronic devices are not permitted in ISS andmust be given to the ISS teacher upon arrival.Class assignments will be also be gathered from teachers. It is thestudent’s responsibility to bring the necessary books, notebooks,materials, etc. to successfully complete assigned class work. Teachersmay send tests to the ISS instructor. Failure to follow ISS guidelinesmay result in additional ISS days.Disciplinary Alternative Educational Placement (DAEP)Any student assigned to DAEP should report to the class withschoolbooks and needed study materials. In the supervised class thestudent studies regular schoolwork, receives assistance from theteacher and takes all required tests that have been missed due tobeing out of regular classes. Bus transportation is provided to and from DAEP. The appropriateadministrator must clear any other transportation arrangements. Ifstudents miss the bus, they are sent home with no credit for that day.Students assigned to DAEP are not allowed to attend extracurricularactivities on any CISD campus.All school rules and regulations will be in effect for students during thereassignment period. Students referred are required to attend DAEPdaily during regular school hours.Dress Code for DAEP 1. No jewelry, backpacks, wallets, watches, purses or cosmetic

articles are allowed. 2. Only plain white shirts that extend below the waist are allowed.

No sleeveless shirts or tank tops. Logos, writing or pictures arenot allowed to be on the shirt (no exceptions). Shirts must staytucked in throughout the day.

3. Fitted blue or black solid denim jeans—no stripes—to be wornat the waist.

4. Only tennis shoes are acceptable (no boots, sandals, etc.)

5. For warmth, jackets or zippered sweatshirts may be worn, solidcolor, no logos. Long sleeve shirts are not acceptable as jackets.

6. No visible undergarments allowed.

The DAEP will assist parents in maintaining their children in schooland overcoming the student’s discipline problems.When the student has satisfied school authorities that he/she is readyto become a student who can obey school rules, he/she will beallowed to return to regular class. During DAEP assignment, thestudent is not allowed on any CISD campus or at any school sponsoredevent.Disciplinary AppealsDisciplinary decisions made by the Assistant Principal may beappealed to the Associate Principal for School Operations within fiveschool days of the Assistant Principal's decision. Decisions made bythe Associate Principal are final. Exceptions are cases of expulsion,which may be appealed to the superintendent or his designee.Food and Drink in ClassroomsNo food or drink other than bottled water will be allowed in theclassroom or hallways.Deliveries to CampusStudents who have left things at home such as lunch, athleticclothes, homework/projects, etc., should stop by the front office andsee if these items have been delivered. No items of this nature willbe delivered to the student in the classroom. Deliveries from floristsand other business will not be delivered to the student. Balloon bouquets and floral arrangements are not allowed in thehalls or classrooms. The school will not accept deliveries fromrestaurants or delivery companies such as DoorDash or Grubhub.School lunches must be delivered by a parent or family member. Glass ContainersGlass containers are not allowed on campus or parking lots. Studentswho bring their lunch to school are allowed to bring thermoscontainers, canned drinks, or plastic containers.Student IDsFor school safety and security all Conroe High students will possesstheir ID from the time that they arrive on campus until they leavecampus for the day. Students can purchase a temporary ID for $1.00and a permanent ID for $7.00. Failure to possess your ID may result indisciplinary action. IDs will be required for riding the late bus, library,cafeteria, as well as other activities. Any student who alters, damages,defaces, etc. their ID will be required to replace the ID at a cost of$7.00. ID’s are the property of Conroe High School and must bereturned upon withdrawal from CHS.Leaving SchoolOnce a student arrives on campus, he/she may not leave withoutpermission from school personnel. Leaving campus withoutpermission from the school during any part of the school day istruancy. Students will receive discipline for truancy.Leaving School for Related ActivitiesStudents at school for related activities (plays, games, dances, etc.) areprohibited from going to the parking lot, leaving school grounds orevents without permission from school personnel unless leaving theactivity completely. No re-entry will be allowed.Parking RegulationsStudents are allowed to use their own transportation to and fromschool but the school is not responsible of libel for damage orlosses to vehicles or accidents, which occur on the school parkinglots.

All students driving cars or motorcycles to school must register themwith the officer on duty. To register you must give license platenumbers, show a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance. You willnot be allowed to park on campus without a school parking permit.These permits are $45 per school year and can be paid for in the mainoffice. Parking tags are not transferable. Parking may be suspended orrevoked for violating parking regulations.

