GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their personal best

GW Mission: We will provide a welcoming and safe learning environment which meets the unique

academic, physical, and social-emotional needs of each student. We will work together using meaningful,

measurable, and aligned data to guide our decisions and actions to promote student growth.

GW TARGETS: SAFETY STANDARDS EMERGING STUDENTS

• Provide a safe,

healthful, and expansive

environment.

• Maximize student

achievement by supporting

effective instruction aligned

to state standards.

• Promote engaging

learning opportunities

for all students,

inclusive of emerging

students, inside and

outside the classroom.

Message from

Mrs. Gates:

Our Golden West faculty and staff look forward to welcoming our 49ers back on campus. We miss

our students and families! Many of our staff members have put a lot of careful thought and time into the

many details surrounding safety. We appreciate you taking the time to review our Return to School Phase

2 plan with your child(ren), prior to the first day on campus. We will continually monitor our protocols

and procedures, and quickly make any necessary adjustments to ensure safety. Please know, our routines

and procedures will look different and they were all developed with keeping safety in mind first. We

welcome and value your input. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 209-858-7300. I

always share it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you for being a part of our village and sharing

your child with us. Remember our mantra:

PRIDE in yourself. PRIDE in your school. PRIDE in everything you do!

Purpose: The purpose of this document is to provide a detailed description of what the CDC guidelines look like in

the Golden West School setting, specific to the Blended Learning Model proposed by Manteca Unified

School District. It is understood that details of this description may change as recommendations from the

CDC are modified. It is also understood that some items in this description are contingent upon the final

agreement between the school district and bargaining unit members.

Phase 2: Hybrid Learning model: 50% of the class is on campus and 50% of the class is off campus each day.

Students will be assigned to attendance days of alternating days. Group A will be Mon./Th. in person and

Distance Learning Tues./Friday; Group B will be Tuesday/Friday in person and Mon./Th. Distance

learning. Both A and B groups will have only Distance Learning on Wednesdays. Class size will remain

low at 12-17 students in single A/B grade level groups. It maintains small class sizes and maximizes social

distancing guidelines. The program allows for part day on-site resident learning. Students who receive

special education services based on their IEP will receive in-person full day instruction during Phase 2.

Teachers will be supplied with two 22” monitors, a docking station, soundbar, webcam, surge protector

and all necessary cables.

Visitors Office Hours: 7:45am to 3:45pm.

Only MUSD employees and students will be allowed on campus. Non-essential visitors will be limited.

The front office is open to the public. Families will be limited to just one adult in the office and only one

family at a time. GW will follow safety precautions for visitors arriving our campus. All visitors must

observe social distancing guidelines, wear a face covering, and sign-in on a health screening form

disclosing the date of the visit, name, and best contact information prior to entering the office and a

contactless temperature check upon entry. Our office space has a plastic screening as a safety precaution

at the reception area to protect both the employee and campus visitor. GW will not allow normal visitation

to our campus until further notice.

Please do not come onto campus if you have been in close contact with a person who is lab confirmed, or

being quarantined waiting for results, to have COVID-19, have a cough, shortness of breath, chills,

repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting,

feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater or equal to 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

We encourage you to call ahead of time so that we may help you prepare for your visit or answer your

questions on the phone. We ask for your patience as our office staff assist others on the phone or in person

as quickly as possible.

Daily Health Check

& Protocols:

Students and employees are required to complete a daily self-screening before reporting to campus,

which includes a temperature reading and answering a set of questions related to COVID-19 symptoms.

All screening information will be kept confidential by Human Resources and Health Services.

Individuals will cover their cough or sneeze with a tissue and then dispose of the tissue in the trash. They

will follow this with hand washing or using hand sanitizer.

Students and employees are not to be at school if they show any symptoms of illness. Call in student

absences at 209-858-7305.

Page 4: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

Arrival:

Students may not be on campus prior to 7:45 am. The parking lot is designated for staff parking only

and visitors reporting to the office. Families dropping off/picking up students for school need to use the

drop off/pick up lane.

During Phase 2, students will be broken into 2 groups (A and B) to attend school on alternating days.

They will only be allowed on campus on their scheduled school day, not other days of the week.

Our goal is to minimize contact at school between students, staff, families, and community at the

beginning (and end) of the day

Vehicle drop off is preferred and encouraged to be done at the front of the school in the drop off/pick up

lane and not at the back of the school near the crossing area on Poplar to ease congestion at the crossing

and for the safety of all.

Walkers, bike riders and scooter riders must enter at the back of the school on Poplar. Adults will be

required to wait on the public sidewalk while the child(ren) independently walk through the alley/walkway

on to campus. Please always maintain social distancing.

