“Educating and caring for the whole child”
Welcome back to the 2019 school year. We hope that
all families had a wonderful holiday break and are
feeling refreshed and excited for a great year ahead.
Last week we were surprised with many new student
enrolments that we had not anticipated, which has
required us to increase our mainstream classes from 7
to 8 this year. We now have 8 classes from K-6 and
also our 3 Support Unit classes.
We warmly welcome our new Kindergarten students
and many new students and families to Guise PS. I am
positive that they will all settle in very quickly to our
fantastic school.
School Improvements Over the school holidays we had further improvement
work carried out around the school. Firstly, we had the old
roof tiles replaced with metal roofing on two of our
building blocks. In addition, we had the installation of our
final section of synthetic grass to finish this playground
area, for the students to enjoy.
School Leaders 2019 Our school leaders and SRC representatives for 2019 will
be presented with their leadership badges at the
induction assembly on Tuesday 12 February at 9.10am in
the hall. I am sure these students will do a wonderful job
in their new positions.
Just a reminder that our school leaders for 2019 are:
School Captains – Selitha H and OJ V
School Vice Captains – Lisita M and Jaxon N
Prefects – Logan P and PJ S
Uniforms It has been very pleasing to see so many students start
the year in full school uniform and the children in black
school shoes look wonderful. Just a reminder that we have
a standard short and skort in navy blue to match our
shirts, so all students are wearing the same uniform
bottom. If you need uniform items please contact the
office to place an order. When buying socks the colour is
white for girls and navy blue for boys. There are three
styles of school hat to choose from and all students must
wear one of our school hats. No other hats will be
accepted.
Skoolbag App As you know our school has our own Skoolbag iPhone,
Android and Windows App which is free to download. This
app helps us to communicate more effectively with our
parent community. We are asking parents/carers to
install our Skoolbag School App. To install it, just search
for the free Skoolbag app in either the Apple App Store,
or Google Play Store.
For Windows Phone, and Windows 8.1 or 10 users, search
for Skoolbag in the Windows store, and install the app and
find your school.
Step by step instructions to install the app on various
devices are included in this newsletter.
Medical Information and Emergency Contact We require information from parents/carers about your
child’s health, even if you are not requesting specific
support from school. Our school asks for medical
information when you enrol your child. It is also important
that you let us know if your child’s health care needs
change or if a new health condition develops.
Information about allergies, medical conditions such as
asthma and diabetes, and other health care related issues
(including prior conditions such as medical procedures in
the last 12 months) should be provided in writing to the
front office. This will greatly assist our school in planning
to support your child’s health and wellbeing.
We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure
you that any information you provide to the school will be
stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order
to support your child’s health needs or as otherwise
required by law.
Please also remember to notify staff in the school office
of any changes to your contact details or to the contact
details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.
We appreciate your assistance in keeping us updated
about medical information and emergency contact details.
School Procedures At Guise PS the safety and security of your children is
paramount and the school has procedures in place that
have been implemented for parents/carers and any
visitors who come in to school grounds during the course
of the day. If at any time you need to come into school
grounds for any reason, visitors and parents/carers must
come in through the front gate and go to the front office.
There you can be signed in as a special visitor if need be
or have your child paged to the office if leaving school
early. At no time should any parent/carer go directly to a
classroom or to the playground if at school. If there are
things that you need delivered to the classroom please
bring it to the front office and we will see it gets there
by lunchtime. Messages can also be passed on via the
office.
Your assistance with following these school procedures is
greatly appreciated.
P&C News
School Banking
is on Friday Remember, Friday is School Banking day and students
should bring in their weekly deposit.
P&C Annual General Meeting The P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on
Wednesday 6 March, starting at 9.15am.
In this meeting, office bearer positions will be elected.
The positions elected will be President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer. All parents and carers are
encouraged to attend and become a financial member of
the P&C – only $2 for membership.
P&C Sausage Sizzle The P&C will be holding a sausage sizzle for students on
Friday 8 March. Please look out for the note in the next
few weeks to pre-order a sausage sandwich for $2.
Family Partnership Meetings One of our major goals in our school plan is improving on
family partnerships with the school. Therefore, again
this year, we will be holding ‘Family Partnership
Meetings’ where class teachers will meet one-on-one
with parents/carers and students. During these
meetings, parents/carers will have the opportunity to
talk with their child’s class teacher and discuss
important information pertaining to their child and will
receive detailed information from the teacher regarding
daily and weekly routines in the classroom. Another
major part of these meetings will be the establishment
of personalised goals for each student to work towards
throughout the first semester. These goals will be
developed by the teacher, parent/carer and students
and will be reviewed as part of our reporting process at
the end of Semester One.
We understand that families are very busy and it can
sometimes be hard to meet with your child’s teacher. For
this reason, we will be offering meetings at school, at
your home or over the telephone. Whichever avenue best
suits your family, we can accommodate.
‘Family Partnership Meetings’ will be held in Week 5.
This week, you would have received detailed information
regarding booking a time with your child’s teacher and
some tips for thinking about some goals you would like to
set for your child.
We are a team in the education of your child and we look
forward to meeting with all families throughout Week 5
to ensure each and every student is known, understood
and challenged to achieve their personal best.
Lastly, included in the newsletter is a staff list for 2019,
which outlines class teachers, executive staff, School
Learning and Support Officers and Administrative
staff.
We look forward to 2019 being a very rewarding year
for our students and school community. If at any time
you need to discuss any issues please speak firstly to
your child’s classroom teacher and then if needed with
the Team Supervisor (Mrs Mitchell for KR, K/1W, IL and
2MR; Mrs Dobinson for 3T, 3/4H, 4/5B and 6D; or Mrs
Davies for Support Unit classes), or make an
appointment through the front office.
Have a wonderful week!