Any student needing to leave the parking lot because of an emergencymust sign out in the assistant principal’s office or attendance office.The speed limit in all parking lots is 5 m.p.h.

Students involved in extracurricular activities are not considered earlyrelease.

All accidents or thefts in the parking area should be reported to theappropriate assistant principal and police officer.

Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in yourparking privileges being revoked or disciplinary action. Fire lanes mustremain open. The police officers may take suitable action to maintainthe fire lanes.

All persons picking up students should come to the front of the schoolbuilding on Highway 105 to eliminate congestion in the bus loadingarea on Wilson Road. Please observe the Exit Only signs at the front ofConroe High School.

Vehicles may be towed if they are blocking any area or are not parkedproperly within the defined student parking area.

• All students driving motor vehicles to school must obtain a parkingpermit. See the parking lot officer.

• Students driving vehicles other than the one with a parking hang tagshould contact campus police for a temporary parking permit.

• Students may not park in areas or spaces designated for schoolemployees. This includes the area around trash dumpsters, firelanes, or gates.

• Students may not park in front of the school before leaving for alate school activity.

• Students may not loiter either in cars or the parking lot at any time.• Students who must return to their vehicle during the school day

must obtain a pass from the assistant principal.• Any student needing to leave campus during school must obtain a

permit to leave campus from the assistant principal or attendanceoffice.

• All accidents, thefts, or other problems should be reported to theappropriate assistant principal or campus security.

• No student will be allowed to park on the Conroe High Schoolcampus after August 30 without obtaining a parking permit.

• If a student violates the attendance laws by leaving campus ortaking other students off campus, he/she may lose parkingprivileges.

• The first parking violation will result in a warning and a review ofparking rules and regulations, which the student will sign. Thesecond offense will result in a 10-day suspension of parkingprivileges. A third violation may result in the loss of parkingprivileges for the rest of the semester and the vehicle will bebooted. Removal of the boot will cost $20.00. Any furtheroffenses may result in towing/booting of the car and permanentloss of parking privileges. Towing/booting of cars will be atowner’s expense. A violation for parking in a handicap space, firelane or any violation covered by Texas Law will result in a ConroeIndependent School District Police Department ticket and a two-week parking suspension the first time. The second offense willresult in a permanent loss of parking privileges and vehicle willbe towed at the owner’s expense.

• The student and an administrator will sign all forms, includingthe Two-week Suspension Form and the permanent Loss ofParking Privileges Form.

• Parking privileges may be revoked due to violation of StudentCode of Conduct.

Pedestrian SafetyStudents need to make sure they cross at all cross walks and usecare when crossing Hwy 105. Students need to meet the bus at itsassigned location and follow correct exit and entry procedureswhen loading and unloading from the bus. Once a student arrivesto campus, he/she may not leave school grounds withoutpermission from school personnel.

Plagiarism/CheatingCheating will be reported to the appropriate administrator. Theparent or guardian will be notified by the teacher. Students willreceive a zero for the test or assignment on which they plagiarizedor cheated and they may receive disciplinary consequences.

Plagiarism is generally defined as the use of another’s work orideas without clearly acknowledging the source of information.Plagiarism of any kind constitutes academic dishonesty and will notbe tolerated from any student in any course. Three levels ofplagiarism have been identified and each may result in disciplinaryconsequences.• Fraud - the outright purchasing or copying of an entire paper,

perhaps with a new introduction or conclusion added. In somecases, such copying may entail copyright infringement.

• Substantial Plagiarism - widespread or considerable borrowingof material, passing off borrowed material as original, failure toindicate quoted evidence or give biographical sources or otherappropriate credit.

• Incidental Plagiarism - borrowing, copying, downloading, orinsertion of materials without appropriate credit oracknowledgement.

Possession or Use of Prohibited ItemsAlcohol/Drugs/Tobacco or other Illegal Substances or ParaphernaliaCars and lockers may be searched for tobacco, alcohol, drugs orother prohibited items in accordance with Board Policy FNF.Non-prescription drugs, prescription drugs or natural herbalproducts or any type stimulants are specifically prohibited fromcampus. Students possessing or using such drugs will receivedisciplinary action. Any student in possession of and/or use of anysubstance identified by law enforcement agencies as a substancethat is or has been used as a drug to illicit a behavioral change mayresult in disciplinary action.Possession and/or use of any drug paraphernalia as identified bylaw enforcement agencies may result in disciplinary action.