• Exception: Adults walking a Kindergarten student without other siblings will not be allowed to

enter the back of the school to ensure safety. Please enter the front of the school, walking on the

sidewalk near the entrance to the parking lot/Walgreens side of the school. Please always

remember to social distance from others.

Parents and visitors will not be allowed on campus. This includes the first day of instruction.

Administrators and School Site Assistants will be available to support students who struggle with

separation during the first days of school.

Arrival (and dismissal) will be monitored. Students will enter through separate gates, as determined by

their transportation mode and grade level. We encourage all parents/guardians who will be driving their

student(s) to school to utilize the drop off lane at the front of the school for arrival and departure.

Walkers, Bike riders and Scooter riders will enter at the back of the school. Families and students may not

gather at arrival (or dismissal) to socialize with other families/students.

the school to ensure safety. The student will enter the glass doors near the office and be guided to

the classroom. Please always remember to social distance from others.

Late Arrivals:

Instruction begins at 8am in the classroom.

Students who arrive late by car will enter the front gate to the north of the gym and if walking, riding a

bike or scooter will enter the back gate and meet the School Site Assistant at the ramp near P1.

The SSA will document the tardy, provide the student with a late pass and will direct the student to class.

Teachers will be in their classroom 15 minutes prior to the students’ start time. Their door will be propped

open so that students may directly enter the classroom upon arrival.

Parents are expected to drop their child(ren) beginning at 7:45am, at the appropriate gate, and to allow

their student to walk independently to their classroom and arrive by 8am. No parents will be allowed on

campus. This includes the first day of instruction. All gates will close 15 minutes after the start of

instructional time.

Page 7: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

Late Arrivals

continued:

If your child will arrive beyond 15 minutes past the start of their designated instructional time, you will

need to call the office so that an adult can meet your child at the glass doors and allow admittance to

campus at that time.

Attendance:

Participation and Attendance are important. Teachers will monitor both and notify the Attendance Clerk if

students show a pattern of not attending/participating, or there appears to be an increase in absenteeism in

the class.

The Attendance Clerk will communicate with the Vice Principal when concerns arise. The Attendance

Clerk and Vice Principal will also discuss student attendance bi-weekly. The Vice Principal will

communicate with families as indicated.

Breakfast & Lunch: Student bag lunches and breakfasts will be served in the students’ classrooms for the group on campus.

Kindergarten students on campus will take their lunch home at dismissal. First through eighth grade

students on campus will eat in the classroom under the direction of the School Site Assistant. Nutrition

Education will either continue to operate the drive through meal pick up for students who are not on

campus, or breakfasts and lunch in a grab and go bag will be sent home for the distance learning day. If

the second option is chosen, there will not be a drive through meal service offered as meals will be

distributed the day prior. Students may bring their own lunch from home.

In the Classroom:

All students in grades third through eighth are required to wear a mask. Kindergarten through second is

highly encouraged.

Upon entering the classroom, students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. If more than one

student enters at the same time, they will take turns leaving their desks to wash their hands or utilize hand

sanitizer. There will be no congregating at the sink. Teacher have been provided with a contactless

thermometer and have the option to take temperatures at their discretion.

All classroom seating will be set 3-6 feet apart where feasible. The teacher desk will be 6 feet from

student desks. Students should be facing in one direction or away from each other when feasible.

Implement turning in assignments to minimize contact.

Page 8: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

In the Classroom

continued:

Individuals will cover their cough or sneeze with a tissue and then dispose of the tissue in the trash. They

will follow this with hand washing or using hand sanitizer.

Students may bring only necessary items in their backpacks as no coat racks, cubbies or bins will be made

available. They will place jackets and outerwear on the back of their chair and their backpack next to their

desk where they can easily access it. Student supplies must fit in student pencil boxes. No items are to be

kept within the desk. Students may also wish to bring a small, personal-sized bottle of perfume-free hand

lotion to be used after handwashing or hand sanitizing. Students are encouraged to bring a full water bottle

with them each day as water fountains may be closed. The district will provide one (1) water bottle per

child.

Sanitizing wipes will be readily available for the teacher should he or she need to touch a student’s device

or materials. There will be no sharing of books through classroom libraries or the school library. There

will also be no sharing of other textbooks or supplies such as student devices, pencils, or manipulatives.

Teachers will ensure that any materials or supplies such as whiteboard markers, rulers, etc. used by the “A

Group” of students is put away until it can be sanitized. A new, separate set of materials and supplies are

brought out for the “B Group.” Items will not be shared during the day unless sanitized in between

sharing.

Grade 4-6th teachers will consider redesigning activities for independent participation or smaller group and

arranging furniture and spaces to maintain separation.

Grade 7-8th, when feasible, teachers will rotate instead of students and avoidance of close physical

proximity in cases of increased exhalation (singing, exercise); these activities are safest outdoors and

spread out.

