Guidelines Before School Care

Time: •  Arrive no later than 7:25 am to make sure the door is unlocked and the room

is clean, and be ready to receive the students. Sign in for service hours. Monday service monitor collects service hour form from the office and puts it room 107. Friday monitor turns it in to the office at the end of the week.

•  Depart after all K – 6 students have been released to their classes (around 8:15).

Before School Care Guidelines •  It would be good if one of the monitors has a whistle to blow whenever

needed to quiet all the students to give instructions •  It is very important for monitors to stay with the students in the classroom.

Monitors will make sure these regulations are followed: 1.  All students are to enter the room respectfully and be in a seat sitting

properly. 2.  Students may read quietly or study. 3.  Students should not eat food or fool around. 4.  Students can talk only with the peers nearby, keeping the volume down

(volume must be under control – not rowdy or unnecessary loud voices or noise).

5.  Students must use appropriate language (no inappropriate words or behavior allowed; please let the teachers know if such incident occurs).

6.  Students must ask permission to go to the bathroom and drink water – (one boy or one girl at a time).

Guidelines Lunch Monitoring

Meeting in August with Lunch Monitors •  Gather before school begins to meet each other and pray together. (It’s very

good to know each other and who are each other’s children) – Mrs. Bautista has been the designated responsible person to meet with parents

•  Go over rules, procedures and appropriate clothing •  Receive assigned weekly schedule for service •  Review list of students assigned to the tables and the tables assigned to

parent/helper (This list will be posted on the wall of the building) Time: •  Arrive at 11:20 am to make sure tables and area are clean and ready to

receive the students. •  Depart once tables and area are clean.

Designation of Tables and Regulations during lunch: •  There should be 3 lunch monitors to keep this time under control. •  Every monitor is assigned 3 tables. •  It would be good if one of the monitors has a whistle to blow whenever

needed to quiet all the students to give instructions. •  It is very important for monitors to stay with their designated tables and not

move around to other tables or be conversing with other monitors in order to keep the area safe and under constant supervision.

•  Monitors will make sure these regulations are followed. •  All students should be in their designated seats sitting properly •  Students should all be eating their food – never throw food or fool

around while eating.

PROPER TABLE MANNERS MUST BE SHOWN AT ALL TIMES. •  Microwaves are NOT to be used to heat up food. •  Students can talk only with the peers at their table, but must keep the

volume down (volume must be under control – no rowdy or unnecessary loud voices or noise).

•  Students must use appropriate language (no inappropriate words or behavior allowed; please let the teachers know if such incident occurs)

•  Students must ask permission to go to the bathroom and drink water – please make sure they are reminded (one boy or one girl per monitor) – check on how much time they take so others get the opportunity of going to the bathroom. They each should not take more than approximately 3-4 minutes.

•  Watch for students sharing food or throwing away food – it’s better for them to put the left overs in their lunch boxes so parents are aware how much the student is eating.

•  No burping in a rude way (trying to be funny). In this matter we show respect to others.

•  Students should clean up after themselves – pick up and throw away trash on the table, underneath the table, and leave tables clean for the upper school students to use. Then monitors can dismiss the students to line up in an orderly way. (Do not dismiss table until it is completely clean.)

Guidelines Lunch Monitoring

PROPER TABLE MANNERS MUST BE SHOWN AT ALL TIMES (CONTINUED) •  At 11:57, Students must line up quickly and in an orderly manner. Students

stay in line at all times until their arrival at their next station. No talking is allowed in line while being dismissed to Half-Time Huddle, playground or classroom, no playing around, no swinging lunch boxes, no jumping, running, or climbing allowed.

•  Every monitor will make sure to wipe clean their assigned tables by the end of lunch

Consequence: •  Warning, Check on Effort Chart, Purple Slip, Principal’s Office •  Lunch monitors must give a warning to student, but if the student persists in

not making wise choices a check needs to be given to the student. Please notify the teacher by text or send a note with one of the students.

•  Any disrespectful attitude, word, or conduct shown to any adult, monitor, or teacher will result in a check being issued.