Distribution of MaterialsDuplicated, written or printed materials, handbills, photographs,pictures, films, tapes, or other visual or auditory materials shall not besold, circulated, or distributed on or near the premises of any school inthe Conroe Independent School District without explicit approval ofthe school principal. The principal shall suspend any student whoviolates this policy. No person shall distribute such materials on anyschool campus without explicit permission of the principal and/orsuperintendent.

Electronic Device PolicyCHS is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of personalelectronic devices. The policy for the use of electronic devicesincludes, but is not limited to: cellular phones, paging devices,laser pointers, radios, video cameras, cameras (digital and film),IPODS, DVD players, ear phones/buds, or any other electronicdevices:• Electronic devices may not be seen, used, or heard in the

classroom without explicit teacher permission.• Use of electronic devices in common areas of the building should

not impede the student’s ability to listen to and comply withdirection. Students listening to music during class change areallowed to use only one ear bud.

• Students who knowingly use an electronic device to capture astudent violating the student code of conduct will be subject todisciplinary action.

• Violation of this policy will result in being sent to theadministrator’s office. Use of electronic devices is expresslyprohibited during ISS and detention.

• Continued violations of the electronic policy will result in a parentconference and further disciplinary action.

TestingStudents are expected to follow CHS testing procedures as directed byteachers. Students caught with phones during testing could beconsidered cheating and receive a zero. The phone will be confiscatedand turned in to the student's assistant principal's office. Studentsmay receive up to three days of In-School Suspension for having aphone at their desk during a test.WeaponsFireworks, stun guns, firearms, knives, and/ or any projectile device orweapon item found on a student or in a vehicle will be taken up.These items may be returned only to the parents or guardian of thestudent. Weapons of any kind will not be tolerated on school groundsand will result in disciplinary action.

Confiscated items will be kept until the end of that school year.Information regarding the return of these items may be obtained fromthe assistant principal's office during the week following graduation.Contraband items will not be returned.Public Display of AffectionTangible courtship: students should conduct themselves in a dignifiedmanner at all times while at school or at school functions. To preservethis dignity, it is considered a violation to engage in inappropriatepersonal display of affection. Inappropriate personal display ofaffection may result in disciplinary action.TextbooksThe state and the school district provide books. It is the responsibilityof each student to take care of the books issued. Students and/orteachers are required to write their names and the teacher’s nameand room, in ink, in the space provided in the front of the book.Books are to be covered at all times. Students and/or parents arerequired to pay for lost books and damaged books.

If books are not returned, the student’s record will be held incompleteuntil the book record has been settled. A student whose textbookrecord is not clear will not be issued any textbooks until the record isclear. Charges for Damaged Textbooks• Slightly damaged: $5.00 - torn page, damaged spine, damaged

cover, marked pages (pencil), dog-eared pages, or marked edges• Significant damage: Half of the $ cost of the book - torn pages(s)

Lost TextbooksStudents who find textbooks should return them to the bookroom. If a student and/or teacher’s name is in the book, it will bereturned to the proper person as soon as possible.Violation of State LawCISD Police officers may issue citations for violations of state law.Some of the offenses include but are not limited to:• Failure to attend school • Motor vehicle violation• Drug possession/use, etc. • Alcohol possession/use, etc.• Weapon possession • Other violations as they occur• Disruption of instruction • Criminal trespass• Disorderly conduct/fighting/profanity• Possession or use of tobacco products

2019-2020 Student Dress CodeAny clothing or grooming that in the principal’s judgement mayreasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interfere withnormal school operations is prohibited. The student and parent maydetermine the student’s personal dress and grooming standards,provided that they comply with the general guidelines set out inConroe ISD’s policy and the campus dress code for students (listedbelow). Since it is difficult to predict in advance what the problemdress will be, guidelines will be interpreted to the students as needed,either on a group or individual basis.

To be able to ride school transportation, a student must be in dresscode. The dress code regulations are in effect from the first day ofschool through the last day of school. If a person is absent because ofdress code violation, he/she may be considered truant and unable tomake up work missed.

