Good GRE Scores - A GRE Test taker's GRE ExperienceHi all,
I took gre general test 3 days back.
My gre score is 1560. I am happy that this is a good GRE score.
Split up Verbal Section GRE Score- 760
Quans Section GRE Score - 800
Expecting 5.5 or 6.0 in my essays.
This is my second attempt. Mine was a average gre score in my first attempt. In my first
attempt my gre scores was 1210. Q - 720 V - 490. I was completely demotivated after
seeing my average gre scores. I am working as a Senior System Analyst in Bangalore. I
have 6 Yrs of experience. I'm an electronics and communication engg. I always wanted to
pursue MS in a top school.
GRE tests three things:
1. Your basic intelligence (in Quanti and Reading Comprehension)
2. Your speed of responding (that's why the time limit is kept...and so, many of you who
are practicing for the GRE must be finding difficult)
3. How well you perform under pressure? And also I used Barrons and Kaplan tests and
bigbook. All these material are no longer useful as ets had tremendously increased the
difficulty level of questions especially the quans and the reading comprehension
questions.
If you are pretty clear in the above things then a good GRE score is not that difficult.
First and foremost suggestion - Don't get tensed up. Remain cool and calm.
Sometimes the only difference between a good score and a bad score is your mental
strength. Just chill. No worries, no tension. Talk to yourself. Tell yourself that you can do
it. If you win over your tension, then GRE is a piece of cake leading to a good GRE score.
Second thing - practice is the key to success. Give as many practice tests as possible.
Grebible and Powerprep are a must. You can also try out Arco.
Practice tests and the CAT tests in grebible are excellent. The difficulty level is very very
high in grebible. That's the reason why I was able to score much in the verbal and in the
quans.
If you go without giving practice tests, that too practice tests with difficulty high level of
questions. Your chances of good GRE Scores are negligible. You will end up with a
average GRE score
The main advantage for me was that I got 4 analogies and 2 sentence completion
questions straight from grebible practice tests. These questions were within my fist 10
questions. That boosted my gre score. Thank god else I would have been sitting with
computers and doing silly things in my office.
Softwares used:
Powerprep Grebible Barrons Arco
PowerPrep gives you the exact GRE Score which you will be your GRE Score plus or
minus 10 - 20. Your Gre scores from power prep will be an exact replica of your actual
GRE score.
I had no time to study for gre as my work is very hard. I used to come home only at 11 or
12 or even 2 in the night. But it was a passion for me to study MS. Initially it was very
tough for me to find time for me to prepare for gre. I prepared very slowly for gre.
Started with Barron's wordlist. After completing them when I took a diagnostic test, I was
shocked at the results. Then one of my friend suggested Gre Vocabulary Bible from
grebible. The software was cool.
Some General Tips:
1. Complete the math review in barron's with the exercises and also the one given by
ETS (ftp://ftp.ets.org/pub/gre/Math2.pdf)
2. Do math exercises in grebible. I found grebible math to be toughest of all.
3. On the day of test, free yourself from driving to the test center.
Take an auto or better still ask someone to drop you.
My GRE scores on practice tests in the order I took, if it helps anyone:
PowerPrep1 GRE Score - Q - 740, V - 680
Princeton 1 GRE Score - Q - 780, V - 460
GreBible1 GRE Score - Q - 710, V-600
Princeton 2 GRE Score - Q - 770,
GreBible2 GRE Score - Q - 620, V-580
GreBible3 GRE Score - Q - 740, V-580
GreBible4 GRE Score - Q - 710, V-630
GreBible5 GRE Score - Q - 770, V-700
GreBible6 GRE Score - Q - 800, V-610
GreBible7 GRE Score - Q - 800, V-660
GreBible8 GRE Score - Q - 740, V-700
GreBible9 GRE Score - Q - 770, V-680
GreBible10 GRE Score - Q - 740, V-720
PowerPrep2 GRE Score - Q - 740, V - 680
As you guys can clearly see. Powerprep GRE score exactly reflects the actual gre scores