Non-Classroom

Space:

The following strategies will be considered as thoughtful safeguards when students are in shared spaces:

Minimize movement through hallways as much as practicable; Recess/break times will be held in

separated areas as allowed by CDC, Public Health as feasible; Non-essential/informal gatherings will be

avoided; No rallies, assemblies or other large events until the County Health Officer deems it safe; A

Health/Isolation room for students who are not feeling well to minimize contact with others; Essential on-

site meetings will follow In-Person Meeting Protocols which include safety protocols such as physical

distancing and mask wearing.

Page 9: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

Restroom Use: Students are encouraged to use the restroom during the 10-minute break provided to their class. Breaks

will be staggered to avoid long periods of waiting. The restrooms in the F-Wing will generally be

designated for 3-5th grade students. D-Wing restrooms will be used for Kinder, without a restroom in the

class, through 2nd grade students. C-wing restrooms will be designated for 6-8th grade students. Break

times will be monitored by School Site Assistants and Paraprofessionals so that teachers may also take

care of their personal needs. Playgrounds and water fountains are closed.

During class time, only one student from any class will be allowed to go to the restroom at a time except in

emergency situations where it will be stressed that students are to walk separately and keep their hands,

feet and objects to themselves. School Site Assistants will monitor hallways and restrooms to encourage

appropriate behavior and immediate return to the classroom after use of the facilities.

Upon returning to class, students will use hand sanitizer. There will also be a designated restroom for

students that become ill during the day. It is indicated on the map as DR—designated restroom. It will be

open to staff unless a need arises.

Technology:

Student device problems will be resolved remotely whenever possible. A device problem should be

reported immediately to the teacher. A Help Ticket will be created. If a device requires in-person

technology support, the technician will first sanitize the device before handling it with the proper PPE. In

some cases, the devices may be placed in a 24-hour hold before handling it. A loaner device will be issued

to the student. Protective sleeves have been purchased for devices in grades Kindergarten through Third

Grade.

Presenting

symptoms while on

campus:

If a student shows any signs of illness or complains of any illness, teachers will immediately contact the

office and the student will immediately report to the school’s dedicated Health and Safety Room (P-7) with

his/her belongs, and be monitored by an SSA or administrator. An incident/case form will be completed by

a school nurse or designee. The administrator or Office Manager will contact the family/emergency

contact to pick-up the student. Pick up will be done at the black gate to the north of the office.

If an employee becomes ill on campus, he/she will immediately notify his/her supervisor and report to the

school’s dedicated Health and Safety Room (P-7). An incident/case form will be completed by a school

nurse or designee and arrangements made for the employee to go home.

Page 10: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

Health/Isolation

Room:

Upon arrival at the Health/Isolation Room, the student or employee will immediately be provided a mask

and gloves. The school nurse or designee will assess the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and advise

individuals identified as a close contact. A parent/guardian or emergency contact member will be notified

of symptoms and directions will be given, including picking up of the student (or employee).

Dismissal:

Prior to dismissal, students will pack up their belongings. All items brought to school by a student will be

taken home by them at the end of their scheduled school day. Students will take turns washing their hands

or using hand sanitizer before leaving the classroom.

Students will exit through their arrival gate. Generally, walkers, bike riders and scooter riders exit at the

Poplar Gate and students traveling by car at the front gate(s). The only exception is for students attending

GECAC. GECAC students walk and be greeted by a GECAC staff member as they enter P5/P6.

Primary (1-3) students dismiss earlier than intermediate (4-6) and junior high (7-8) students. If a younger

sibling needs to walk home with their older sibling, the siblings will meet on campus near the gate in the

designated waiting area with the School site Assistant.

Teachers will walk students to their respective dismissal location, observing social distancing guidelines of

6 feet between students. Primary age (K-3) students may require assistance doing this by holding onto a

guideline with marks or knots at 6-foot intervals.

Parents are expected to pick-up students within 15 minutes of dismissal unless the student is attending the

GECAC after school program. (Space is limited).

Students need to remain within the gated area utilizing social distancing until the car is nearing the

crossing/pick up area.. Primary students (1-3) may exit with their sibling. If the student does not have a

sibling, he our she should notify the School Site Assistant when the car is nearing the crossing/pick up

area.

Physical Distancing will be in effect: stay at least 6 ft. from other people, do not gather in groups, stay out

of crowded areas, and refrain from gathering to socialize with students/families.

Page 11: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

Confirmed Case

Protocols:

If a confirmed case of COVID-19 is reported, the District’s Internal Health Services department will work

to identify any close contacts of the confirmed case and assess the risk of exposure. A notice will be sent

via email or phone informing close contacts of the known exposure.

Close contacts of the confirmed individual will be instructed to home quarantine for 14 days post exposure.

If there is an identified cluster, three or more individuals from different households, MUSD will notify

SJCHS as advised.