Any form of extreme or conspicuous dress is unacceptable. Clothingthat is obviously inappropriate for classroom activities will not beallowed.

Students are required to be clean and well groomed, and their dressmust be modest and non-disruptive. Clothing that is normally worn torecreational activities such as beach trips, picnics, and sporting eventsis not appropriate for school.

The student’s dress and grooming: 1. Shall not lead school officials reasonably to believe that such

dress or grooming will disrupt, interfere with, disturb, or detractfrom school activities; or

2. Shall not create a health or other hazard to the student’s safetyor to the safety of others.

The principal, in connection with the sponsor, coach, or other personin charge of an extra-curricular activity, may regulate the dress andgrooming of students who participate in the activity. Allgroup/organizational T-shirts must be approved by administrationprior to purchase.

General Dress Code Guidelines 1. Students are not to wear clothing such as halter tops, tank tops,

basketball jerseys, muscle shirts, tube tops, see-through attire,backless apparel, off-the-shoulder or bare-shoulder attire,spaghetti straps, or midriff/crop tops. Cleavage may not be shown.

2. Shirts must be long enough to tuck into pants, shorts, or skirtsand must be below the waistband.

3. Students are prohibited from wearing garments that sag belowthe hipbones. Baggy pants are not permitted.

4. Body fitting pants including, but not limited to, leggings,compression tights, and yoga pants can only be worn with ashirt that fully covers the backside.

5. Holes in pants higher than 2 inches above the knee cannotshow skin or undergarments.

6. All dresses/skirts, shorts, and pants should approach the knee.Any garment shorter than 2 inches above the top of the kneeshall be considered in violation. Tights, hosiery, or other sheerleg coverings will not make inappropriate attire acceptable.

7. Students cannot wear garments or display tattoos with visualor written messages that display drugs, alcohol, tobacco,weapons, violence, vulgar or obscene language or images,and/or insults to race, religion, gender, ethnicity, gangs orcults, and/or any other message that will cause a disruption tothe school environment.

8. Students must wear appropriate underclothing, which cannotbe visible.

9. Pajamas and house shoes are not acceptable school attire. 10. Shoes must be worn and not present a safety or health hazard. 11. Head coverings may not be worn and should not be brought to

school. Head coverings include caps, hats, bandanas, stockingcaps, beanies, etc. Exceptions would be a cap or hat that is partof a uniform at a school activity or a head covering worn forreligious purposes or medical reasons as approved byadministration. Bandanas may not be worn as an accessory.

12. Trench coats, long coats or ponchos are not allowed. 13. Jewelry and/or accessories that interfere with the learning

environment and/or deemed a safety hazard are prohibited. 14. The student’s hairstyle must not distract from or interfere with

the learning environment. 15. Chains (including wallet chains), studded collars, and studded

belts are prohibited. Belt buckles wider than five inches arealso prohibited.

16. Any extra clothing, towels, flags, blankets, etc. need to beplaced in backpacks and not thrown over the shoulder or usedas clothing.

17. Appropriate and tasteful dress that stays within the dress codeis expected at functions such as prom, National Honor SocietyInduction, banquets, awards ceremonies, etc.

18. Hoverboards, skateboards, skates, and skate shoes are notallowed on campus. They must be checked in with yourassistant principal before school.

Use the following guidelines forappropriate dress for prom:• Spaghetti straps and strapless are acceptable.• Camisole backs that lace up are acceptable.• Front and back of dress must not be too low cut or too revealing.• Short dresses must follow dress code measurements. This includes

slits on long dresses.• Proper undergarments must be worn.• Students must wear appropriate formal attire which means no flip

flops, tennis shoes, athletic shoes, baseball caps or other non-formal wear will be allowed.

• Any student who is not dressed appropriately will not be allowed toenter the prom.

The principal or his designee will be the final authority in dresscode decisions. Dress Code ViolationsThe policy governing dress and grooming will be enforceduniformly by the faculty and administration. It shall be theresponsibility of the professional staff to determine theappropriateness of attire for all school occasions. When violationsof these guidelines occur, parents will be notified and requested tobring appropriate apparel to school. On occasion, they could beasked to take the student home for the day. When parents cannotbe contacted, the student will not be permitted to return to classand will be assigned to the campus in-school suspension room.Repeated violations will be handled as defiance of authority andwill be grounds for suspension and/or extended assignment to thecampus in-school suspension room. Students with questionsregarding this dress code should use this rule of thumb: If indoubt, don’t wear it!

