Grandpa’s Notebook Worksheet

www.iankenworthy.com

As usual, after a hard day at the beach, Grandpa finds himself

sitting at his desk with his notebook beside him. He has

discovered three new creatures today and they are now living

in fish tanks in the living room. After some thought he had

named them too. The Sub-o-saur, the Long-tailed Swamp Fish

and the Septafin. He scratches his head. That means he has

three more creatures to feed tonight. He realises he hasn’t got

time to feed them and the other creatures. Not to mention the

lobster living in the toilet.

“Glob, will you feed my creatures please? I’m very busy,” he

asked his little friend. “Make sure you feed the right creature

the correct food. The sub-o-saur eats from the blue bucket, The

septafin from the red bucket and the long-tailed swamp fisg

eats anything that’s left.”

“How do I know which is which?” Glob asked.

“I’ve written it here,” Grandpa said.

“But I can’t read,” Glob reminded him.

“Oh, yes. I’d forgotten. What are we going to do?”

“Maybe if you draw them I’ll be able to tell which is which,”

Glob suggested.

“Excellent idea!” Grandpa cried, snatching up his pencil.

Your task is to read the descriptions, then draw the creatures

that Grandpa has studied! They need to look as close to the

description as you can or Glob will never tell them apart!

Sub-o-saur

I found this living right at the bottom of

Scribbs’ Lagoon. A large blobby body. Its neck

is long enough to reach out of the water. It

doesn’t have legs it has four large flippers. Had

to adjust my glasses to see it because it was

the same colour as the swampy water. Food

wise it seems to favour either or slurping up

damp weeds. Most of its life must be spent

under the water as I haven’t seen it before.

Long-tailed Swamp Fish

Found living in the water at the edge of the

marshes. It reminds me of an oversized goldfish

only slightly more colourful. Quite a long tail really.

Its two boggly eyes mean it is hard to tell which

way it is looking. Doesn’t seem very happy. It has an

unhappy mouth, two odd ears and stripes on its side.

Septafin

Hmm, a very strange creature

indeed. This reminds me of a

bat. And a walrus. It’s body is

like that of a walrus, with the

features of a bat. Its wings are

used to paddle the water. You

can’t miss it. On its back are

seven fins.
