GRD202: DESIGN FOR PRINT MEDIA

ASSESSMENT 2: PROJECT DESIGN ASSESSMENT AND CRITERIA SHEET

Course Code: GRD202

Course Title: Design for Print Media

Program: Bachelor of Creative Media

Assessment: 2 – Gate fold brochure & Container

Weight: 30%

Due Date: 4.00pm Friday 11 Nov (Week 9)

Purpose

This assessment item is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of prepress. The objective is to provide a smooth workflow between designer and the printing industry. Knowledge of different product specifications and creating accurate and correct prepress is an essential requirement for successful duplication.

Description

You are required to create 2 complimentary designs using Indesign with correct prepress for a client using only 2 PANTONE colours. Both designs will be created to promote the same product for the same company. You may choose the PANTONE colours – however one colour should be either black or dark to accommodate the text. Think very carefully about your choice. You must consider the ‘overprint’ of the colours you choose, as some pantone colours may give unexpected results when ‘overprinted’. You will create:

1. An effective design for a double-sided gate-fold brochure

2. An effective design for a container or box

3. A final mock-up of each of these designs

All visual elements and bodycopy are to be sourced by YOU. Photographs, bodycopy and dielines/nets do not need to be original but will need to be referenced. The layout, design and graphical elements (including logo design) must ALL be original.

Before starting this project – research other brochures and containers on the market. Attention to detail is a vital requirement to be a successful designer – remember our objective is to be professional!

Your designs must be constructed in Adobe Indesign. Photoshop and Illustrator elements can be included but these elements must not constitute the layout of your design.

An important aspect of this assessment is to provide the correct prepress for hardcopy output. Think carefully about ‘bleeds’ ‘trims’ ‘registration’ etc.