1. GRE 1460 second time took test yesterday my experience....
Hello guys ,Before 6 months i used to be like u .. browsing anyone that has posted their experience in any forum and reading their own experience ..My story starts from this year March ... i am in my graduation last month .. My brother wrote GRE last year March and got 1280 .. my mother persuaded me to write gre that
month March .. so i registered for the GRE that month 29th ... Its my last month of graduation so i had some work with project and etc , etc ..... joined GREEdge.com inspired by its website ..... i thought it will give me tips and shortcuts how to score verbal easier ... My brother warned me not to join and study on my own and do lots of practice.... I ignored my brother , that counselor in website told me to study words every day and he told me to do BIgbook .. i just studied the words up to last day and not had practiced 10 Tests also ,, Finally adding to the disaster i got my project internal 2 days before my exam so i m busy in it.. went to hyd before day.....I hadn't practiced Maths at all .. I thought by doing few practice tests that maths is easy and i can get 800 in it without any extra effort bcoz my fav subject is maths from childhoodFinally on the exam day wrote the exam ... Dont know many of the words in verbal final score 1090 ( verbal 360 quant 730) disappointed with maths mainly (not with verbal as i hadnt studied much) .. Then my brother told me Study 3000 in Barroons u will get confidence and practice Kaplan .. Manu told me to do NOVA for MathsMany told me dont write another time .. u can get good seat in a college as u had strong academic.. but i know inside that i can achieve more ..SoCame to bangalore last month stayed with my brother .. studied for one month like anything did NOVA , Kaplan .. wrote exam today ...got 1460(quant 790 verbal 670)surprised at my score myself bcoz i never thought i can achieve 1460 i just thought that score is for people who study for one year continuously..
Final Tips for Test takers who want to score more and who know that they can score more...
First come to verbal .. All our Indians feel that it is difficult and it is difficult to crack it. .It will be not like that if u follow below steps..
Barrons 3000 words there is no replacement for it...when u study those words dont let anything disturb u .. Study daily .. If u didnt study the words for one day also .. there is a great chance for u to forget and ur effort up to that time will be wasted.. Take it like a mission .. Study the words at ur own style rather than joining anything ..start studying the words slowly, if u do it every day u will notice that the number of words u are studying are getting increased.. never take a day break while studying words.. Dont study like hell.. for 20 hrs ,16 hrs .. have ur daily rest .. no one has to tell u.. u know when u are getting weak and ur mind is not working .. take rest for few hrs at that time... and then again start studying .. when u are getting 500 in verbal in practice tests in Kaplan and Powerprep ..then u can put the date for Gre .. make it 30 days .. revise the words daily ..Kaplan is a beauty to do revision .. do the 6 verbal exercises.. and 3 tests.. do powerprep more number of times.. save a test for last few days.....
Nothing is better than self prep according to me .. u will definitely get confidence after studying words( i got it .. after studying words u will do most of antonyms right ) i got all antonyms from words i studied.. Dont think u cant do RCs .. if u keep ur mind pleasant RCs are a cake walk ....Practice Rcs from bigbook .. If u do Bigbook u will get additional advantage dudes ..
For quant
People who excel in Maths and people who do poorly in Quant must do NOVAS .. its a beauty yaar... practice Kaplan maths .... i did Time Maths material all those problems are
difficult for me so took time...
When ur gre exam in only one month far away .. Its better to plugoff internet .. It will not help u instead it will destroy ur peacefulness and mind .. I disconnected my internet bcoz i am obsessed with it and ruined my first exam with internet...
guys i want to tell abt quant..
In my first exam i know i screwed up in statistics ..for the second exam also i havent prepared up to the last day .. then i saw one guys experience .. he said to do Math Review in Powerprep Software..
i completed it..
For my surprise i saw 6-7 questions on mean and median .. do MATH review in PowerPrep its enough for statistics.. i didnt got any questions from probability and combinations .. for last question in quant i got only 3 seconds left.. i dont know which option i answered for that..

What's a good GRE score, anyway?Average GRE Scores for Top Public UniversitiesAverage GRE Scores by Major
First, a caveat: almost every one of the top private universities in the country expressly state on their graduate admissions website that there are no minimum GRE scores required for admissions into their graduate programs. So breathe a little easier, okay?
However, some of these top private universities also state that the average GRE scores of their incoming students reflect the average GRE scores they are looking for in potential grad students, as well.
So, keep that in mind when you're studying for the GRE. Choose the school you want to get into, and go for the score that most of the admitted students have achieved.
