You

Congratulations

Page 3: Greeting Card Designer1

To congratulate others and help them remember special times in their lives.

Gives off the emotionof the occasion. Shows

that others remember them during this special time.

Could get them in the holiday spirit.

Page 4: Greeting Card Designer1

Must have

a lot of

creativity. Artistic ability(may be most important).

Has to know how to reach other’s emotions through the cards.

A knowledge in computers could come in handy, if needed to scan pictures/type greetings.

Gifted writing ability.

I don’t believe that right now I could do a great job in this career.

This is because; having the artistic ability that I have, is not one that would meet the standards of a card designer.

If I were to have more experience in art, this could be a career that I may be successful in.

Salaries differ significantly.Depending on different levels of experience.

1. Usually, card makers work from home; buying their own materials to make cards (paper, glitter, etc.).

2. Stores buy specific cards to hold in their stock.

3. The creators are paid for the amount of each card chosen to be put in stock.

4. The money that comes from each card bought by a store is divided.

5. A reasonable amount of money is distributed between the creator, the writer, the editor and then divided among the rest of the workers for a regular paycheck.

Page 7: Greeting Card Designer1

The differences between the two salaries are…

Card makers don’t necessarily get the same paycheck always.

They have to work

hard to create a

good card that

you’ll want to buy;

this is one of the

few steps it takes

for them to make

money.

The overall amount of money made by the creator mainly depends on the number of cards bought in by other stores.

Page 8: Greeting Card Designer1

I would rather make a living doing something that I enjoy and make a smaller salary Make a large salary doing something that I didn’t enjoy.

Not enjoying what you do would not be worth the time and effort you put into the work.

o Needs to be able to put emotion into the words when writing for different occasions.

o Needs to think about if everyone will be interested in the card.

o Needs to be able to relate well to every occasion.

o Has to be able to express the emotion that they’re trying to give off.

o Needs to ask themselves:“Will this appeal to others?”“Will it stand out?”“Is this giving off the emotion I’m trying to provide to my viewers?”

Doesn’t necessarily need a background in writing, but having strong writing skills is always an advantage when looking for a job as a greeting card writer.

Art skills are extremely important because card makers usually createtheir own cards by drawing or usingposed photographs, depending on the occasion.

An art degree will allow you to be a professional card designer.

Page 11: Greeting Card Designer1

Many people send out

e-cards instead of taking the

time to go buy another card

because now computers are so

convenient. Getting personal cards is not as much of a priority as it used to be.

The percent is going down because of all of

the new technology.

Page 12: Greeting Card Designer1

The artistry of the job would be the most difficult of all for me.This is because drawing a perfect picture to demonstrate what you are trying to relay to others could be stressful and a challenge.

The actual writing part of the card would be The most fun part in my opinion.I like writing overall so writing phrases to try to explain the feel of an occasion would be a funpart of this job.

Page 13: Greeting Card Designer1

I would not be interested in pursuing this career for many reasons.

This job does not really appeal to mebecause I am not too interested in art.

I would not have the patience to create the perfect card. Having the salary being the

way it is, it would be too risky, in my opinion, to take up a career like this.