•  A purple slip may be written if after speaking with the teacher and Mr. Miller, they decide it’s necessary.

Guidelines Recess Monitoring

Recess for the 1st/2nd grade class typically follows Half-Time Huddle each Monday-Thursday (12:20-12:50 pm) and from 1:10-1:40 on Fridays. Parents should meet the students at the east MPR door at 12:20 pm each day. Once the classes are in straight and quiet lines, please escort them to the recess area. While the children play, please carefully monitor to ensure they are safe, inclusive, and under control. If any problems arise, please be sure to let the homeroom teacher know when you drop the students back off to their teachers. At 12:40 pm, give the students at 5 minute warning. At 12:45 pm, ask the students to quietly line up at the playground gate. Escort the quiet line to the bathrooms. Allow the students to use the restroom and get a drink of water. Please ensure that the students are focusing on going to the bathroom, washing their hands, and interacting quietly. When they are done using the restroom, they can line up in two lines (one for each grade) under the green canopy between the MPR and room 106. Once both lines are quiet and ready, please walk the students to wait outside of their classroom at 12:50 pm. Have the line leader knock on the classroom door. When the teacher receives the students, please communicate any recess issues that the teacher should be aware of.

Recess Expectations for Students: 1.  Walk in line to the playground after Half-Time Huddle. 2.  Remain quiet in line along the fence until you are given permission to enter the

playground. 3.  Follow instructions given by all adults and show respect for others on the

playground. 4.  All students should include any student who would like to play a group game on

the playground. 5.  There should be no excessive screaming on the playground. 6.  No throwing of rocks, bark, sticks and other dangerous objects. 7.  Stop what you are doing immediately when the whistle blows and go to your

line. (Don’t forget your sweaters or jackets.) 8.  Voice level in line to the restroom, in the restroom, and after the restroom

should not be above a whisper. (Other students are in class.)

Guidelines After School Care

Arrive 15 minutes early by 2:30 p.m. to be prepared to receive the children: •  Make sure tables and chairs are set up for students to have an optimal study

environment. •  Prep or have snack ready ahead of time. •  Greet students as they enter and instruct them to sit down in their places. (I

you are familiar with a good of idea of where it is best to seat them so they can focus on getting some homework done)

•  3:00 Take attendance and sign in each student by name and time of arrival. •  Students can come in and accomplish their reading first since that is

something everyone can do without help and most have the same requirement of 20 minutes a day. Set a timer so students can know how long they have read and they can log it immediately after.

3:30-4:00 Playground and snack break Guidelines for caregiver: ALWAYS accompany children to the playground and NEVER leave children alone in the classroom. If someone prefers to read or do homework, have them do it at the picnic table outside with you there. Children must be under supervision at all times. If anyone has to go to the bathroom, send them in groups of two and be mindful to check on them if they take too long.

Guidelines After School Care

4:00-4:30 Homework time in the room Bring children in and oversee a productive work time to get as much done as they can so they will have less to do at home. 4:30-5:00 Students may be done with work so have other activities on hand or permitted for their enjoyment. We allow: As long as it's not distracting to others and after homework is checked off (coloring, reading, etc.). No card games No electronic devices Children may not bring things from school to trade or sell. No electronic devices, magazines, catalogues or books outside of our Acaciawood standards for proper development are allowed. Caregivers should not be on the phone, but they should have their phone with them for emergencies and parent notification communication.

Guidelines After School Care

Caregivers should NEVER leave the classroom before ALL children are picked up, even if a parent is late. Report to the office if a parent is late, but always put the safety of the child first. Tidy the room and leave it the way it was or better than when you arrived. You can make the students clean up their own messes if they contribute to the disarray. Always communicate anything questionable or unclear that comes up right away with Mr. Miller and if needed, the parents, office, and teachers. We are all working together to ensure the best care for our children and students on campus.

order, and then dismiss them to wash their hands and tuck in their shirts. •  1st/2nd Grade: Must use the restroom, wash their hands, and tuck in

their shirts. •  3rd/4th Grade: Must wash their hands, wipe their face, & tuck in their