Announcements/Bulletin Boards/Posters and SignsAnnouncements must have the approval of the associate principalbefore they are made. The public address system, with speakers inevery room of the high school buildings, the cafeteria, and thegymnasiums, is used to make announcements as well as tocommunicate with teachers and students in emergencies. Normally,the principal, assistant principal, school secretary, or the principal'sdesignee will make announcements.

The bulletin boards near the library and in the corridors, as well asthose in each room, will keep students posted on important eventstaking place at CHS.

All posters and signs are to be approved by the associate principal.The associate principal will set an established limit on the number ofposters each individual may put up. Posters and signs may be postedon established bulletin boards only.

Change of Address or Telephone NumberWhen the address or telephone number of a student has beenchanged, it is his/her responsibility to notify the appropriate assistantprincipal’s office and the registrar. A proof of residency is required tochange an address. Please contact the registrar’s office for additionalinformation - 936.709.5673.

Late BusBus transportation is available for students who are involved in co-curricular activities after school. These activities include sports, clubmeetings, tutoring and detention—all will be monitored by schoolpersonnel who will print a late bus pass for any student who rides.This pass will have the student name, ID number and picture alongwith the bus route for the student’s home area. The late buses will bedesignated to each of these four routes.

The late buses do not drop students door to door, but at satelliteareas designated by the transportation department. Any questionsabout these satellite drop off points may be directed to CISDTransportation at (936) 709-7913.

Library Media CenterThe Library hours are 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The library is open tostudents without passes before and after school. During class periodsand lunch, students must have hall passes to the library, issued fromthe teacher who has assigned the work. Five minutes before eachperiod is over, all students on passes will be sent back to class. Thepass will show the time the student entered the library as well as thetime he/she left to return to class. No passes will be issued from thelibrarian to the restroom, counselor, assistant principals, etc. Onlystudents with library passes will be accepted during the lunchperiod(s).

Books may be checked out for 14 school days, after which a fine willbe issued for each day overdue. The maximum fine will be full value ofthe book. Reserved books may be checked out overnight with writtenpermission from your classroom teacher. Any student who abuses thelibrary privilege will have it revoked.

Lost ArticlesStudents who find articles should turn them into the CHS Tiger Den.All lost articles will be stored until they are claimed.

Theft of articles should be reported to the appropriate assistantprincipal as soon as the theft is discovered. There will be noannouncements made over the public address system concerninglost or stolen books or articles.

It is recommended that students do not bring valuables, money orproperty to school. CHS assumes no liability for the loss or theft ofthese articles. Do not keep "found" articles in your possession; turnthem into the CHS Tiger Den.

Student IdentificationStudents must possess their ID at all times.

Failure to identify oneself to an administrator, teacher, or otheremployee may result in disciplinary action.

Student MessagesDue to staff limitations, telephone messages to students are limitedto emergencies. Messages will not be delivered during exams.

Student PassesIt is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for a student passwhenever it becomes necessary to leave the room. Students in thehall without a student pass will be sent back to the room that theyleft to obtain a pass.

Power FailureIn the event of a power failure, administrators or designees willsupervise each hall or area on campus. Students will not bedismissed from any class nor change classes until the decision ismade by the principal that student movement is safe. For your ownsafety in this situation, please follow the directions given by yourteacher and assistant principal.

Verification of EnrollmentA Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form is required for acquiring adriver license or renewing a driver’s license. VOE’s will be issued tostudents meeting the attendance rules required by the state ofTexas. In order to receive a VOE, students must also have cleared allfees and fines. Students must request a VOE form 24 hours inadvance in their AP office.

During the summer months, verification of enrollment forms can beobtained through the receptionist at the front office.

VisitorsAll visitors need to stop in the main office and check in. Please bringyour driver’s license so that we can issue you a visitor’s badge. Thisis for the safety of our students.

WithdrawalAny student who finds it necessary to withdraw from school shouldstart the withdrawal process with the Registrar’s office. Each studentwithdrawing must meet with his or her assistant principal in order tocomplete the withdrawal process. ID’s and textbooks must bereturned upon withdrawal.
