RECORDERS AT THE OPERA HOUSE

Last Tuesday, the recorder ensemble made their way to the Sydney. After months of practice and rehearsal, the

ensemble joined with over 700 other NSW school students and performed in the Festival of Instrumental Music

at the Sydney Opera House. Zoe White did an exceptional job as soloist on the night in the item Simple Gifts. All

students played extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts. Well done!

My favourite part of the day was….

Charli: playing at the Opera House

Mia: performing Three Brothers and Simple Gifts

Marli: Performing Bluz for Suz and Three Brothers

Nic: the performance, especially Bluz for Suz

Ashlee: when we performed Bluz for Suz

Jess – Performing Three Brothers

Ebony – Seeing the other types of recorders and watching the students play them all

Zac – performing at the Opera House

Ella – performing in front of everyone at the

Opera House

Luisa – playing in front of everyone

Zoe – performing the solo in Simple Gifts

Ryleigh – performing and meeting other students

Peityn – playing Bluz for Suz

Nikita – playing recorder at the Opera House

Ruby – playing the recorder in Three

Brothers

BOOK WEEK IS COMING!

We will celebrate Book Week on Thursday, August 29th with two performances, a book fair and our

much-loved book character parade.

This year, the parade will take place at 10.45am and parents are invited to stay afterwards to browse

and buy from the Book Fair and share a picnic lunch with their child/ren.

Notes have gone home regarding the performance.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge finishes in less than a month! Infants students will have their records

updated and completed at school, whilst Primary students are expected to complete theirs at home.

The Stage 2 teachers have been assisting their classes in attempting the challenge, but the students will

need to obtain a record of what they have already read from their teachers in order to complete it. The

expectation is that Infants students will read 30 books and Primary students will read 20.

Reading Tip:

Get comfortable! – When sharing a book with your child, snuggle up somewhere warm and cosy,

whether it’s in bed, on a beanbag or on the sofa. Make sure your child has somewhere comfy to read

on their own too.

Become an Ethics Teacher or Coordinator at Goulburn West Public School

Primary Ethics provides the opportunity for NSW public primary school students who don’t attend scripture

classes (SRE) to participate in philosophical ethics classes.

Many students have expressed an interest in attending classes. Now we

need volunteers.

If you have an interest in delivering ethics classes we can support you with training,

teaching materials and behaviour management in the classroom.

Go online to check it out https://primaryethics.com.au/

The classes teach children how to think critically, consider ethical issues, and respond more thoughtfully to

many of the problems and issues they will face in their lives.

If you’d like to be involved but are unavailable during school hours, you might consider becoming a program

coordinator at the school. The ethics coordinators recruit teachers, and communicate with the school.

For more information, please contact: Sherryl Broderick on 0467340045

Lowes is holding a 20% off every-

thing sale including school wear on

Thursday 8 August when you use

your Lowes card. (See attached

Goulburn West will be running a Pokemon Club for students.

The club is for students interested in playing the Pokemon card game. There will be mentors for those new to the game.

They meet during recess time on Wednesday in the library.

NO cards are to be brought in from home.

Due to some very generous donations from , and some of our Goulburn West families, the school has several decks of cards that the

club will play with.

If you have any questions about the club please contact Mrs Gooch.
