Its hard to believe were already beginning
Octoberthis year seems to have flown by. Weve
moved into a very warm spring here already. Im
hoping its not a sign of a scorcher summer, but well
see soon enough.
We are preparing for quite an October. In a few
weeks, I (Christie) will have another surgery on my
leg, from the accident that broke my left femur back in
February. This time the doctor will, with the help of
the Lord, correct the bad position of the bone by
cutting it almost in two, taking out a wedge, and
resetting it. Hell put in a larger metal plate this time,
and about twice as many screws. The good news is
that the first plate and screws, which have been
causing a lot of pain, will be removed at the same
time, rather than having two separate surgeries andrecoveries. So theres a bit of a silver lining in the
cloud. The surgeon feels very hopeful about this
procedure and we are praying that the damage can all
be corrected in this one surgery.
I shared on our blog that part of the difficulty in this
period of rehab is that weve had to put several crucial
parts of our ministry on pause in order to focus on my
learning to walk again. After this surgery, the doctor
said we can expect a similar recovery, starting back
over at ground zero. However, this time around there
should be much better results and Ill be able to get
back to normal in 2012. Thank God that Hes been
with us every step of the way and still puts His hand in
our daily lives.

Many peoples will come and say, "Come, letus go up to the mountain of the LORD...He will teach us his ways, so that we maywalk in his paths." Isaiah 2:3
As I mentioned, the original plan was to only remove
the plate and screws, go through therapy again, and
then reset the bone in a later operation. While Im
thrilled to get this over with all at once, were
having to scramble now with this change in plans.
The pricetag on this surgery is much higher, and were
arranging our home and schedule to accommodate this
more involved recovery. The young lady who was
borrowing my wheelchair and walker is walking on
her own again now, so we at least have a head start on
that sort of thing. Thankfully, both sets of our parents
are planning a visit to coincide with the hospital stay.
So Camille and Caroline are REALLY looking
forward to my surgery and Ken and I are definitely
excited that our parents will be visiting soon. Please
pray for safe travel for them, for Gods presence
during and after the surgery, and for financial
provision to cover this next step.

A few times in September, we were able to visit the
town we lived and worked in until the accident. The Loma
Clavel school is doing well and the students all look quite
handsome in their new tennis shoes. The trips to Carapegu are
always a little bittersweet,
since we enjoy seeing the
people and encouraging them,
but not without a twinge of
sadness for the way we had
to leave so quickly. We were
able to touch base with some
of the young people who were
part of the core group in our ministry
there, and we were excited to find
theyd been continuing in their walk
with the Lord and in
developing their talents
for His use.
We are continuing with the weekly Bible study with
7th
and 8th
graders of the school here on the grounds
of the Hogar Ganar childrens home. This month we
dealt with some really pertinent topics in the lives of
teenagers, and they really opened up more than
normal. Seems like somebodys praying!
We also began Bible classes in a public elementary
school in town this month, sharing the story of the
Gospel with the preschool-6th
graders every
Wednesday morning and afternoon.
The school year will end in a couple of months, so it
was a surprise that they opened the doors to us to
begin a new class this close to summer break.
After class this past week, one of the teachersinvited me to a ladies dinner that evening, where
several women from the community get together
and share what Gods doing in their lives. These
women are from all denominations, but they come
together to pray for each other and share their
testimonies. I really enjoyed the meeting, and
theyve invited me to be a regular participant.
Thank you once again for your
encouragement, your support, and mostimportantly, your prayers for our family
and for the people of this country. You
share in the ministry that takes part here,
and we dont take it lightly to be your
partners in the mission work. May God
bless you as you have blessed us!!
