ALL SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Nurse:

The Benefits of Well-Child Visits:

Prevention. Your child gets scheduled immunizations to prevent illness. You also can ask your pedia-trician about nutrition and safety in the home and at school.

Tracking growth and development. See how much your child has grown in the time since your last

visit, and talk with your doctor about your child's development. You can discuss your child's mile-stones, social behaviors and learning.

Raising concerns. Make a list of topics you want to talk about with your child's pediatrician such as

development, behavior, sleep, eating or getting along with other family members. Team approach. Regular visits create strong, trustworthy relationships among pediatrician, parent

and child. The AAP recommends well-child visits as a way for pediatricians and parents to serve the needs of children. This team approach helps develop optimal physical, mental and social health of a child.

(From the American Academy of Pediatrics)

All incoming 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th graders must provide a completed medical form to the nurse office by September 2018. Medical forms available online.

LOWER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we prepare to welcome Ramadan next week I want to remind Lower School parents of the importance of adequate sleep and proper nutrition for all children. Understanding the sanctity and importance of the fasting tradition, we seek to partner with parents in finding the balance between honoring tradition and caring for growing bodies throughout the school day. To this end, 4th and 5th grade parents may give written permission for their child(ren) to fast during school (via the form sent home with your student). We ask, however, that all students 3rd grade and younger eat at school per their regular snack and lunch schedule.

As I wrote last week, our character trait for May is perseverance. This is intentionally and wonderfully timed as May can be a challenging time to push through to the end of each task, day, and week. We are working hard with your children to instill the importance of perseverance in all they do, and we appreci-ate your partnership in this, and all, endeavors as together we equip minds and build character at GWA! Bon weekend, Kevin Brenner Lower School Principal

UPPER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS This week the Upper School would like to feature a newcomer to the French Department, Hind Mou-tai. Ms. Moutai is teaching 11th and 12th grade French and the Histoire du Maroc class. She is currently completing her Ph.D.in Civilisations francophones et compares University at the Université Hassan II of Casablanca Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to become a teacher because it's an exciting and a demanding job: being constantly up to date,

alert and attentive to students' progress, building relationships, contributing to the construction of the fu-

ture society....All these reasons and many others justify my career choice everyday. I also discovered new

ones that support this decision..

What do you most enjoy about teaching the French Language to High School students? Working every day with high school students is a real challenge. I like teaching and I like even more to see the result of my work. In High school, this result can be noticed quickly. In addition, as students are build-ing their character, they often ask very interesting questions that lead to deep discussions. Building good relationships with students is also very important because it greatly influences the learning process: when students feel confident, it's much easier for them to learn and grow. What do you enjoy doing when you are not teaching? I love traveling! So I seize every opportunity (weekend, holidays ...) to discover new places and new cul-tures, or to revisit the places I have already visited and loved as a kind of pilgrimage that leads to peace and serenity. Aside from that, I like reading a lot , whether it's related to my Phd thesis or not - and writing literary arti-cles. What is one thing you enjoy about teaching at GWA? When I joined GWA, I had only one desire: to work within a real family, and I must say that I was not disappointed. From what I've seen so far, the whole school ( students and staff) form a united and an admirable community. It is interesting to see each staff member involved in school life, take inter-est in each case and does everything they can to help stu-dents who, for the most part, are considerate, polite and car-ing. Teaching in such an atmosphere is a real pleasure and waking up everyday in the morning becomes more easier.
