The Social Development Fund [SDF] is the main funding instrument to build social cohesion in a neighbourhood.

A Community Action Plan (a vision for community develop-ment) is co-produced between the community leadership, the public sector, and VPUU NPC Specfic interventions of the Action Plan are identified which the local community, through individuals, groups or organisations, can imple-ment to increase social cohesion.

One of the projects that support social cohesion in Mon-wabisi Park and that has been supported by the SDF is the Morning starts. This soccer group was established in 2013 by Phumlani Mdlamhlaba. They started with a senior team, and in 2014 juniors were added. The group now has a mem-bership of 85 players.

Another soccer team supported by the SDF is the Real Future, which was established in 2008 under the leadership of Khayalethu Quanda who started with one under-12 team. The club has grown so tremendously that they have a mem-bership of 65 people now.