Consideration of

Partial/Total

School Closure:

School closure will be recommended based on the number of cases, the percentage of the

teacher/student/staff that are positive for COVID-19 and following consultation with the SJPHS Officer.

School closure may be appropriate when there are multiple cases in multiple cohorts at a school or when

5% of the total number of teachers, students and/or staff are diagnosed as cases within a 14-day period. If

a partial or total school closure is warranted, families will be contacted and a swift transition to Phase 1

will occur.

Anyone with a fever of 100.4 or higher, signs or symptoms of COVID-19, and/or that has been exposed to

someone with COVID-19 must NOT enter a school/MUSD campus. Employees and students are required

to conduct a daily, home self-screening which includes a temperature reading and answering a set of

questions related to COVID-19 signs and symptoms before coming to campus each day. Families are

encouraged to do the same.

Social Distancing &

PPE on Campus:

All individuals will follow social distancing guidelines while moving about campus. There will be no

gatherings or combining of classes for assemblies, field trips or rallies. Please refer to the campus map

posted for traffic direction, as well as signs posted. Signage will be placed throughout the campus to assist

students with traffic direction, cleaned facilities, social distancing, and healthy hygiene habits. The goal of

the signs is to empower students to be safe, responsible, and respectful of each other.

Students in grades 3-8 are required to wear universal face coverings per the California Public Health

Department. Face coverings are encouraged for students in grades K-2. Parents may provide their student

with a face covering at their discretion.

Page 12: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

Social Distancing &

PPE on Campus

continued:

The district will provide cloth face coverings for staff (4 per staff) and students (2 per student). Teachers

will be provided with 2 face shields and a sneeze guard to start the year by the district. A list of all

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by the district is located on the attached “Reopening of

School Checklist.” Social distancing should still be practiced even with the use of gloves and masks.

Gloves and masks are available in various areas on campus. Staff also has disinfecting spray and towels to

sanitize surfaces.

Staff and students will be monitored throughout the day for signs of illness. Each classroom and office will

be supplied with one contactless handheld thermometer. Teachers may take temperatures at the door. Staff

has been trained on the best practices to limit the spread of COVID-19, including wearing a mask, physical

distancing at a 6 ft. distance, washing/sanitizing hands often, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

Coughing and sneezing into a tissue or inside the elbow.

In addition to the use of PPE, good hygiene practices are for students to: Wash hands often with soap and

water for at least 20 seconds; Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, if soap and water are

unavailable; Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth; and Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when

coughing/sneezing or use the inside of elbow.

Facility Safety:

Custodial staff will be cleaning the classroom daily following student dismissal at a minimum. Generally

used items objects such as handles, sinks, light switches will be cleaned twice daily (before and after

school). Common areas such as the library, gym, etc. deemed as essential will be cleaned at the end of

each day/use. Additionally, school site assistants, teachers and/or paraprofessionals will be sanitizing high

touch points throughout the day. Employees are encouraged to disinfect their personal workspace

throughout the day. See the Sanitizing Schedule attached. Teachers will be provided with a duty-free

lunch and grade level collaboration or prep during this time.

Extensive cleaning will be triggered when an active employee or student has been identified with a

confirmed or assessed likely case of COVID-19. After a 24-hour vacancy, disinfecting of the area will

begin as per public health guidelines. While the scope of disinfecting will be based on the circumstance

surrounding the extent the individual has been in specific areas of the campus, the area will be shut down

until the comprehensive disinfection is completed.

Page 13: GW Vision: Supporting students to grow and achieve their ...€¦ · repeated shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, feeling

This plan is subject to change and updates will be made based on latest information provided by the officials and other applicable federal, state, and local agencies, as well as negotiations.

Facility Safety

continued:

Drinking fountains will be converted into hand washing stations or water bottle filling stations. Water

bottle filling stations will be installed.

Signage will be posted throughout campus that indicates traffic direction, cleaned facilities, social

distancing footprints, etc.

Office spaces will have plastic screening as a safety precaution to protect employees and campus visitors.

Thermometers will be available in every classroom and the office.

Wall-mounted hand sanitizers are in every classroom as well as in the hallways, staff lounge, gym, and

library.

Hand washing stations have been set up outside the office entrance area, P5- P6, and near P-7 – P-9 and

the walkway between building C and D.

When and where possible, interior doors will remain open to decrease the use of handles.

The site has gone through a thorough checklist to ensure that each room and space on campus has what is

needed to receive students.

MUSD Employees

are required to

wear face

coverings when:

• Interacting in-person with any member of the public

• Working in any space visited by the public, regardless whether anyone from the public is present at the

time

• Working in any space where food is prepared or packaged for sale or distribution to others

• Working in or walking through common areas, such as hallways, stairways, elevators, restrooms, and

parking facilities

• In any room or enclosed area where other people are present when unable to physically distance
