Dear parents, Welcome to the new school term. Thank you to all parents for assisting to ensure all of our students are in school uniform. As we begin to enter the colder months, sometimes some of the students do begin to wear non-uniform tops. Just a reminder to all parents that the uniform shop has a great supply of tops in all sizes. It is often the older students who will attempt to wear the ‘fashionable’ tops, but these students could quite easily purchase plain red tops from outside school sources. As always, a reminder to parents that if you are experiencing financial difficulties and putting your child in uniform is a cost factor we invite you to phone or call personally at the office and we will do what we can to assist. We would like to welcome a number of new students and families to the school. We also welcome Miss Herbert who is joining us as a permanent member of staff as a result of her success through the merit selection process last term. Miss Hoskins has also been permanently appointed to our school through the merit selection process. Congratulations to both teachers and thank you to Mrs Estall and Ms Vorobieff who were the P & C representatives on the selection panels. A number of visiting teachers from universities have chosen our school as one where they would like to undertake their practicum experiences – we hope they learn a lot and that they will have fond memories of GPS. News is in that Miss Warrington who is our School Admin. Manager (SAM) is getting much better following some hospital time. We wish her well, thank her ‘apprentice’ Miss Campbell for her work as SAM (Relieving) and look forward to her return to GPS. Last Term’s Disco was a big success. The students always enjoy their discos but for this one we went HEALTHY! The student response to the inclusion of fruit and water in preference to chips and juice was overwhelmingly favourable with many students requesting second cups of fruit. This is a big success for the school’s healthy eating practices and a real pat-on-the-back to the students for embracing the healthy eating routine. Well done also to all of the teachers who prepared the fruit on the afternoon. Have a good week, Yours faithfully, Doug Meaney Principal Glendenning Public School Safe, Respectful Learners Term 2 Week 1 Thursday , April 28 2016 135 Armitage Drive, Glendenning. Dear parents,

Welcome to the new school term.

Have a good week,

Yours faithfully,

Years 2 - 6 Cross Country

The Years 2-6 Cross Country will be held on Tuesday 3 May, 2016 (Term 2 Week 2) from 9.15 – 11.30 am.

It will be held at Glendenning Reserve - Golding Drive, with students walking to and from school with their class. Students may wear their sports uniform or house colours, and appropriate footwear. It is recommended that students bring a hat, drink bottle, sunscreen, ‘Crunch and Sip’ food and something to sit on.

All students are expected to attend the carnival and are encouraged to take part in events and support their house teams. Students will be awarded house points for participation in races. Parents are invited to attend to watch and cheer. Parents are welcome back to school to have a picnic with their children from 11.30 am – 12.10 pm.

The K-2 Cross Country Carnival will be held at school after lunch from 12.10 – 1.40 pm on the back playground.

Peer Support Update Week 1 – Valuing Each Other Our first Peer Support session enables the children to get to know everyone in their group, agreeing on how they will work together and interact cooperatively with others. They will also begin to think about what is a value and something they value in themselves. We recommend you talk to your children about Peer Support every week, as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session. Miss Milledge Peer Support Coordinator

REMINDERS

PAYMENTS When sending payments to school please ensure the CORRECT AMOUNT of money is enclosed in a separate envelope for each activity. PLEASE PUT ONLY ONE ACTIVITY IN EACH ENVELOPE. (If more than one activity is placed in an envelope your child may miss out on participating). Clearly mark each envelope with:

• your child’s full name • your child’s class • name of activity

and please put the permission note inside the envelope. A separate permission note is required for each child in the family. Please do not fold or staple banknotes. Please make payments before the due date as paying late will result in your child missing an activity. All money is to be deposited in the payment slot in the door at the Admin Office.
