God and Man
Gillian Rakowski
Distance upon distance upon distance,Further than man could ever hope to travel..... And beyond.Time upon time upon time,Longer than man could possibly imagine..... And beyond.Power, wisdom, authority, strength,Able to work inconceivable deeds..... With a word.Beauty, splendour, radiance, worth,Shedding your glory on all you have made..... By your love.
How dare we look upon your face?Or ever approach your throne? In the sight of such perfectionWe are dazed and, trembling, bow the knee. How could we ever comprehendA God who put the stars in space?Whose thoughts can move a mountain,Yet who numbers all our days.
But you knew:You knew how small and insignificant we felt. You saw the struggles as we looked into the gulf. You heard our cries as we tried to understandAnd you stooped to take us by the hand.
The king of all, and yet you cameTo share as man, to feel our pain,To know what lowliness was like,To walk the path of human-kind.
God ..... and Man,Your majesty sublimeReached down and laid a pathwayTo bridge the great divide.
And having stooped, you drew us closeAnd lifted us to you,Raising our heads above this earthTo bring eternity in view.
Such love, such great compassionFrom our Father’s loving hand!We will live in endless wonderThat our God should come as Man.
