Giving reasons using “you should..” “so” and
“because”
Suggestions 2 alternative
lesson
How to play
• There are two card sets per group. Smaller cards provide an item. Large cards propose a situation. These should be face down on the table.
• To begin a round, turn over a large card. This is the situation for the round.
• Each student then takes an item card.• One by one, the students turn over their item card. They
then must justify needing the item during the situation by providing a reason. For example: “You should ride a bicycle when Godzilla attacks so you can escape quickly. Most matchups will be nonsensical. Encourage zany reasoning.
• If other players think the justification is reasonable, the player keeps the card and gains a point. If the other players think it is not reasonable, the card is returned to the pile and reshuffled.
• When all students have completed their turn, a new round is begun, with a new situation card.
• Play style is similar to “Apples to Apples,” in that players must give reasons for unusual connections.
